1. i think it had a lot to do with the lack of respect fenders were held in during the 70's and 80's

during these decades bass players were into slap, etc (YUK!) and looking for something new other than (what they perceived as being boring) fenders - alembics, headless basses, and jap thrunecks

i myself remembering selling what must have been a pre-cbs p bass (that had been refinished in purple - not by me) for £195 and buying first a thruneck aria , then a thruneck yammy - a BB1200 that i still have

all these non-fender basses tended to have natural finishes

so i believe that guys that kept their fenders tended to strip them in order to emulate the looks of the non-fender basses

i think some of the above is borne out by the that fender themselves started to produce natural finish basses in this period

in terms of value a stripped bass probably knocks the value in half i am afraid

Only those stickers with 'CE' and "Don't dispose off with reular trash" should be removed! The plate itself is great ;)

+1 They're totally unnecessary, don't understand why Fender fit the XWheelieBinX I'm sure that means "Don't dispose of batteries in regular waste"

I always get them off ASAP, they just annoy me
yes good points

i normally do remove them so I will take them off

Thanks! Is that an individual 'string tree' on the A-string? Great idea..!
Yes its prettier than another bulky string tree I suppose

Oh yes, I just wanted to have a look is all.
The brief for my custom P was also all about including my favourite P features. :)

Nice, but let's see the headstock! :D
the headstock is the later 57 onwards

do not forget that this is a celebration of 60 years of p bass

its meant to include the best bits of the various basses

the reason the headstock changed from the tele style to the larger post 57 was to improve the neck and reduce deadspots

GAH! remove this ridiculous sticker on the neck plate, I beg you!
I hate those, they suggest anyone would be stupid enough to put a Fender Bass into a trash can!!! :o
you are probably right about the neckplate

although i think 60 years of precision is something to be proud of and maybe even shout about

7.15lbs - surprised it hasn`t floated away  Lovely bass though.
cheers lozz

yes the weight surprised me especially as its ash - maybe they allowed the wood to season

  8. 7.15lb see through blonde ash body

The pre amp has been changed, non original knobs, drilled body for jack socket.

String tree is in the wrong place (should be G&D not A&D) logo I'm not sure about and if that's a chamfered body it's not a pre body either , colour is also not a pre EB colour.

Needs more info explaining all the above before anyone gets involved in my opinion :)

No factory contoured pre EB basses were made, so either way at best it's an transition era not a pre EB as the listing states. Take out the wrong body, EQ and scratch plate and at best it's a pre EB neck. Even as someone often accused of bigging pre EB prices up I'd be reluctant to pay £2k for a neck ;)

    pete

great to see you posting again

but you naughty boy, you must not comment on prices

from your comments it is now clear to me that the value in this bass is all to do with jeff berlin's signature <_<

I'm pulling this from ebay as I may have an interested party from the States and I'd rather go for a guaranteed price rather than run the risk of a 'possible' good price on ebay.
shame about that

i was gonna have a punt

for future reference, your ebay end date (10amish 2muro) was not a good choice as many people at work or if not working maybe not awake - best finish time is sunday pm/evening - maximise your chance of a "good price"

    cheers

I traded my Stingray (2EQ Rosewood) for a P ('78 Maple) ten years ago and have no regrets.
The MM was superior in terms of build quality and had superb playability, but the tone was just not right for me.
As soon as I played the P I knew I preferred it to the 'Ray. The P is heavier and there are gaps in the neck pocket, but it just felt and sounded right for me.

I'd say that MMs are as popular as a bass can be. If it's not a P or a J.

    i like it
