Unfortunately you will find lots of different opinions on compressors as well as everything else. If your amp (or the Hartke interweb) has a manual it might give some indication of what the other settings are and what the knob does (usually threshold). And read the basschat wiki so you know what the knobs do. I use an EBS Multicomp which is one of the few I have not seen dissed. Not cheap though.

It what I would recommend. I would not bother with a 1x15.

I have got a 34inch bass tuned quite happy to BEAD. You can do it to any bass.

These are my favourite electric upright by miles. They dont look right without the curves (nudge, nudge). If only I had room

Another recommendation for moulded plugs. They are the best for getting even attentuation across the frequency spectrum.

Thats an interesting theory and I shall shortly be putting to the test. My fretless has the Schaller 2000 bridge that I really dont rate so its getting replaced by a Hipshot model A in ali that will make up for loss of mass with through body stringing. Before it had Mwah for England Find out soon.

Yes I tend to agree - nobody knows what makes a good mwah. You could try varnishing the fingerboard - it worked for Jaco

Ray Brown was definitely influenced by Blanton. He even re-recorded some of the piano-bass duet's Ellington recorded with Blanton on an album called "This One's For Blanton" shortly before Duke Ellington died.

I expect it was Jimmy Blanton of the Duke Ellington band 39-41. Thats where modern jazz bass started. I may have stuck something in the wiki.

I dont have to apologise to anyone for my GB's - I can afford them and thats all there is to it. They look, play and sound fabulous. Better than a Squire VMJ? Yes in my opinion. YMMV
