1. Gotta move some stuff and clear some space. Good old workhorse bass cab. Anybody in the Bristol area is welcome to it and a cheap price, but you have to come pick it up..
 2. Brilliant workhorse amps, in great condition and would be a good amp for anyone. £150 posted. Feel free to message with any questions etc.
 3.
The nights at the Old Duke, Rose of Denmark, Mr Wolfs, Leftbank and The Full moon are all good, anything goes nights. Some of the others tend to be focussed more towards certain types of music like blues or folk. Also, have a look on Facebook for Mark Venus Music in Bristol. Mark hosts a lot of open mic/acoustic sessions around the city.
Sorry for the delay in replying, not teasing- honest. The ones i mentioned are mostly Jazz sessions and are on Mondays at the Canteen and the Harbourside (new venue) on alternating Mondays evenings. There is the Albert in Bedminster every weds also. Im usually the house bassist, i used to do the Full Moon session as the bassist before we moved on. There is a Facebook page called 'jam sessions bristol' which spreads the word (im trying to be more organised...). Join that and it should keep you informed. Please do come up and say hello, be nice to meet some basschatters in the flesh. Greg
 4.
Is there any kind of pick up on it? Also, got any pics? Cheers
Heres a couple of shoddy mobile phone photos. Its a lovely looking bass in the flesh. Could fit a Fishman Full Circle for another £100 if wanted/needed...
 5. Hi all, Theres a load of jam sessions happening these days in Bristol. I end up house bassist on a fair few of them, be good to have some basschatters come down and play/hang...
 6. The Pixies. Take your pick, 'Gigantic' 'Where is my Mind?', any of 'em.
 7. Heres the link. Steve Amadeo can back me up on how great these are and im selling at a great price too.. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=101827
 8. Breaks my heart to do this, but ill have to put this up for sale. This is an incredible instrument, its a bonafide double bass (not EUB or Czceh ease type) that looks/sounds/feels/plays great and isnt a compromise when touring. This bass will also fold up into itself and allow you to travel and tour without overweight/outsize fees and will not get damaged. Heres the site- http://foldingbass.com/ You really have to see/hear and play it to believe it. It amplifies really well (better than my 100 year old Mittenvald annoyingly) and would make a great all round bass. For the price, its so much more accomplished than the Stentor's and similar instruments. £1900 with soft and hard case, new spirocore strings and Fishman Full Circle fitted.
 9. Hi all, Im selling my headway preamp, which is an outstanding preamp for upright bassists and thier pickups/mic's. Heres the link. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=99655
 10. I (reluctantly) have to sell a few things off and this will most likely move on. This is an outstanding preamp, and a quick search on the forums ('talkbass' etc) will turn up all the positive comments etc. This is the best preamp ive used for getting the best from piezo pickups and also allows using a mic (has phantom power too) and can blend both if desired. http://www.headwaymusicaudio.com/product_e...stic_preamp.php They go for £199, its as new (used it three times) £150 posted sounds about right. The Schertler powered speaker is great also, i used it with great results but have ended up with an acoustic image and need to claw some money back. Heres the ebay link if anyone is interested and wants to make an offer. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Schertler-SIDE-Power...DefaultDomain_3

You can hear some of his great playing on my myspace page. Lets not forget to mention Jason Rebello as well....
 13.
Did you buy that the one that Charlie brought over with him recently on a tour? I was going to try and meet him in Sheffield or York but busy work meant I missed out on meeting him and seeing/trying his bass. He was very helpful via emails. What are your impressions of the long term durability of the moving parts and the stuff you take on and off? Also, how's the acoustic volume/tone?
Yup, i bought his one from him. As far as long term durability goes, the design looks a really good one and i think itll hold up well. It was a bit of a concern at first, but after quite a few pack downs i feel confident about it. Also, Charlie is such a good bloke that i feel comfortable that he would rectify any problems that may arise. The acoustic volume and tone of it is good, not as loud and complex as my 100 year old mittenvald, but it actually amplifies better than the old girl- which is kind of annoying. The amped sound of it with the full circle works really well and i havent needed to use my DYN-B on it. So far, so very good.
 14. Anybody seen/heard about these basses? http://foldingbass.com/ Had the pleasure of meeting and spending a bit of time with Charlie, who is one of the most pleasant and genuine people you could hope to meet. I was sceptical about this bass for al the reasons that you would be, but i saw/played/heard and have since toured with the bass and its fantastic. Its a bonafide double bass, plays great, amplifies even better than my 100+ year old german bass with the Full Circle pickup (which is really important to me as i do pop stuff etc and hardly ever get a chance to mic...) The hardcase is compact and can be flown on airlines and is under the excess baggage charges. It also means that i dont have to freak out on the white van tours anymore, no chance of snapping the neck or bumping the bridge etc. The case has wheels, so i manouver around london with no problems as well. This is a serious alternative to hiring basses in Europe (in my experience, they are usually terrible with terrible pickups) and it means you can avoid the EUB route as well if you wanted. Im happy to hire it out to touring bassists as well, feel free to get in touch if you wanted/needed it for shows/tours etc. Steve Amadeo knows about these badboys also, i just cant speak highly enough of it. I got it weeks ago, but waited to tour and gig with it to really get a feel for it before posting.
 15.
Damn, if the 57 sale falls through can I have dibs please? Could collect too.
definately. your 2nd in line mate. hope your well joe.
 16.
That Larry Grenadier's got a lot to answer for!
yup. he can play a bit though...
 17.
Which mic are you using greg? I see you're selling a couple so you must have a favourite one you're keeping unless it's secret squirrel of course...
Neil, Get the ATM450! Its very very good for that price. Im only selling it to pay for ££££ Schoeps mic.... Come over and check it out.
 18.
Bought brand new from Mark (top bloke) at Bass direct. Used twice, in immaculate condition. Works beautifully as a bass preamp as well as a kiler fuzz box. The valves can really warm up your sound. They cost £220 new and this is as new as it can get... Sell for £160 posted
bump.
 19. Hi all, Selling my ATM450 (which i cant recommend enough for this price) and a SM57. Any double bassists with aspirations of using a mic live, or having a good condensor for the studio should consider this. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=88002
 20. Having a clearout to help pay for a Schoeps mic im after. ATM450- In excellent condition, this mic is perfect for Double Bass in the studio and live. Great sound for any acoustic instruments as well. Highly recommended for anyone after a good sounding small diaphram condensor mic. They cost £180+ new, £95 posted. SM57 Dynamic mic. Everyone should know these and have one in their arsenal. Had a few knocks and scratches, but these things are indestructable (thats why theyre at every venue as stoxk mic's). Works perfectly. £30 posted
 21.
Some amps provide phantom power - my Clarus does. But if you go through backline you are running a high risk of feedback. I have a DPA 4099 and find that if I use a Headway preamp (which also provides PP) it cuts the feedback down to a workable level. Mic to FOH is the ideal though. Headway is approx £200 and I doubt whether you'll find one in the 'for sales' they are that good.
I agree on the Headway, its a very good option for its size/price etc. I may even be selling mine if you were curious. Gone the way of mic and FMR preamp and need to sell sell sell...
