The Recroder is much harder to find though so may be worth the starting price.
I don’t have anything that needs recroding tho… -

Pah. It’s a recroder, if it was a recorder I’d have snuck a cheeky £9m bid in.

Ah yes, that current new fad of flatwound strings. it'll soon blow over 😄
It’ll be like that recent fretless fad. -

At nearly £50 a set I need to be fairly certain they offer me something I can’t get from Rounds
Honestly if you don’t like them you’ll get a good chunk of that back second hand…- 1

Buy some.
Stick them on your P-bass.
Play them for a week or so, and you'll form an opinion. If you like them and prefer them, they will last a good 10 years. If you don't like them, take them off, and sell them on and you'll get a good chunk of your money back.
Simples.

(And now I'm tempted to get an Embassy and relic it...)

Yeah it's just me being fussy, and the photos make it look worse.
If I'd refinished it I'd be annoyed with myself for letting those bits go, but you can't expect that attention to detail in a cheap, mass produced bass.
I doubt exchanging it for another would improve things as there'd be other bits wrong probably.
I know I don't sound it, but I'm really happy with it. Most folks would never notice.
I'm also a fussy sod. I've gotten over it by developing a love of relics. At first, I found them abhorrent, but now I really do like a nicely worn bass.
My therapy came in the form of building a Telecaster for a friend. They wanted a relic. I spend a good chunk of time painting it (proper nitro spray) so the finish was perfect (or as close as I could get) The relic process started ceremonially by dropping a screwdriver onto it from 6ft up. After that it was all huge fun.
Weird thing was I preferred it after the relic process so I did a few basses of my own. Nowadays I actually really like relics, and love the process of creating them.

I love my Helix - admittedly I don't take it to my big band gig, but for everything else it is fantastic.
Great sounds that can be easily tweaked for the room / bass / style
Mine is the rack helix and since the beginning of lockdown it has become the heart of my home studio - it is my interface and my soundcard for normal PC use. It's just dead easy to use.
I've been playing for 34 years and I genuinely think it is the best single bit of equipment I've ever had.
I wholeheartedly agree. I have the Floor and it gets used pretty much every day - for practise, as an audio interface, for trying new stuff out.. it gets used for rehearsals, gigs, jams, you name it. It plays well in front of an amp and direct out to an FRFR.
I would also say it's the most used bit of kit I've ever bought.

It might all end in tiers if you do 🥲😁
Mrs B is very accommodating of my tier system.
So much so that she uses it for:
- My chores
- My jobs in the garden
- My cooking duties
- My shopping priorities when she's on the mooch for new stuff

Yep - that's a corker.
I do like a nice 51P Style bass and that certainly looks the part. For lightweight I went the opposite and did a semi-hollow which came out at about 7.5 lbs

yep! But when we’re talking 4/5k the planning for the wallet will need to be there. I had a similar feeling for my charcoal limelight P (jazz neck) and even my technician told me it’s a peach worth keeping, so glad I pulled the overdraft there lol
I know eh? If I was to put the dough out on a 4/5k£ bass it’d be like a special situation, my studio bass or heirloom bass. From that angle, I’d not risk it and go for a classic like Fender CS. Overpriced or not, it’d always hold out value and attend to the classic roots of bass that are more atemporal than a cool headless active with fan frets (as cool as those could be…!)I got my CS Jazz quite recently and certainly didn't pay that sort of amount for it! I reckon if you are savvy and look carefully you could get a really nice CS Precision for half that...

Is there any such thing, a few times I think I’ve found the one, then I see something else 😁
No, no there absolutely isn't at all.
However, keeping an eye out for "the one" usually results in the ownership (brief or longer term) of a large quantity of "candidates"
My Shuker is the closest I've come to "the one" and that required the neck to catastrophically explode and require 12 months of fixing for it to get elevated to the dizzy heights of "closest to the one I've ever had"

Thanks for the encouragement ha! Tbh I doubt I can find this same bass in some years when I'm ready to gift myself something of this level, BUT I may have to ask a fender authorised dealer about a CS catalog and start to play around / plan that idea....
Sometimes you just have to keep an eye out for "the one" I reckon...

Oooh! I love these Tiers @Bridgehouse - I'll try that with my wife next mind you she's very supportive and a musician herself so 'she gets it'... but to me the golden rule is making sure that anything else that is not bass/gear is taken care of. Admittedly more than once (still dragging some overdraft) I've made sacrifices on my normal day to day to go for a particular bass.....
... speaking of Tier 1 - would love to have this at some point, never owned a CS and a P bass with a jazz neck is the thing for me... I don't think I could get away with it for my 35th coming but maybe my 40th birthday...
The Candy Apple Red is lovely too!
PS: Can't paste most pics as they exceed 57.something KB... Most pictures would? Is there an update I'm missing out on or just me?
I must admit, the neck on my CS Jazz is one of the best I've ever played. Dunno why, dunno how, but it's fabulous. I've played P-basses most of my bass playing but there's something about this Jazz neck. If the neck on that one you linked to is anything like mine then it'd be a keeper!

There's no need for these self flagellation threads, you know...
Too many basses might be 1, but it might also be infinite. Sadly, if you are having to contemplate the fact that you might be approaching too many basses, then you've probably already exceeded the number. If you are content and don't see any need to ask the question, then you're well under it.
I currently have 4, which sort of rest in two tiers. Tier 1:
- 1x Shuker Uberhorn Fretless 4
- 1x Fender CS '62 Jazz
These two are the used/gigged/jammed with usuals. I even have two mono bags for them, two mono straps, blah blah.
Then, I have a pair of 51 shape Precisions, both home assembled from body and neck blanks.
- 1x Surf Green with a really whacky Oil City prototype Single Coil Ricky style 51P shape in it
- 1x Natural semi-hollow with an oddball split coil 51P shape in it
And I'm about to build a Medium Scale Jazz to add to the "Tier 2 home builds"
Certainly no where near enough yet. I might start up a Tier 3 set - which would be cheaper more oddball basses.. and Tier 1 needs an early 70's Precision to finish it off.

No, my bad (as the coolest kids say).
It's VBT, but I meant with the blend half way between both pickups and just the neck one, at 7.5 if you will.
I'm debating VBT for my Medium Scale Jazz build.
Joking aside, it's a lovely looking bass.

Right here we go then.
Firstly you have to understand that I can be too fussy for mystery own good. It comes from a being a panel beater with a bit of pride, and badly sanded edges and misaligned parts leap out at me.
Which led to my first disappointment. It came out the bag headstock first and the paint edge around the 'open book' shape isn't the best. There's also a couple of edges which aren't right, but to be fair this is a colour that will emphasise any imperfections, and it's only a £350 bass.
That said, it does look lovely, I really like the colour and the body hardware looks huge, really chunky, which I like.
The actual paint finish is perfectly acceptable, not amazing but as good as more expensive basses.
I've only plugged it into a small amp so far but it sounds great, I really quite like the both pickups on full, slightly scooped tone it has. But the neck pickup full, bridge about halfway is great.
Action is very high for my liking but that all adjustable.
The frets are very thin which I also like.
More to come when I've spent some time with it, but overall a very nice bass for very little money.
Without flash.
With flash.
Bad edges.
Action.
Nice fretboard wood.
Chunky hardware.
Retro knobs
Lovely colour.
Is that it??😃

^ yeah, definitely took that out the box too soon after it was brought in from the cold.
I reckon the headstock will have snapped off by the morning and all the sparkly paint fallen off….
