I had a HD500X before the Helix. For pub gigs there's not all that much in the tone really but the Helix is massively more usable - Scribble Strips, Snapshots... make a big difference. For my use the quality in sounds is less important.

I have all of my pedals out on the floor at the moment trying to decide what's going to be the best option. Do I really need the LT? - well, I would LOVE to get a pair of FR800's and the LT. That would be me done really I suppose (love that volume control on the top panel!!) - but that purchase is going to be a very, very distant dream!

I'd love to compare a Helix LT against my HD500x.

Have you tried STATUS? I don't personally like there strings but you might and I think they do custom sets or maybe Pm our very own dood I think he gets strings made up for his 7 string

I think Status have stopped doing Flat & Halfwound !!! Which is a crying shame (their old halfs were great!!!)

  4. Oh that's good to hear, the website makes it sound complicated (I didn't read all the blurb) I was worried it sounded like a complete reset was needed! (If You do that to a HD500 You have to reprogram the ex-pedal, etc.)

If it can do the different output to XLR or Jack (amp sims to PA not monitor) then I am starting saving!!

I paid £200 each for my secondhand Rickenbacker 4001's in 1980/81, one of them was a checkerbound/horseshoe/toaster pickup model. In the mid 80s I nearly bought a mint condition used Wal twin neck with case in a music shop in Birmingham for £399.
That's what the prices were back then, comparing them to what the same things sell for now is just masochistic.

To put things in perspective though we bought (mortgaged) a new 3 bed house in 1981 for 11 grand!!

Nice nostalgia though Steve -- Bass Centre was cool back then!?
