  1. Apart from the traditional regimental Bb Bugles for military calls (notated in C). There is also a Soprano Bugle in G with a horizontal valve so it can be played in D as well. Drum & Bugle Corps use it. Which kind of falls into place with the Bass harmonics in 'G' version played by the Bassist above. I believe there are two and three valve Bugles also used in the Corps This chap below, explains the various Bugles very well.
  2. It's just five notes around a Major Triad. From what I've heard the last couple of days, Bugle players have been playing it in Bb. I've also heard a Trumpet player playing it in Eb. The fellow below plays it in 'G' using harmonics.
  3. Steinberg UR22 mkII.. https://www.steinberg.net/audio-interfaces/ur22mkii/
  4. If anyone likes Dave Grusin. A really nice album from 1976. A great band as well: Ron Carter, Harvey Mason, Lee Ritenour and Larry Bunker on vibes and percussion.
  5. Joey DeFrancesco Trio live... And this splendid tune...
  6. I have just noticed this 'Piero Piccioni' YouTube channel with plenty of his material on. https://www.youtube.com/c/pieropiccioni/videos
  7. Might as well turn it into a Piero Piccioni appreciation thread. He is worthy...
  8. Yes, his writing and arranging skills were terrific. His Big Band stuff was good too.... Oddly enough, at around 3:15 of that video, it sounds like the same Bass player in style and sound. If you listen through headphones you can quite clearly hear it is an Electric played with a pick. Very much the sound and style of that era. The more you listen to Piero Piccioni, the more you become a fan of his music and start hunting down more of him. His music was very catchy. It is difficult trying to track down the musicians on his sessions. A few in this link but unfortunately, not the Bassist. https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/piero-piccioni/colpo-rovente/
  9. Yeah, thanks for posting... To me, that sounds like a Pick and flats, played near the neck. The extra edge might be because it's a Jazz Bass? On another note, Piero Piccioni composed some great film scores back in the 60's and 70's. His string arranging was beautiful and very romantic. Great voicings..!!
  10. Second Guitar in a band? Surely there are specialised forums with like minded people where you can indulge in activities like that? Personally, I think historic behaviour like that should be kept a secret.**
  11. Vince Mendoza and the LSO. The album is called 'Epiphany'. Stunning arranging.
  12. "I'm gonna take the classical guitar which I...learned yesterday"....
  13. He's transcribing chops for a 15 year old ain't to shabby either....
  14. Seeing as you had a front row seat, right in front of him... I'm surprised you didn't ask him during the intro to 'The Chinese Way' when there is no Bass going on...
  15. 8DIO have a 55% sale on at present. You can pick up individual section Instruments for just under $24 a piece (no tax added on). These are great for Soul/Jazz/R&B etc...where as the BBCSO (discovery) Brass Instruments mentioned above (although terrific), are Orchestral Brass Instruments, not really ideal for what the OP is looking for sound wise. The only problem with the 8DIO Instruments is the need for a full version of Kontakt. LINK: https://8dio.com/instrument-category/solo-brass/
  16. Yes, a very good Jazz Guitarist. And of course, his legendary 'Knack Bass' sound. Like I said earlier, he had an interesting (and productive) life. From Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladi_Geisler
  17. Double post... Christ...what's going on here. A colossal pilot error of a crash and burn on my part.
  18. Rare footage of him from 00:15 onwards. Judging by the terrible hair and large 'Bat' bow ties on show, probably from the 70's.
  19. Ladi Geisler was picking away on Bass Guitar as a session musician in Germany during the late 50's and onwards. He was originally a Jazz Guitarist (his is life was interesting to say the least). Many of us old Musical Dinosaurs could tell his style and trademark 'Bass' sound from a hundred paces....
  20. Just to let you know that there is now a 50% discount on the two VST's that I mentioned. The sale ends on November the 10th. 👍 https://www.native-instruments.com/en/specials/komplete/e-instruments-offer-2021/#c968369
  21. It might be worth watching the onsite videos for this one. A free Piano to start you off...and very good it is. Basically, 8DIO now have their own (free) Sample player. The libraries are keenly priced as well https://soundpaint.com/
  22. A freebie from Native Instruments. For both the free and full version of Kontakt. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/play-series/twenty-five/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=free_25_play_series EDIT: Just downloaded and had a whiz through...it's very good indeed with quite a selection of sounds. 👍
  23. VST Plugin wise, NI Session Horns is a good bet for Pop/Jazz/Soul etc if you don't want too spend to much. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/cinematic/session-horns/ The Pro version is quite a bit more but, a load more Instruments and articulations. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/cinematic/session-horns-pro/
  24. 8DIO have a a 55% off everything sale. Full version of Kontakt needed for these libraries https://8dio.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjw5c6LBhBdEiwAP9ejG6--l8jHol6YEqgzO4sKrujW2UQizoO0ChsTW2KQpIC6XiJAXGpWGBoCfWIQAvD_BwE A good bunch of free stuff from them as well under the 'Free' tab at the top of the page.
  25. I think Martin Scorsese knew what he was doing with this one...
