Didn't Stewart Copeland write F*** off you c*** on his toms, with a pic of Sting on one and hit them extra harder? :D
Ahhhh, right. I heard Sting wrote the phrase on Copelands kit.

  2. Back to HH amps. Stuart Adamson got some fantastic sounds out of his old HH with Big Country. I had an Orange 120 watt amp back in the day and never got it past half way before the volume started to dislodge masonry. Stonework that is, not the men's club.

  3. Played my mates Overwater recently. What a beautiful instrument in every way. When I have the cash I shall invest in one.

Anyone on here own or played an SWB bass? I like short scale basses and they look nice on the promo pics.

  4. Yes....Close to the Edge. I played my original copy, when it first came out, so much I literally wore it out and had to buy another. I know every beat, every note and every lyric by heart. I bought the CD version when it was released but bought another vinyl copy a couple of years ago. Vinyl still sounds better than the CD on a decent system. If I could only own one album for the rest of my life it would be Close to the Edge, without a doubt.

Because the bridge was adjusted to it's limit and i don't know what i'm doing....the couple i sold it onto got it for £225 so i lost nearly £400 on it and they came down to see before purchasing

What I meant was, most instruments you buy on line come boxed from the manufacturer, so its difficult to blame the shop for poor quality control issues. Perhaps the new buyer had experience and knew he could fix it for nowt. Did you contact Gear4music with a complaint when you got the instrument?

Bought a £600 3/4 Double Bass from Gear4music it was awful arrived with the action so high it was unplayable
I have managed to sell the Bass now but at a £400 loss and obviously I told the new purchasers all the faults but personally i would never recommend or buy from Gear4music again absolute sh*te.

Surely if the action was way out it was a manufacturing problem not the shop? If it just needed adjusting why not do it yourself rather than sell on?

Hmmm? I think you'll find that the expression, 'don't get your panties in a twist' is, when used in context, similar to saying 'don't worry' or 'calm down' and doesn't refer to name-calling in the slightest. You'll remember also that I didn't refer to the aforementioned Mr Gallagher as a knob either.

    Try harder, eh?
Pardon?????

    Try harder at what?

Your opinion is you like Noel, and thats fine with me.

  8. There is no doubt he will find a short scale easier to play with small hands. If you want to give him every encouragement. Its a bit like starting someone off cycling on your old bike. Sure its a bit too big, and the crank length is not right for him, but he will grow into it. For me, not the way to go.

Is it him that wants to play the bass or is it you that would like him to play? If he is sure he wants to give it a good go then a short scale could last him forever if he wants. I have played loads of long scale basses without any problem but I am a little guy with small hands and playing my first short scale was a revelation. I have used short scale for the last 31 years. They are not toys and lose nothing sound wise if you get a decent one.

I like Noel and that clip made me laugh out loud primarily because it's succinct, well timed and delivered with humour.

I don't really get why people resort to name-calling just because his opinion differs to yours. Why should he skirt around in an answer for fear of isolating or upsetting anyone? Some people love sprouts, loads don't. Christ on a bike, what a dull place the world would be if everyone just conformed and everybody liked the same thing.

Don't get your panties in a twist kids.

Pot calling kettle there If I am not mistaken.

I'm not a fan of NG's music in the slightest - but I always enjoy his interviews.

Love him or hate him, at least his says what he thinks, and provokes opinion. Like the previous 2 pages! ;)
Well, I have a big mouth and lots of opinions, and if you provoke me I can spout them. Hopefully, unlike him, I dont just come out with sweeping generalisations to get attention. I prefer it when people have something to say, rather than simply mouthing off. Oh....I just have. Doh.

I'm afraid that I don't particularly like Jazz either (my father spent my childhood trying to push it on me) but I don't think anyone can dismiss a whole genre. I have stuff by everyone from Miles Davis to Tom Scott and whilst I wouldn't say any of it is on heavy rotation, there's usually something for someone. Equally I don't like rap or hip hop but some of the early stuff like Grandmaster Flash is enjoyable enough.

I suspect it's just a bit of Noel banter. Move along people, nothing to see.
Agreed. There are individual songs I like and songs I dont like, genre has nowt to do with it. Except for rap, that just rubbish.

  12. Age is just an excuse for most people to stop doing things. Our keys player is 71 and he is the best musician I have ever played with. I am 65 in March and I play more now than ever before cos I dont have to work for the man anymore. Use it or lose it.

    Ridiculous.

If you are singing by muscle memory, you are requiring everybody and the accompanying instruments to be exactly in tune - the law of averages will mean that this is completely unlikely.

You need to listen with your ears and adjust appropriately to be in tune with those around you.
Thanks for that measured response. Back in the 60s and 70s most semi pro bands had no monitors, and poor PA systems compared to now. There was nothing special about putting out decent vocals without monitors, it was the norm.

I couldn't hear what the Beatles actually played either, could have been terrible.
Watch the new movie mate and you can, you think I am making this up?

^^This just about sums it up for me.

How any of the armchair critics can know what/how little she would have heard on a giant stage in the middle of a noisy square if her monitors were off/not working is beyond me, especially when you have the weight of expectation that she always has in terms of performance. I'm sure the papers will have loved the "diva" meltdown as they saw it, but I only saw someone struggling with really bad sound.

I am not particularly a fanboi of Mariah either, but I can think of how worked up I get when I try to pitch backing harmonies in our band and I can't hear a thing.
Well the Beatles managed when they couldnt even hear there instruments, and had no monitors, but there again, they had talent. Most of the bands I was in during the 60s and 70s had no monitors but we managed to play and produce 3 part harmonies of quality. She is supposed to be a pro singer and entertainer, If she cant overcome a monitor problem without spitting her dummy out she needs to find another career. I am only a harmony vocalist but even I know by the pressure in my throat and ears when I am in tune.
