3.
Hi Mate, In Manchester there is Matt Owens who is a great double bassist who also teaches. There is John Thorne who played for Lamb he is Manchester based. I would go to Matt&Phreds on Oldham St and watch some Jazz and then speak to whoever is playing afterwards, I have found most double bass players are really helpful. 5. Am looking to take on a few more private students to curb my excessive spending on gear recently.. Have loads of experience as a player and teacher, can work over any parts of playing that need to be looked at. Have been fortunate enough to recieve some lessons from some serious players and would pass the info on. Feel free to email me with any questions etc. Greg

8. Selling my Animas, going back to spiro's Been on my bass for no more than 30mins, so pretty much as new. A set costs £225+, how about £125 posted for this set. £100 off and as new... Selling an old set of spiro's (maybe 18months old at most). £30 posted.
9. Bugger, Ive got to sell some stuff to pay for a mic im jonesing for. In excellent condition, sounds great and im sure people know about the impedence matching qualities of this. £190 posted.
10. EBS Multicomp pedal. Boxed and in excellent condition. Great pedal, just dont use it with my setup anymore £85 plus postage
11. Hi, Ive put up for sale my much loved Schertler powered speaker. Anybody with a Schertler STAT-B or DYN-B should really consider this to get the absolute, full-range best from thier pickup. This is serious quality stuff. Hopefully itll go to a good home, while i try and clear some nasty credit card debt....
12. Ill be selling my lovely Schertler powered speaker to try and ward of the credit card demons. This is a seriously great little setup, absolutely brilliant for double bass or any accoustic instruments. Its got extremely high SPL which means it cut cut through loud and clear without having to go stupid loud and preserves the 'acoustic' sound of the instrument perfectly. I really cant recommend this amp enough and ill be very sad to see it go. All you need is a preamp and your off (itll work without a preamp also, but sounds much much better with one). Ill also be selling my Schertler PRE-AIII preamp which goes beautifully with this amp and is the suggested setup by Schertler themselves. Anybody using the STAT-B or DYN-B should seriously consider this amp (and preamp) to get the most from the pickup. The 2009 price for this is £1085, this is less than a year old and ill be looking for £680 (im taking a big hit..) I figure a new Gally MB150 is around this price, and this absolutely obliterates it for volume, clarity and acoustic sound. The Schertler PUB-Series active loudspeaker systems provide extremely powerful and portable solutions to a variety of sound-reinforcement challenges. PUB 2/280 Active 2-Way Loudspeaker The Schertler PUB 2/280 consists of an 8” bass reflex driver plus a 1” compression tweeter, housed in an extremely portable enclosure. Driven by two built-in amplifiers (200 watts RMS into 8 ohms for the low end, 80 watts RMS into 8 ohms for the highs, both with less than 0.10% THD), the PUB 2/280 has a frequency response of 38 HZ to 22 kHz while delivering 118 dB of clean, accurate sound. Designed for acoustic instrument stage amplification (in combination with the Schertler PRE-AII) or small club PA applications, the PUB 2/280 can be used either by itself or in combination with the PUB 1/380 Active Bass Extension. "The Schertler Dyn-B transducer sounds amazingly natural. There is plenty of variable control with the preamp [Pre-AII] to truly fine-tune the sound of your instrument. The pickup is simple to attach to the bass and it seems to be completely oblivious to sounds of other instruments in close proximity. When using the Dyn-B with the PUB 2/280 active loudspeaker system, my acoustic sound was incredibly duplicated." - Rufus Reid
13.
I have used it to run a Mesa Strategy 400 and it drove it a hell of a lot better than the Line 6 Bass Pod pro I had did.
hey man, i bought this lovely bit of kit from you. its great, and have been really pleased with it. but ive splashed out on an expensive Schertler setup for my double bass and just dont have a use for this now. it works beautifully with my old '68 pbass. anyone using passive pickups should hear what amazing things the summit does for them..
