1. I have a Peavey Spectrum Bass unit - it is just presets and some of them are close to a bass guitar. (It's a MIDI 19" rack unit.)
2. There are some FB pages.
3. I have a Minitaur and it does what it does; I'm planning to get a KMI 12 Step to play it, as I can't select things with my current Ketron pedals. I don't want a computer in the loop, though. I've also got a Roland SH-32 and it is a pretty awesome piece of kit.
4.
Does it sound OK unplugged?
Yep - unplugged will tell you its essential character.
5. I once had a guitar where the truss rod nut came loose and rattled.
6.
I've been playing fretless for the last 3 months, unlined with side dots on the fretboard. After some weeks struggling with intonation it is somehow happening, it seems like my fingertips find the right spot more easily these days, but still there are days I can't play a note right. I'll just continue on playing it and I know my intonation will improve slowly. It has been very helpful to use a clip tuner in the process of playing it and learning how to intonate properly. But it is a long journey, I guess. Fretless is a different instrument altogether for me, I had to change and improve my technique to play it, well at least I am trying . I will have my first gig with a new band playing fretless on june 30th. Old time Rock'n'roll, swing... Right now I am worried about not being able to see the side dots in my fretboard if the stage is too dark. These are abalone dots, not really white dots. Any cheap trick to make your dots shine a bit more in the dark that doesn't involve getting leds installed? Not looking for miracles, but I know a bass player who used nail polish to make the dots shine on stage a bit more.
I've sometimes thought about putting little raised dots (like Braille) on the neck, so that you can feel where you are with your thumb.
7.
Well, that is never going to catch on!
Nothing to fret about, though.
8. If you put a cover on the bridge of a P- or J- bass, then you can hide the sponge under there. (Originally, Rickenbackers had a sliding bridge cover with a mute pad.)
9. Just put a sponge under the strings. Or buy a Ric. :-)
10.
I've posted these before The one on the left I bought like that: Warmoth body, John East pre-amp, Badass bridge, Status Graphite neck, 3 Schallers and a Hipshot D-tuner/eXtender, Schaller straplocks. The one on the right I made up from parts: Squier body, Mighty Mite fretless neck, Shadow pickup, my wiring assembly (CTS pots, Sprague cap & Switchcraft socket), 3 Wilkinson & a Hipshot D-tuner/eXtender, Schaller straplocks. (I have a custom "Prowla" logo transfer for the headstock, when I get around to it.) The one on the left has a fretless sibling too: Warmoth Body, Status Graphite neck, 4 Schallers, EMG pickups. I don't have a picture of it just now.
And the green fretless...
11. I've got a couple of Status basses and the action is low. Status strings also seem to have less tension than other brands.
12. Hmmm, it's a hour's drive for me.
13. I've been thinking of going , but I'd be setting off from Berks at lunchtime, so it might be too late in the day.
14. I like the fret lines - quite subtle.
15.
I had a Hohner fretless with Select pups and Ebanol board back in the 80s - one of the few basses I do NOT regret selling. Couldn't own another....
I had one of those; the main thing was that it was black and had a red strap, so it matched the outfits our band wore for the 2nd set.

UM BONGO

I kindof like the Bongo - it shouldn't look good, but somehow it does.

UM BONGO
According to recent studies (despite many years of contrary reports) they do not in fact, drink it in the Congo.
They did whilst they were making the advert. Or at least, so they say.
18. Status do graphite necks - here's a fretless one I've got on a Warmoth body.
19. I've got two fretless basses: one lined and one unlined; I prefer the unlined one, because it feels less restrictive.
20. Just a further update - I did buy the fretless too... I think I prefer the fretted one, so am thinking of swapping the neck on this one for a fretted, or maybe just selling the bass so I can move on to my next thing.
21. I think that the UK importer of Rockinbetters was/is a company called "Tokai", but it's not the Japanese company who make guitars and so can be confusing. As for those Rockinbetters and other Chickenbackers, I really don't like them, not one bit. I respect Rickenbacker for protecting their brand; why can't companies show a bit of originality and make their own designs? That said, I've got a Matsumoku Ric copy and it is a quite nice bass; I got it incomplete in bits for a bit of fun and just need to do the TRC for it to be complete (the fool who had it before stripped of the original brand and replaced it with the "R" word). It sounds pretty damn Ric-like! (Mind you, I've also got two real Rics, so my bonafides are alright.)
Hi - any help much appreciated.
Congratulations for starting the most generic thread ever!
23. I have a 4-string one of those.
24. I keep meaning to do something like that! Sounds like Stu Hamm after a few beers...
25. Well, if the bridge is near the end of the body, then the overall length is the same regardless of how many frets, surely. Me, I've got a Status 5-string, which doesn't seem large. (But it does have 24 frets.)
