  1. Thanks for the replies. Yes indeed it is difficult finding something appropriate. I can get a case from Gibson for the princely sum of £259, against the Gator iat £170! Can't see any pre owned for sale at the moment.

I got into short scale basses about five years ago after a tendon issue affected my playing. Since then I've started to love playing short scales and have a Supro Huntington, Sandberg Lionel and the Gibson SG. I fully agree with your views re Gibson design and build, but then again I do love the sound and playability of the SG Bass especially with a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt Flatwound Super Slinky 45-100 strings. I bought the Gibson pre used, hence the rectangular case, as I would have preferred the shaped case.

  2. Hello

Having just acquired a CTM 30 to use as a practice amp (not sure the neighbours are appreciative?) the VU light seems to have dimmed with a darker part running across the centre (photo attached). When looking through the vents into the amp the VU seems have plenty of light around it. My question is is this normal or has the a lamp blown? I know VU lamp failure is fairly common with Ashdown amps and it's a purely cosmetic issue as the amp is working well; much louder than I anticipated.

  3. Just bought Phil's Ashdown CTM 30: we did FaceTime so that I could see the amp and ask some questions, and agreed to meet to save me driving through his home town. Honest description and easy transaction, I'd happily buy from Phil in the future.

Why not fit another strap button to the heel or side of the neck? Then you can carry on using your Schallers.

Hello Pete, that idea would work but I'm not keen on drilling into the bass which is a 2013 Gibson Memphis ES-335.

I have a couple of Dunlop type straplocks you can have if you PM me your address.

No longer need them as I have a massively thick leather strap.

Hello Richard, thanks for the ofrer but the bass has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish and I found these pushed the strap against the body and removed the lacquer.

This is what I was told when I posted my experiences on here after the lock mechanism failed, and AFAICS there was no way of repairing it.

In my case I simply replaced both Dunlops with Schaller StrapLocks. Incidentally this was on a semi-hollow bass (MiK Warwick StarBass II) and I never had any problems with the Schaller locks buttons getting in the way or being uncomfortable.

I'm a rather portly chap and the button sticks into my stomach and even gets caught in my shirt!

  7. I appreciate the replies.

I've had a look at the Dunlop's and they seem to protrude some distance from the body, but the large diameter of the strap button seems good. Not sure I'm reassured by the mechanism fail, nervous is not good! I've also looked at the D'Addario, which looks neat, anyone got any experience?

  8. Hello

I use Schaller strap locks on my basses, however, I have a semi acoustic bass which has the strap pin on the back of the body and I find the Shaller uncomfortable against my body. I've tried the rubber / plastic strap locks, but they are tight and have marked the body. I'm looking for something which will be secure but with a lower profile than the Schaller, so any input re suitable strap locks will be appreciated?

  9. I bought an EBS HD350 from Barry, straightforward transaction, promptly posted with no hassle. Never met him but from this deal and his comms he sounds like a good guy, must say that I've always had a positive experience when buying/selling on Basschat.

Thanks again Barry, I like mu Reidmar but it's good to have some good old EBS heft back again!

That's brilliant and very much appreciated. The Tech thought it was a pre amp problem but said the Eden wasn't straightforward to reverse engineer and didn't want to waste my money. Looking forward to taking the Eden out once it's sorted.

You've made me a happy chap and once again Basschat comes to the rescue.

    Double Cheers

  11. I have an Eden wt405 which has developed an intermittent fault. I took it to my local Tech who contacted Marshall as per the Eden website advice and was advised that they didn't have a schematic for the wt405, apparently it's too old (made in 2005). Just wondered if anyone on here has one, or can find a link as I'm otherwise left with an amp I can't trust to gig.

    Cheers
