1.
I'm with Simon. That headstock is a face only a mother could love. Quite ghastly and completely spoils the aesthetics of the instrument for me.
Totally agree. Why so BIG?

  2.
I've just sold three (possibly four) basses on Gumtree precisely because of this kind of crap in the FOR SALE forum. If anyone wants to debate censorship or whatever then fine, but there's that lovely shiny place called Off Topic. As far as I can see there is a bass for sale here. If people are interested then send the guy a PM. If not then why not myob?
I have bought and sold a few things on here. If somebody wants to sell something then they usually say what they want for it. Thats how sales work and I have no time for the feeler's that are always appearing on here and always ignore them. MYOB as you say. But this is an auction masquerading as a sale. I have not had any problems cos I always price my stuff for sale and if I could have got more then thats hard luck. Am sure I could of got more for my EBS rig given how quick I sold it.

However, if I had been moderated for selling with an auction then I would be more than a little pissed at this behavoiur.

Will he be auctioning his stake in basschat as well?

  3. What you have to remember is that mags can only review what they are given, although some of the shoddy reviews of late are really inexcusable (like when they reviewed Bentley and commented on the finish - it was not a brand new bass and they knew that).

Looking forward to improvements and hopefully more gear to review.

  4.
never said he was bad, but I can't hear anyhing different from hundreds of other motown players.
Almost all of Motowns output from Detroit was played by Jamerson or Bob Babbit. There were no other Motown bass players. Apart from the one's that were Carol Kaye of course :)

  5.
Ok so while we're here, what are your opinions on 6x10 cabs?
About halfway between a 4x10 and an 8x10 :)

Never used or heard one so try it and buy it if you like it. Not as portable as 2 x 4x10's (or even 2 x 3x10's). You could do what EBS_Freak has done and have 4 x 2x10's.

  6. You called?

Power handling of cabs is meaningless - you can use any wattage amp with any wattage cabs if you turn it down or reduce LF when it starts farting.

As for cabs, I would get 2 x 4x10's because mixing 10's and 15's gives unpredictable results.

  7. Been avoiding the thread but seen it get cross referenced on here and also on other forums so I read the first page.

If you dont like U2 - get over it. Likewise Oasis. Seems to me a lot of you just hate success, which makes it cool to like Jaco in a reverse snobbery kind of way.

I think U2 made some great albums in the early years - and dont forget that they have been going for years and made lots and lots of albums, many more than other rubbish bands like Led Zep, Beatles and Floyd etc (joke). I am not surprised their creative juices have dried up with such a limited format.

  8.
after all the best bassline of all time was played with a pick :)

Would this be a Carol Kaye track..?

    Garry
Bass Guitar Magazine voted Peaches the best bassline

  9.
Wow, that bass looks spectacular! I trust it's active? What pickup did you choose?
Yes it has the EBS pre-amp and a 68 precision pup that Bernie had laying around.
