How you finding your new toy Cato. You've had it over week now. ?

I just keep finding more things I like about it.
Unfortunately I trapped one of my plucking fingers in a folding table at work the other day so I can barely play at the moment, at least not without knocking the scab on my fingertip off, which to be fair I've done at least once a night since the injury, as I can't resist picking the bass up and playing it. -

That looks rather lovely
Nothing to fear with Mexican instruments and some of them are exceptionally good. I've been working on a Mexican Strat this week and might even ask the chap if he would consider selling it to me.
Hope the gig goes well.

I've got a Mex thinline Tele which I bought c2000.
To this day it remains pretty much my favourite skinny stringer I've ever played. My ex's dad had a fairly impressive collection of top end Gibsons and Fenders which we used to jam on from time to time. I wouldn't swap my mex Tele for any of them.
That experience has given me complete confidence in Mexican Fender instruments, only reinforced by the mex deluxe precision special that arrived to live with me recently. -
Even if he goes through with it (which I doubt because he promised that Mexico would pay for his wall , not US citizens) it shouldn't affect prices outside the US.

Honourable mention for Yolanda Charles

The title track has dropped on YouTube

The best thing about that is the hat.
Maybe it's a grower, but the krautrock influence is killing the funk for me. -
Anyone mentioned Larry Graham yet?

Excellent taste sir.
I'm particularly loving the neck on mine, it's one of the most comfortable I've ever played.
Good luck with the gig, let us know how you get on. -
Like it or loathe it a lot of players do slap, and not all basses are well suited to it, so if a manufacturer wants to appeal to the widest potential market it's worth them demonstrating how the technique sounds on their product.

I think they supported AC/DC.

I think you may well be right, possibly on the Razor's Edge tour? -
This an awesome song.

I saw Kings X supporting someone else (I can't remember who but Megadeth, AC/DC or Alice Cooper would be the prime candidates) at the NEC in Birmingham back in the early 90s.
They were superb, although they suffered from the usual low turnout for support acts at arena gigs. -

I could take you to parts of Millwaukee that is still pretty much like Happy Days.

Blue, you've once again shattered my illusions.
I've always thought that the music scene in Milwaukee was something like this

Oh no, it's obviously too late for you, were you married a long time ago by any chance?

Would have been, if it wasn't for that bastard... -

I feel really bad now, if my post made you search through all the different versions then I am partly to blame for your suffering, no apology could suffice. I hope no long term damage has occurred. If you start twitching and lifting your leg randomly whilst holding your belt loops you will know it's got to you.

Yeeha! -
This has to be a contender.
Rod Stewart fans look away now...

I came very close to getting the 4 string version when I was looking for a PJ at the start of the year, before I decided to go for the Fender Deluxe P instead.
It's a very nice bass indeed. -

It is even worse, it seems to be relying on the crowd looking at the girls and ignoring the utter pap being played. Very sad.
[/quote]
Fair enough.
It was the best traditional version of the song I could find on YouTube.
The others all seem to be instrumentals or dodgy recordings of scratchy old vinyl. -

Cotton eye joe would take some bearing. Again it's a novelty record and I defended star trekkin earlier but there is no justification for cotton eye joe.

Which version?
While I agree that this one is pretty awful

There's a certain energy about this version.

Tricky one there's just so much irritating stuff out there.
However I'd like to offer two up for consideration:

And

Interestingly both artists are X Factor successes, both songs went to number 1 in the UK charts, before both songs effectively signaled the end of the commercial success of the artists involved.
My theory?
Marketing and PR will get you only so far before the public realises that your product is sh*te. -

Queen - A Day at the Races - first stage of their descent into dreadful crappery
Queen - News of the World - see above
Queen - Jazz - see above
Queen - The Game - see above
A trend may be emerging here.

They did rebound though albeit relatively briefly.
Queen - Flash -One of the best soundtracks ever.
Queen - The Works
Queen - A Kind of Magic

I've always liked 'trouser flapping' as a descriptor for bass.
