  1. Having just bought a lightweight Cab I need to move some of my cabinets; I don't need / want to sell everything so I'll see what the interest is:

Ampeg 4x10HE 8ohm 500 watt cabinet, good nick with the usual gig scrapes: £250

    Ashdown 2 x 10 & 1 x 15 Compact Cabs both are the old style 8ohm / 400 wattt and come with `Tuff Stuff' Padded Covers: £150 each?

Feel free to make me an offer, you can find me 14 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne.

  2. Alas Arthur (yes he does look like Mike Harding) left the Band a long while ago, started a Band called East Bay with the impressive Dave Riddell on Bass.

Nope I'm not an Alan, names Ian but everyone knows me as Charla: It's Spanish for talk or chat, which is what happens when I drink too much of Mr Daniel's golden nectar, but the name goes way back into the Dark Ages!

  3. Ah well there's a question:

I'm the proud owner of an EBS td650, and love it, it's heavy but worth every ounce.

As for Bands, I'm a bit greedy: up until last year my main band, Alive and Kicking, hadn't been working for over a year, so I joined two other Bands to keep me occupied; The Fabulous Balls Brothers and All Shine No Shoes. So now I find myself in three Bands and still don't play every weekend.

Previous bands have been The Fabulous Road Runners and the Rhythm Method.

Frankly I was disappointed not to get the call to play with The Who or The Rolling Stones, but my Psychiatrist says that treatment is helping with my delusional thoughts!

NB I do not accept responsibility of any of the Band Names

  4. But what about the Dr Bass Cabs?

Well you'll be pleased to know (or not as the case may be) that I've taken the plunge and ordered the cab.

Now I've just got to decide whether to keep my Ampeg 4 x 10 HE / Ashdown ABM 115 and ABM 2 x 10 compact Cabs?

I also have an Ashdown ABM 500 amp, so if anyone wants a rig, just drop me a PM

  5. And guitarists and drummers, Bubbles can be a bit of a Ashington musos gig!

I'll bring my wife to meet Mr Warwickhunt, fortunately she's not from Bedlington or Blyth, and she has a good sense of humour (or does she?).

    Hope to see you there?

  6. Thanks for your responses, really useful and they are helping me make a decision.

Marcus, I live in Bedlington (someone has to!) and will try to get to Bubbles on Saturday, can't miss me, I'm the big bloke with beard and glasses!!!

  7. After being a 4 x 10 man for some while I'm on the verge of buying a Dr Bass 2460 cab. Does anyone have experience of these cabs and what are your thoughts?

  8. I've been away for a few days and have just seen the replies and appreciate the support given by fellow bassists.

Sorry about the confusion, but I was referring to the Fender Marcus Miller 5 string, I feel a bit of a dork for not making this clear in my first post, Doh!

However, I am seriously considering the East pre amp, I don't know if other owners of these basses find them noisy in certain situations but I've just got to make a change. I had the bass checked by my local tech (I live just around the corner to Jez Arkless, the man in the North East to see if you want your valve amps repaired) and he said it was okay, but at certain gigs it clicks and hums!

  9. I have a MM 5 String and I'm thinking about installing the MM East preamp, the main reason being the the Fender Pre can be noisy and is susceptible to picking up `bad earth' noise at certain gigs.

Can anyone comment on the MM East pre as compared with the Fender?

  10. The Ampeg and an ABM 1 x 15 are posted in the Amp & Cabs threads, not a sniff, which is why I was thinking of modding the Ampeg. I was looking to buy one of the Epifani UL310's that were for sale on this site with the proceeds, they've gone now! It's a dilemma as i want something light weight but can't afford to have 4 cabs lying around the house!

Thanks for the advice, I'll think long and hard before making a decision.

  11. I have an Ampeg SVT 410HE and I'm thinking of replacing the speakers with Neodymium Drivers. Ampeg suggest Eminence speakers, but there's a choice of 4 choices; Deltalite II 2510 250W 10"; Basslite S2010 10"; Basslite CA2010; Basslite CH2010 10"?

If I'm going to spend over £200 on speakers I want to make sure I get the right ones!!

  12. I have the same cabinet; it sounds awesome with my EBS TD650, but with my Ashdown ABM 500 it does sound quiet compared to using either my 1 x 15 or 2 x 10 Ashdown 8 ohms cabs! I can't explain why. I'm thinking of buying some Neodymium speakers and making my Ampeg a 4 ohms cabinet, which should make the ABM louder. Mind you since getting the EBS it has gone into semi-retirement, rehearsals only.

  13. Just bought a Fender Japan Jazz Fretless from Mike (ChampionBadger). A sound bloke to do business with; kept me informed about the sale, arranged a swift delivery and the bass arrived safe & sound having been packed in a hard case and cardboard box.

  14. Mike

Not sure if I've done this right but it's 10mm at the nut & 16mm at the bridge. My 5 string Jazz is 11mm at the nut & 19mm at the bridge.

I only know that for some reason I find the Jazz much easier to play. I suppose years of playing the Jazz has something to do with it. Saying that the Spector has been my main giging bass since I bought it in 2002! I probably just at an `awkward age', mind you my wife says I was born awkward in that I like getting new toys.

I see you have a Ken Smith 6 string, I'm interested in the KSD Jazz 5 and would appreciate your views.

    Cheers
