1. Thanks guys, Checked out the stevensons, very expensive but obviously worth it to protect your instrument. Has anyone had any experience of the german made flight cases on ebay. There £729 less than half the price.
 2. Ah I've seen these but not close up. Do you think it would be safe on a flight in this case. The airline have just totaled my first bass. I have to replace it and take proper precautions. Cheers Sam
 3. Hi, Has anyone out there got a carbon case fro double bass for sale or any hard case really. Pretty urgent, I'm flying a lot with my bass and I've learnt the hard way... Cheers Sam
 4. Hi I'm looking for a better bow - ideally an old one with history. Mine is a £60 student one, its done me good but I want to move up a notch. My budget stretches to about £200. If anybody knows of any for sale or a good stockist in the country it would be great to get some advice... Cheers Sam
 5.
Hi...It might be possible that I can help... I'm selling a double bass, it's a hungarian model from around '65. It has Maple spruce back and sides but the back has been replaced with ply. I am selling it for £300 because it had some serious damage to the scroll, which has been fixed solid now and has stood the test of time and playing. Its not perfect but its stronger and has a better tone than the new plywood factory ones I'm sure and has seen me through the past three years well. It's also got mother of pearl markers up the side which can help with intonation at the beginning. If you want to know more or to see some photographs let me know... Hong x
Ah also check out Avishai Cohen and Henri Texier... both on that glorious spotify.
 6.
Hello, I have been playing double bass for about a month now and have been practicing on the one at my college so far, standards and original jazz compositions I've got to get my own though and I was wandering if anyone on this wonderful thing as the internet knows where I could get a good beginners double bass, I don't have huge amounts of money to spend I'm looking between £250 - £350. This is practically nothing in DB terms i know but its all i got. Also I'm checking out bassists like Christopher White, Ray Brown, Dave Holland, Mingus, Gary Peacock, Eugine Wright if you guys knew of any other great bassists to check out any cool solos for me to transcribe i'd love suggestions. Thank you!!
Hi...It might be possible that I can help... I'm selling a double bass, it's a hungarian model from around '65. 7.
Ive gone through so many pickups/mics in the past year. Ive settled on the Schertler DYN-B with the preamp and powered speaker. It cost a fair bit, but im really pleased with the sound. I found the STAT-B to be really good also, but ive noticed that the Schertler stuff dosent work on everyones bass as standard. The Realist pickup seems to offer a pretty striaght forward, no mesing about option (i just dont like it at medium/high volumes). Ive still got my realist on my bass as a back up and am usually pleased with it when i use it. I know a couple of bass players that blend the realist with thw schertler dyn-b and get a great sound, but its a bit of money to spend... Havent tried the full circle, but i know its highly regarded and some of my favourite players get a great sound with it..
Cheers Guys, you've all been much help...Some guy has offered me a realist at an alright price so I'll give it a whirl. I also have a fishman pro platinum so I might just have it sorted with this combo. never found that preamp effects much though...
 8. Hello All I have just purchased my first "proper" double bass. A gorgeous old Markneukirchen. I've had it set up structurally the way I want it, nice end pin, a light tail piece and new set of Eva Pirastro strings and she sounds oh just delicious. The projection is so that I have actually been able to play some of the more intimate gigs fully acoustic. Of course I can't do this with all of them and now it is time to look at investing in a decent pickup. I have used the fishman BP100 until now but its just not gonna cut it on this new bass. I want something to replicate the acoustics of the bass, not the strings. I am pushed towards the full circle by everyone I have spoken to but I was hoping that some of you guys may be able to throw some of your experience and expertise my way. I play both Arco and Pizz in the same set and so need that balance of sound between both styles...cheers Mama Hong.
