1. I too hope shes OK, shes had some hard times so lets just hope she wanted some time alone, feel for her children and family too
2. Great idea (poll that is) recon we should do one for staying in the EU :-)
3.
True
Just googled it, lots of sound clips, and its only twenty squid!!! Incredible - if people can make a stand alone pedal for that why are manufacturers not all incorporating the technology !
4.
I`ve not so much become a wimp as have just found that my permanent shoulder injury prevents me from carrying heavy gear, but doesn`t prevent me from carrying light gear. If the very light gear were not around I`d just have to buy the lightest of the old heavy stuff, leave it in the car all the time, and get help at rehearsals and gigs.
Hopefully by now people will have realised I am of course playing devils advocate and so have total respect for you and anyone who modern tech has helped, whatever, weight or size. As for parking, so far its was never an issue for me but having not been a regular in London I can not comment but only sympathise.
5.
As long as it has a limiter it must be environmentally sound, so that's all right, then.
Did i mention the Panda skin headlining
6.
You'd almost imagine people buy cars on a whim without thinking, wouldn't you?
I have people to do that and I can honestly say I never asked how many MPG my car does to the gallon befoe buying it, though I do know it has 12 cylinders two turbo chargers and is limited to 200mph :-)
7.
Heavy stuff is heavy because of the technical and cost limitations of the day, not because its somehow better purely by being heavy.
Have you told that to Mesa Boogie, Ampeg, Orange et al? Not that anyone buys that old crap now :-)
8. So old bad, new good? Guess thats why a Stradivarius is next to worthless, why a 1952 Precision is unsalable, why vintage Aston Martins sit unwanted in damp garagea and no one drinks anything other then Beaujolais Nouveau. As for those old valves, don't even start......
9. Weight. Thats what I am taking about, when I started playing back in the late 1970s (yep, really am that ancient) bass stacks were big and heavy. We had two transits to lug around our equipment, the PA alone took two men just to move each cab, and there were six of them. My amp was a 4 x 10 Trace Elliot combo, at the time relatively small compared to other people 8 x 12 Marshall stacks, but it was still heavy. Very heavy, I know because until last month I still owned it. Until recent;y i had never even considered the weight of a Bass, it was what it was, yet now I keep seeing 'how much does it weigh' in replies to adverts - OK, i am sure there are some people who have back / medical issues, but not that many surely! Same with equipment, number if times I have seen people with small lightweight cabs kidding themselves that that 8mm chipboard ply is going to produce the same sound as 15mm marine plywood is amazing. Go and try and lift up a professional full range B&W studio monitor, or even a high end home hifi, its massively heavy and there is a reason for that. So, whats with the weight thing, have we all become wimps
10. Well, after all that I decided NOT to paint the bass black, was 100% sure that was what i wanted (same with the Alembic i a, selling) the black pick-guard arrived and i just tried it on the existing sunburst body, and I love it! Saves messing about with the paint and so can always return it to original if I sell etc -
11. Managed tp find the original Fender description on an old ad: "The new S-1? switching system makes this an extremely versatile bass that gives players an array of cool new sounds"
12. Interesting but reference to iton a Bass, but now I know what its called (thanks for that) googled it and found this: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/fender-precision-s-1-switch.703460/
13. Am almost embarrassed to admit that after owning the bass for about 8 years, today I noticed that the volume control has some kind of built in button. When pressed in the tone is brighter / less full - had no idea it was there, any idea what its called or designed to do!
14. Welcome from another newbie - I pent most my childhood in and around Dublin, which part are you from ?

16. Quite a long time ago, must be around 1990 I was sitting in the waiting room of a holistic centre in in Bath waiting for a friend who worked there and just chatting about the weather to the guy next to me. After me left my mate came out and said you do realise who that was. Mope. None other then Peter Gabriel, ironically one of my heroes. Fast forward to last year and am at the Walnut Tree restaurant near Abergavenny when I recognise the voice coming from the table next to me, this time I recognised Peter. As we were about to leave I popped to the loo, guess who came in and stood at the next urinal, yep Peter but this time i could not resist saying hello (bit odd given the location I know). On the way out he actually held the door open for me, what a nice , totally normal, totally unassuming chap.
17.
Why does a neck need to get fat up the dusty end?
Brilliant, bit heard that before
18. Asymmetric shape and sharp edge is the best way I can describe it, in addition the taper is not as pronounced as say a precision
19. I have wanted a Ric for over 30 years, ended up with the usual Precision, not so unusual Aluminium neck Kramer, an Alembic and an early active Wal. So having decided to sell the Alembic (so on that basis I had the money in theory right? ) I went to PMT in Cardiff to try a 4003S they had in stock. Looked beautiful on the wall and its still does. As other have commented the neck felt so weird, also close up the control had a sort of cheap look. Sound was great, esp the bridge pickup but after 15 mins of playing I was glad to give it back but sad that a little dream had died.
20.
I thought you were one & the same too - twins separated at birth, maybe?
Ah, but if you look carefully you will see I have something extra on my image ! Ps, what is Gelfin's bass bash ?
21. What is this "Gelfin's bass bash" of which you speak?
22. My next one was a a young lad in Ireland, had relatives in Dublin and would go and stay with my Aunt for a few weeks. Was sitting on the wall out side my Aunts house in about 1968 in Crumlin just outside Dublin when this tall skinny guy with afro haircut walks past, In 1968 that was pretty unusual look for Ireland back then, asked my uncle who he was and he said some bloke in a band called Skinny Liz. Well not far out, was of course Phill Lynott.
23.
Not if you're in Status Quo.
And talking of Quo....
