1. All being well, it'll be done within a week
2. You can spray it, but when you have a small workshop, no spray booth, and it's a cold British winter outside, there's really only one choice... and that's a brush It does take longer but with a good quality lacquer brush it's not too hard going. I also buff by hand, now that does take time, I guess I'm just a sucker for punishment
3.
Thats well nice, Simo has done a great job on the finish.
Cheers Robbie, not bad for a brush finish eh?
4. I recently brought a guitar from Ellis. A pleasure to do business with and the description of the guitar's condition was spot on.
5. That looks f**king awesome, nice work!
6.
Looks really sweet! That redwood has totally popped Does this mean youre going for laquer rather than oil finish?
I might as well answer that one Yeah, it was an obvious choice after working with the Redwood that an oil/wax finish wouldn't provide a tough enough finish, so I'm using Rustin's Plastic Coating instead.
7. EMG 35DC, 4 string active pickups. As you can see from the pic they're in great condition. I'm afraid I don't have the quick connector cables, but they can be found on ebay, etc. SOLD Description from EMG: "The EMG-35DC BLACK - The 35DC (Dual Coil) employs parallel placed coils (ceramic loaded) to produce a deep low end, and yet maintain clarity. All of the DC Models are beefy, brilliant, and have more than enough output. The DC also uses the ultra low-noise preamp designed for the EMG- JV model. We recommend an 18 Volt supply for extended head room. This pickup uses a 35 Extended housing that is 3.5 inches (89mm)"
8. Yep, Andy has some amazing quality Maple
9.
But why? Is it a solution to a problem that does not exist? And I still think the pups suck visually - does that compensate for the recessed tuners? If the pups had been the same width and the same poles it would look OK but it just looks wrong. But then if thats what the customer wanted you cant criticise the builder, apart from not trying hard enough to talk them out of it.
In fact, the recessed tuners do serve a purpose other than looks.... As you can see, the headstock has thick Maple veneers on the front and back of the headstock, along with some thin black veneer in between. Using the veneers means that the headstock wood itself must be planed down to be able to get to the required thickness to fit the tuners. So, rather than having a very thin amount of neck wood (and therefore a smaller gluing area on the scarf joint) I prefer to leave the headstock nice and thick and recess the tuners instead. Not only does it look good (in my opinion of course ) it makes for a very strong headstock. I realise that the pickups might not be everyone's cup of tea (I prefer the look of a nice slim soapbar pickup myself) but it was what the customer wanted. Although they might look the 'wrong way around' to some people, it actually works really well, and provides a surprisingly wide range of tones from such a simple setup.
10.
Hmm. I cant be arsed to register for a forum I am never going to use so I'll take your word for it. Seems to me his web presence could be improved
Ahh sorry, I hadn't realised the forum settings weren't allowing guests to view that section, it should be working now.....Cheers, Jon.
