I just love the Fretless Jazz; don't suppose you want to do a deal on an Ashdown ABM 500 head and ABM 1x15 compact cab?
If I had the cash I'd be straight down there in a flash!!!

I have an ABM500 plus 1x15 and 2x10 Cabs and was satisfied with the sound, mind you I am also `old school'. I have recently bought an EBS TD650 and Ampeg 4 x 10, which makes an awesome sound! However, I'm keeping the Ashdown as it also sounds great and is more portable, so I just take out what takes my fancy: EBS wins 5:1, but hey, I don't play with a rock band that often.
Oh and the Bassman you see to your left!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same with basses though; one man's meat is another man's poison! -

Thanks for the reply, makes perfect sense really, but I wanted to be sure before going ahead.
Yes the amp is solid state or mosfet to be precise, an EBS TD650 and I do have substantial cable for all connections.
The Bassman and 2 x 12 is my `intimate' gig and practice amp as it can't cope with drummer and Brass at volume.

Okay, I know it sounds daft but is there a difference in linking a mono amp to 2 cabinets by:
a) the 2 outputs on the amp to a cabinet each &
one output then linking the 2 cabinets?
And secondly
What is the most appropriate way of linking 3 x 8 Ohm cabinets to one Amp? It's designed to run at 2 Ohms there there isn't an issue there.

I have 2 Ashdown compact cabinets; 1 x 15 and 2 x 10 both with Tuff Stuff covers?

Just bought the EBS TD650 from Gary, a `sound guy' and the cabinet sounds great, might even buy it myself! So have a bump on me.

Yes I am the lucky person, and looking forward to giving it a `bleeze' as they say in the North East.

It's good this forum!
Whilst we're on the subject of valves; I have a 1976 Fender Bassman 100, I've had it checked and been told it's OK, however, it seems to lack volume and I have to run the gain fairly high when using passive basses but get a better result with active basses. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks for replying; I suppose I can change the valve to experiment, it's not expensive.

I've had my Ashdown ABM500H since 1999. It still sounds good but I was wondering if there was a rule of thumb regarding changing the pre amp valve? I was reading about the EBS td650 which recommends changing the pre amp valve every 12 months!

I use Elxirs on all my basses, I play 2 x 5 strings and 2 x 4 strings, not at the same time! They are expensive initially but do last a lot longer and I don't spend as much on strings as I used to.

Thanks for the advice, thankfully I live close do a guy who is wise in `all things valve' and will ask him to look at the amp and make any modifications. I'm not even sure if I'll use it, the bone player in the band had it `lying about' in his garage and just wanted to give it a home.

Just reading the thread about valve amps which reminded me, I was given a Simms Watt 100 head, hugh thing. But it didn't have the power lead, which is a round three pin affair, anyone know where I can get one?

Wilkinsons do a black rubber matting that can be cut to any size, I think it was developed to stop thingsa from sliding on trays etc. I use it with a gaffer tape roll to stop my drink from falling off, but I'm sure it'll work with an Amp.

I've got a 1964 Fender Bassman 50 which has the gold thread grille cloth; does anyone know where I can buy matching cloth for my 2 x 12 cabinet. So far all I can find is the silver thread, which just doesn't quite look right.
The photo left is of my Fender Bassman 100 with 2 x 12 cab.

Thanks for all your positive comments; I'm really converted to 5 strings and don't play the 4's as much as I should. At one point I thought about selling them, but, as you probably know they're hard to part with.
The Bassman 100 Head is a 76/77 and i bought it from Mansons (I have a 64 Blackface 50 as well) and the cabinet was made by Torres, although the Fender logo was added by myself. It's not a loud rig but has a great tone. I'm considering getting another cabinet and running the 100 and 50 together!

TRADED Spector NS JH5 String: £800 sale / trade

I've got a Spector NS JH5 String: Serial No.209; Spalted Maple 0n Mahogany. A Nice bass but the string spacing is too narrow for me, I'm used to the Wal and Fender Jazzes!
The bass is a USA bolt-on and was made on 31.04.2005 and I bought it new. I'm not sure what it's worth so make me an offer, I'm also open to trades, specifically interested in 35" scale Jazz 5 strings, or 4x10 4ohm light weight cabinet
I'm looking at a Ken Smith Jazz therefore I need £800 for the Spector.
