1. Unfortunately you will find lots of different opinions on compressors as well as everything else. If your amp (or the Hartke interweb) has a manual it might give some indication of what the other settings are and what the knob does (usually threshold). And read the basschat wiki so you know what the knobs do. I use an EBS Multicomp which is one of the few I have not seen dissed. Not cheap though.

It what I would recommend. I would not bother with a 1x15.

It's a joke name sir like Silluis Soddus or Biggus Dickus
No. Spartacus and Bigus Dickus were real people.

A stream of consciousness that mere mortals, confined to the English language, are unable to comprehend :)

  5. Thats an interesting theory and I shall shortly be putting to the test. My fretless has the Schaller 2000 bridge that I really dont rate so its getting replaced by a Hipshot model A in ali that will make up for loss of mass with through body stringing. Before it had Mwah for England :) Find out soon.

  6.
Jamerson started playing jazz in 1954 and played on many jazz sessions before he joined Motown.
His early influences were jazz players like Percy Heath, Ray Brown, and Paul Chambers.

This qoute from an interview in 1979 says it all -
'Bass players call from all over, wanting to know what type of equipment I use, what type of bass, what kind of strings-- things like that. I'll tell them, but that's not what's important; it's the feel. The strings don't make the sound, it's the feel. It's all in here, in the heart'.

I wonder what he'd make of basschat !
Ray Brown was definitely influenced by Blanton. He even re-recorded some of the piano-bass duet's Ellington recorded with Blanton on an album called "This One's For Blanton" shortly before Duke Ellington died.
