I was going to post some stuff from Guru's seminal Jazzmataz album,, particularly 'le bien, le mal' with French rapper MC Solaar, but the songs I wanted appear to have been taken off youtube.

Well worth checking out if you can find a copy or stream.

Funny that, because I've always thought they were pretty terrible, relative to their other productions.
The 'sound like' series with Bea and Matt, and the Guitar paradiso one with Danish Pete and Mick (not that one) Taylor are excellent. Something about the chemistry between Nathan and Lee just not being there.

I think they've improved a bit recently, it's not quite the Top Gear for guitars that the Chappers and The Captain vids evolved into, but it's getting there.

  3. I was quite impressed with my brother-in-law's harley benton acoustic but I don't think you'd be able to hear it acoustically in a live situation with even one unplugged acoustic guitar and certainly not against an accordion.

I've always loved the Kramer headstock too, one of my favourites.

    It's a minimalist classic.

Nice basses too, I came within a whisker of buying one in the early 90s.

Well, the marlin sidewinder wasn't so bad!
    [/quote]

I've always believed that in every production run there are a few really bad instruments due to everyone on the production line having a really bad day, and a handful of exceptional ones, when everyone had a really good day.

You must have had experience with an exceptional Sidewinder, because every Marlin I played in the late 80s/early 90s was horrible.

Where have all the Carlsboro amps gone? They never seemed to go wrong so they must still be around, they sounded OK and were not overly heavy, Westone Thunder 1/1a through a Carlsboro amp seems to be a bit of a classic starter package of the 80's

I've still got a Carlsbro 4 × 10 from my first 'proper' rig living at my parents house (somehow I've always forgotten to pick the massive, space consuming thing up in the last 20 odd years).

I assume it still works, it's built like and weighs as much as small tank.

Hi George here is my addition to your thread. It's with my Alembic series II 5 stringer playing What is Hip? at a gig at the end of 2015.
