2.
Wowwie.

I know we went supposed to comment on price but this may well do better in Europe do to the pound being weak against the Euro, and where generally the Market is a bit stronger.
No i think that it is a reasonable price even in the UK for a 78 ray - about £1750?

  3.
I was reading some posts on a basschat topic today about a Trace rig on ebay and how great they sounded back in the day. Different strokes for different folks I suppose but I've never got on with TE stuff. I can never get (in my opinion) a good sound from the things. When I was getting serious about bass, in the 90's, these were the holy grail of bass amplification but I never got on with them. In the past whenever I turned up at a gig where the backline was TE or a rehearsal studio (where all old TE gear goes to die) and one of these greeted me I knew I'd be spending most of the first hour trying to get a halfway decent sound. Thank goodness for lightweight bass heads because now if the bass amp is a Trace I can just plug my TC head into the cab and get a decent sound right away.

Does anybody else have a dislike of TE stuff or am I just a weirdo?
Here's a big mans rig for you:-

  4.
Well I love it - if I had a spare £800, well I probably wouldn`t have it anymore!

That to me is exactly how I like a Precision - battered beyond belief. I`d do it to mine, but I like genuine wear, not fake, and think that this one has just been badly treated over many years. I`d def give it a home.
Yes I do not think its a bad bass - all looks genuine

The guard has been replaced which makes you wonder if anything else has - such as pups, pots, wiring - of course guard and neck off would be really helpful

  5. Just a bit of an update and a second opinion.

I don't know whether this is the same bass that WOT had but I took possession of one these yesterday from our own Legion/Jas, which has also been sometime owned by Clarky.

I have had a couple of mid/late 70's fender fretless precisions.

This one compares very favourably, being a nice weight at 8 3/4 lbs and with an ebony board, de-tuner, jazz pup and useful strat-type slider switch controlling the pups.

    Highly recommended

  6.
.. and nice to meet you both at Bass Merchant yesterday to witness the transaction!! Ended up with a Ray34 myself!!!

    Neil
they look like really nice basses

from what i saw the bass merchant shop has a great collection of quality basses - my first visit

  7. Its a personal thing - i can't stand ampeg's but maybe I just have not experienced a good ampeg rig yet

    I use TE stuff

I don't particularly like the the tranny heads, but I use an all valve TE V6 and thats the dogs

Maybe you should try out an all valve TE rig before making final judgement?

  8.
Bump for price reduction.

Hello Gareth - I'm pressed for time to do a strip down atm, give me a week or two. I can guarantee that it is completely legit though, as I disassembled it and did a thorough check when I bought it. I'm pretty sure neck date is 6/83 but will confirm later. Do you think you've spotted something amiss?
No I do not think anything is amiss, just handy to have these details if they are available

  9. thanks for that

the neck date shows 18th February 1983 and the name of of H Gastelum

both of which support this as being a fullerton reissue

    good luck with the sale

  10. could you let us know the serial number - by all means blank out the last 2 digits for security reasons

and before you did the refinish (or are there still) were there any dates or markings in the neck cavity, neck or in control and pup cavities?

    thanks

  11.
When you place something for sale through the ebay auction medium you are by definition entering into a contract with the buyer as per ebay's T&C. Failure to complete the sale is breaking that contract (which by the act of signing up to ebay you have agreed to); it is then a contract as per any contract that you either agree to in writing or verbally and there is a civil case for the breaking of that contract.
You are absolutely right

BUT if the seller refuses to sell, enforcement of the contract will be costly in terms of legal expenses or illegal if you attempt some other forms of enforcement such as the ones to which have been suggested

  12.
Hi,

    would you take £2695?

  13.
I won a no reserve (non-Warwick bass) on ebay from a guy who lived about 5 miles away; the bass sold ridiculously cheap and unsurprisingly the seller point blank refused to answer any of my emails or ebay messages, I even paid via paypal and that was refunded. I went through the ebay process to get his home number and called him, he was a bit surprised to say the least and basically said that he wasn't selling that cheap so I could go take a jump... 30 minutes later I turned up on his doorstep!

He ranted a bit and told me to 'go forth and multiply' but I resolutely stood my ground and explained that he had entered into a contract and that was a contract that I intended completing. He went inside and closed the door and just as I was on the verge of giving up knocking on his door (approx 15 minutes), the Police turned up. The seller came out and started shouting and gloating at me, right up until I'd quietly reasoned with the two officers and presented my paperwork from ebay (yes sad I know but I had printed it off just incase the guy denied any knowledge), at which point the officers told the seller to sort this out as it was not a criminal matter (civil) and that I was within my rights to be there paying for the item that I had purchased. The police duly left and the guy slammed the door!

The end of the story is a bit of an anti-climax as he still didn't open his door or sell me the bass but he was removed from ebay (seems my purchase wasn't the only one he pulled out of). I could have started a civil court case but it really wasn't worth the hassle. I did however get my own back on him but that is another story. :) :)
So as I said if a seller does not want to sell, he won't - nothing you can do
