1.
What does he care....... he's hearing IEM's

The GK is just planted on stage to keep the deal going......, he doesn't even hear the GK tone, nore do you get it FOH as he used a Radial DI to feed his IEM's FOH and the GK Rigg !

    Rock Stars eh !!!
Exactly. For a lot of players the rig is just a prop :)

  2.
Something I noticed from reading that manual & I've noticed it before...The 4x10 has a usable response of 31hz to 13khz & the 1x15 has a usable response of 40hz to 13khz.
Does this mean that if you was to compare each individually, the 4x10 would produce a deeper bass? I understand the frequency curve throughout would probably differ considerably as you moved up the octaves.
That would be my interpretation. And a lot louder. I know a lot of specs are BS but when comparing the same manufacturer it should be there abouts for their products.

  3. There is a sticky somewhere of recommended luthiers.

What is done depends on whats needed but it can include dressing the frets, adjusting the truss rod, adjusting the string height abd intonation at the bridge and maybe filing (or replacing) the nut as well. It would be best done when fitting new strings - I always used to get mine done when I changed strings.

  4. I think you will find there are a lot of happy TIJF users on here, but like everything there are some that dont like them. I didn't like them on my fretless - go figure :) Mine are holding up very well but I dont play as much as I used to.

The path to string nirvana is a long and expensive one.

  5. What a disappointment :) I like to cite the GK RBH cabs where the 4x10 has 3dB sensitivity and 9Hz LF extension on the 1x15. So f***ed if I know why Flea sticks 1x15's under his 4x10's. Cos its what people expect to see is probably the answer. http://www.gallien-krueger.com/manuals/RBH...er_s_Manual.pdf

  6.
The thing is, I'm a little confused with sh*t it is exactly that I want:

When I put the SITs on, I loved that they felt flat, with low tension (a thin gauge probably helped) but a bright tone.

I took them off (the neck went from 3+1 to 4-in-line) and put on Ernie Ball Hybrid rounds so I had the brightness, but when I gig, the top-end sounds brittle (my cab has no tweeter either).

I want bright, but not harsh, I want bassy but low tension. What I want is either Status Hotwires (if you guys recommend as such) or another set of slightly heavier SITs.

    Dan
I would not describe the hotwires as low tension. Have you tried TI Jazz Flats? Very bright for flats.

  7.
What sort of sound do these strings give?

I've always found roundwounds to be too bright but flats to be too dead sounding. Are the half rounds a good compromise?
Thats the general idea.

  8.
Ferret - a signature update is due!

What do you reckon to the Spitfire (although I know 5s aren't you thing) and Rumour then? I'm waiting for the tweaks on the Rumour 4 - I'm looking forward to getting it back!
Yes you are probably right - sig update is due.

As for the Rumour - apparently she is called Gracie - I will have a better view after the gig on saturday but so far I am loving it.

  9.
Interesting to hear the thoughts on the two different models from you all - which one in your opinion is best suited for funk music which is mostly tight fingerstyle but does have a fair bit of slapping in it?
Your Rumour is back from the paint shop so its too late to change your mind. Looks loverly.

  10. Some pics to keep you going until I get some better ones.

Took it to Bernie tonight for some tweaks - Andre had guitar strings on it. He was trying to fix a lads Manson for him, they are in the studio tomorrow and his bass kept cutting out. Bernie gave it a good squirt of pot cleaner and the pre-amp fell to bits. Poor kid paid 1500 quid and only got a gig bag to put it in. Bernie tried his best but could not fix it.

Anyway I let him have a go on my Rumour while Bernie was poncing about, but his eyes popped out like organ stops when I got my black fretless out. And he could have had that for what he paid for the Manson.

  11. Dont know really. I would have to use them both at rehersal at least before I could say one was better than the other. Yes they sound different solo'd but I suspect that when I use them with the band the differences will be less noticible, and I wont slap so I could not comment on that. And the fretless is always going to have a different sound.

  12. Yes I would say thats exactly it. Its probably more than the through neck. The body is alder as opposed to swamp ash (although it is lighter but thats probably the bridge and metal knobs and will be fixed when it gets stealthed).

If I cut all the bass from the Rumour it sounds more like the Spitfire but if I boost the bass on the Spitfire it sounds nothing like the Rumour ;)
