I think they've improved a bit recently, it's not quite the Top Gear for guitars that the Chappers and The Captain vids evolved into, but it's getting there.

The trick is not to think about playing.

I can do it easily playing chords and even counter melodies on guitar, but I have real difficulties singing whilst playing even simple root note basslines.

Yep.

One of the only vintage basses I've ever lusted after.

I was quite impressed with my brother-in-law's harley benton acoustic but I don't think you'd be able to hear it acoustically in a live situation with even one unplugged acoustic guitar and certainly not against an accordion.

I've always believed that in every production run there are a few really bad instruments due to everyone on the production line having a really bad day, and a handful of exceptional ones, when everyone had a really good day.

You must have had experience with an exceptional Sidewinder, because every Marlin I played in the late 80s/early 90s was horrible.

I had a Hondo strat which I used to gig with in a dodgy indie band until I upgraded to a MiM thinline Tele. I really liked it.

Can't speak for the bass stuff though.

I thonk the first time I really noticed the bass was Duff McKagen's line on Sweet Child O Mine.

All my mates were trying to do the guitar intro, but I thought it was the bass that made that song.

I'm not too keen on the reliced versions (personal taste) but that is a real beauty.

I've still got a Carlsbro 4 × 10 from my first 'proper' rig living at my parents house (somehow I've always forgotten to pick the massive, space consuming thing up in the last 20 odd years).

I assume it still works, it's built like and weighs as much as small tank.
