Well. After playing it I've gone for a squier vm jazz bass. I'm really pleased with it. To me it seems to sound and play really nicely.

Ends up my question was irrelevant but thanks to all for the input.

    I've got the VM70s Jazz.

    Lovely basses.

  2. I prefer bass player - IE someone who plays bass. I find bassist makes it sound as though its some sort of professiojln past a hobby, which for me it most certainly isnt.

    I get that.

I'm a decent bassist , but ,while I also play guitar to a reasonable standard, I'm definitely not a guitarist.

This is of course true. Im going to do some digging. PMs have been sent RE the Ashdown head and TC Cab. Other than those theres the Genz combo (which Im only worried 350w is a bit on the shy size, though what do i know) and also brand new fender rumble 500s are about £500 on Andertons/PMTs websites.

350w through the extension cab will almost certainly be fine.

The reason I suggested 500w is that it should be plenty loud enough through a single cab and also give you a fair bit of headroom, hopefully you'll never need to crank it much past halfway.

I hear Banjo Kid from Deliverance is playing !

Must be true as I read it in the Hard Times.

The scariest thing about that article is the number of comments from people who think it's genuine.

As much as it takes and not a penny more. Probably looking at second hand gear up to the price of £500. If thats even enough.

You should be able to get a decent 500w amp head and a 4 × 10 cab for that much.

That's your classic guitar band gigging rig.

Headwise I'd be looking for a second hand Hartke (which will weigh as much as a small house by the way), which should leave you plenty of change for a decent second hand cab.

Originally the minority (black music) or whatever that is, has def become the majority in music today. Which I think Is good. But I think, like everything in life there some balance to be had. I think that's what Prince and his recruitment of band members was nodding at.Black, White Female, Male etc. . He cared because of the multi image he wanted to put across that music is equal.

You need saw any ugly people in Prince's bands though.

In an audition situation that would have ruled me out of the running even before he realised that my playing is not up to the required standard.

I've always been slightly uncomfortable about the MOBO awards. Is there a MOWO awards?
    [/quote]

The name of the Mobo awards is a bit misleading in that it's a celebration of certain genres of music rather than an awards based on the ethnicity of the performers - there have been plenty of non-black Mobo winners.

It's not really any different in intent than the British Country Awards or the Radio 2 Folk Awards.

The 20 year old is better in what way?

And I'm certainly not going to take sides with 20 years of experience.

Playing for 20 years means nothing to me. It could mean 20 years of laziness, floating in and out of one band to another and generally being a pain in the arse.

Many of you are well aware of these types of "20 years experience" guys.

    Just making a point.

I think we're both making the same point.

Enthusiasm and raw natural talent can be more fun to play alongside than the guy who's been plodding along in the same rut for years.

Alanah Miles' Black Velvet has some rasty playing on it FWIW

Apparenty that one was recorded on a synth.

I was completely oblivious of that for years until I read it on here a while ago.

Sorted. Mr Andyjr1515 is taking it to be lightened and veneered. Have a feeling its going to look superb.

    Now that's a major result.

Love Andy's work. The man's an artist.
