Love the shape and finish, for once a bass that looks a bit different. I have two basses that I have played for over 10 years without having to re fret so its hardly a first thought for me.

Oh, I dont know. I have been involved in about a dozen start up bands over the last 50 years. Some originals, some covers. You get together with a bunch of mates, or you answer/put an add in the local music shop, or as now on JMB etc. There are always false starts and the occasional time waster but if you cant overcome that you will never get a band off the ground. Most musicians are nice people and easy to get along with, they just want to play gigs the same as me.

The Beatles, but I think it may be a long shot.

I think there first move would be to set up a meeting to discuss the true meaning of the term "Band". That would obviously lead to another discussion as to weather a drummer/beat maker is a musician or must come under another classification.

I have changed brand and gauge of strings many times with no intonation or fret buzz problems. Most fret problems seem to be from side to side on the same fret rather than differing heights of frets. On very low budget basses it may be and issue but that would probably be down to poor quality control rather than specialist fret relief.

Being an ex guitarist I thought vibrato was the slight bending and releasing of a note, and what the guy is calling a trill is a hammer on/off. Sliding back and forwards over two frets is pretty much the same thing.

Gilmour is my all time favorite guitarist. He can portray more with less notes than anyone I have listened to. The first solo in Comfortably Numb always makes me emotional.

There is no reason at all for you to play the way others expect. The beauty of music is that its always changing, somewhere, somehow. Listen to Jacko Pastorius or Chris Squire, they played there own way, with there own sound, and helped make the music much more interesting. You just need to find the right musicians. If that is what you want.

All the bands I have been in the musicians have been equals. If someone is going to tell you what to play and how to play it then why bother?

The way I see it what each musician brings to the party is what makes the band special, even covers bands. One of the bands I am in is made up of me, a funky, latin type drummer, the keys player who is from a strict Blues background, the guitarist who is a Jazz obsessive and and the Bassist who is a funk/Soul monster. Put these styles together in the covers we do and magic happens. We dont tell each other what to play or what will fit, we respect each other as musicians and 90% of the time it works. Sometimes we have to admit out part is not working and we are mature enough to change it to suit the song.

In a band with keys you tell the guy not to tread on your frequencies, bass is your job. For me playing with others is what it is all about, I only learn the bass and practice so I can play with others. Nothing beats the buzz of locking in with other musicians no matter how simple the bass line may be.

I must have been lucky cos 99% of the other musicians I have played with have been fine, the odd ego but that is sometimes what you get with guitarists and vocalists. Half joking, the rest of the band tells them to wind there neck in. As I do It for fun I dont have to put up with people who are really difficult.

Wish You Were Here and Echoes are probably my Favorites at the moment, but It changes with my mood at the time. Great memories of chilling with my mates back in the 70s in a little dingy flat in Newcastle.

It could be a little like hitting a drum. If you are having to really whack the drum to make it heard all you will hear is the fundamental, with no resonance or overtones as they get lost, there is no sustain. If you are playing the drum at a reasonable level you will hear all the overtones and resonance, the full spectrum of the drum sound. Could be the same with the bass strings.

Do you have the cabinet dimensions and number/length of ports sorted yet? I only ask as I am keen to make a start on the cab. I have read the post from page one and my brain is now liquid.

Perhaps cos bass frequencies are very un forgiving, trying to make a lightweight combo at a low price point is more difficult than it would seem. When you move up the price range to even very small combos like the MB, PJ Cub etc, the problems disappear. Seems if you want small and light, where bass is concerned, you have to pay for it.

I honestly dont know. I tend to have favorite songs and its only after I learn to play them someone will say "Oh, thats in 13/8 time you know". I do like 5/4 though.

Yea, I thought not. Thanks for the info, I was not aware it was a really small shop. Thats the problem with web adverts, you assume that what is on the web page is readily available. Glad its not like PMT, I get lost in the Birmingham store.

In a way I think thats fine. I think it means you are playing off/with each other rather than going through the motions.

Never been but It is very much on my list. Why do you have to check opening hours? The web site has shop hours, are they just a guide. I only ask cos I will probably just be browsing and feel making an appointment will give them a false sense of a big sale. Also, it sounds, rightly or wrongly, that they are only interested in experienced bassists and big sales. I am not high maintenance and like to be left alone with what I am trying, I always find I can ask if I want any help or advice.
