M'mmm, dunno about the speaker. I was having too much fun blasting away in front of it to go poking round the back.

IIRC they did an utterly cracking bass amp in the late 80s that looked like an oversize Bandit with a big 15” driver in it.

Peavey: the king of bargain amp brands. Had a bang on a mark one Bandit a few years ago. Storming little amp.

Yep - specially if it was one with a Scorpion speaker in.

Frank would love it too as it had a proper smorgasbord of connections round the back

Me too, it was these or a green Carlsbro back in the punk days.

Oh man those green Carlsbro amps.

Mate of mine had one and the grille on the front used to rattle but only when he played an A fretted as 5th fret on the E string. Open A? no rattle.

Well, the HH bass combo my pal Ricky brought home (and which subsequently went out the window) was the one I sold him (hee-hee) and I can tell you it was a nightmare to transport, weighed a ton and it wasn't really very loud for all its behemoth dimensions so he took it off my hands and the rest is history.

Good for cracking pavement slabs though.

I suspect there’s a very liberal dose of sentimentality in my viewpoint.

Just like I will always have a soft spot for Peavey Bandits.

    Got his priorities straight, then.

I've always been lucky in this respect. The Missus, while supportive, evinces scant interest in the minutiae of my musical odyssey. The main thing is that she doesn't jib at me spending money on stuff. 'If that's what you want,' she says.

Unlike a friend of mine; about thirty years ago he came home with one of those huge old HH 1x15 bass combos the size of a washing machine. His GF got hammered one night and pushed the combo out of a second storey window into the street.

HH VS Bass Combo: Death from above

I loved those old HH combos.

    No idea why…

Ah ok, I'm looking at getting  the J or the  retro and I'm undecided at the moment which one.

J-Tone gives you either volume/volume or volume/blend as a single stack, bass and treble as a stack and then a tone which works in active and passive. IMHO this is a more flexible arrangement if you think you’ll be using it in passive as much as active

  7. I joined a band who were having a real torrid time with their "lead" guitarist.

Too loud, too centred on his "solos" and too concerned by how he sounded and really didn't care about anyone else or their enjoyment of the situation. One rehearsal the conversation was had. He was told in no uncertain terms that he was just too loud.

Sadly he wouldn't have any of it, so we decided to take more drastic action. It went something along the lines of:

[End of song being rehearsed. Guitarist still about 15395db too loud]

Guitarist: Right, I'm off out for a tab

    [Door closes]

    Everyone else: Go!

[Fuse extracted from amp plug and from pedalboard power supply amp and replaced with pre-determined duds]

    [Guitarist returns]

Guitarist: Er... I have no power. What's going on?

Lead Singer: Dunno mate, my amp is fine and the PA is on...?

Me: Bass amp on over here mate..

[Guitarist swaps plug sockets, extension lead etc..]

    Guitarist: WTAF??

Keys Player: I reckon you've blown that amp mate - told you it was too loud..

    Guitarist: Blown it? Really?

Lead Singer: Yeah. I did hear a popping noise when you were out.

Me: And a bit of a crackle...

Guitarist: Oh poop. This is my dad's amp as well..

[Guitarist packs up in a hurry and leaves]

    We didn't see him again.....

IME for the last 20 years or so, whenever there’s been a discussion about flats,

someone has always piped up to say they’re a fad 😄

I remember one particular evening, down the Dog and Duck with my old mate Jimbo Jamerson. He had his usual pint of mild on the go with a pack of Players Navy Cut and he was harping on about the virtues of these new fangled "flat wound" strings he'd put on his beat up old Bass.

Anyway, me and the lads had a good old laugh about it and told him to get real and get some proper Rotosounds on there and that they'd never catch on.

I purchased a fretless stingray that came with TI flats, hated them,
    feel, tension, tone.
Changed to round wounds much more comfortable.

I always found TI's to be pretty difficult to get along with too.

I use Chromes mostly - more tension, better feel, brighter and more playable...

I used to relic my Doc Martins back in the grunge days. I hated that shiny new boot look so tied them to the rear bumper of my Mini by their laces and drove round for a bit. Perfect!

Would this work on an Embassy?

    I don’t see why not….

My backside being well and truly kicked, I'm off to play my Embassy :D

Give it a drag round the garden first  for a bit of authentic relic work as well!