14. Ive gone through so many pickups/mics in the past year. Ive settled on the Schertler DYN-B with the preamp and powered speaker. It cost a fair bit, but im really pleased with the sound. I found the STAT-B to be really good also, but ive noticed that the Schertler stuff dosent work on everyones bass as standard. The Realist pickup seems to offer a pretty striaght forward, no mesing about option (i just dont like it at medium/high volumes). Ive still got my realist on my bass as a back up and am usually pleased with it when i use it. I know a couple of bass players that blend the realist with thw schertler dyn-b and get a great sound, but its a bit of money to spend... Havent tried the full circle, but i know its highly regarded and some of my favourite players get a great sound with it..
15.
can it drive a power amp with 1.23v input and 10k ohm z imput?
ummm... i dont really know the technical side of it, im sure you could find out on the net. ive used it mostly as a preamp/di to sent to fromt of house and it works really well to match the impedance of your pickup to whatever amp your running. sorry i cant answer your question..
16. Boxed and in great shape. Need to clear some money, so unfortunately ive gotta put a few things up for sale. This is a lovely bit of kit and works wonders with any passive and piezo pickups. my old '68 Pbass sound immense through this. In excellent condition, £220 posted.
17. You must all know about these, great tuner and as new. selling because i play mostly upright bass now and dont need the mute feature. as new, cant find the box though.. £40 plus postage..
18. Hi guys, im selling my Schertler preamp and thought id give you all a heads up just in case you were in the market for one. great bit of kit, im selling because my UNICO amp doesnt need the preamp. on ebay, just search for schertler pre-aII and you'll find it. ill be listing it later tonight, but if anyone is interested, email me and we can sort something out.

20.
I know the police don't get desperately excited about 'petty' theft but definitely worth reporting and suggesting that something as huge as double bass ought to have been picked up on a CCTV somewhere!
yeah, the police were polite but not particulary feeling my pain.. i spent the day driving round all the guitar and second hand shops putting the word out. to top it off, when i was parked in Bristol city centre and doing the rounds, my car got a parking ticket.... not the best week so far. i spoke with Allainz insurance today, hopefully they will accept my claim without a fuss and i can start looking to the future and getting a replacement. but the problem is, and this might affect all you chaps too, is that i bought my bass new about 18months ago and had the value set at what i paid for it. now with the £ and $ and euro going nuts, the same bass now is 30% more expensive to buy. but my fixed valuation means that the same replacment value bass will cost me an extra £350 on top of getting the car patched up and looking to buy a pickup, gigbag, realbook etc. make sure you guys dont get caught out by this too... thanks again for all the support and generous offers.
21.
That's a pretty audacious steal. Surely someone must have seen someone wandering around the vicinity with a double bass - neither a common nor an inconspicuous occurrence.
yeah, honestly, who steals a double bass..
22.
I know this may be a bit obvious but keep your eyes open on EBay & Gumtree. Someone I work with had his bicycle nicked & it was on EBay the very next day!
thanks for the replies chaps. its such a sh*tty feeling to lose an instrument (its my first time..) it was stolen from my car in Bristol, probably by a junkie looking for some quick cash. thanks for the offer of a loaner bass, thats very decent of you bassbod. hope this turns out alright.
23. Hi everyone, unfortunately my car got broken into and my double bass amongst other things got nicked. its a Stentor Conservatoire model, the G string is a gold colour Velvet Anima string, the bass has adjustable bridge with ebony adjusters. Also, the endpin rubber stopper is too big so ive got it stick on with some blue tack... thats the distinguishing features. If, by any chance anyone gets offered a suspect bass and it matches this discription. please get in touch. im gutted to lose this bass. regards, greg
24. Thanks for the interest so far. As far as price goes, I've seen a similar age/condition sell for £2700. Imagine what they will be worth in 2011 when the B15 turns 50. As for trades, I would only really consider a Bergantino IP12. Really hoping not to sell, but if a really good offer came in..
