Sorry, he didn't mention why a 6 string. Can only assume it's for Gizmodrome, his new band with Adrian Belew & Stewart Copeland?

Wow just found the album launch video. Mark is playing (a 4 string) with a pick too!! IMHO He should of done this years ago!!! (joined new projects that is!)

I had an SMX preamp as part of my rig many years ago, and loved it. The flexibility was great and the dual band compressor was an excellent feature. If Trace were to build the SMX preamp features (or some of them at least) into a lightweight Class D head, I would definitely be in the market for one.

I think there are circuit diagrams on the web. It shouldn't be too hard to knock a preamp up in a stomp box.

Ironic? I could order one on ebay, include P&P, it would be marginally more expensive (by less than a pound) and it would probably arrive before the one I've had on order since March.

There would be no warranty on it though from US (I've been there and been burnt!!!)

Me too. But a bass guitar is just a musical instrument - how people choose to use it is up to them. Life's rich tapestry and all that... :)

And to Blue many electric bass players were pushing the boundaries in the 70's, starting point Colin Hodgkinson, Stanley Clark, John Entwistle, Anthony Jackson ... et. al.

Well since you've made no effort to provide any context, nobody has a clue what your criteria are. What's to stop you making exactly the same remark ad infinitum?

In fact, if I were of a cynical disposition I might start wondering whether this has anything to do with guitarists or bassists at all. I might go further and wonder whether this isn't just a pot-stirring exercise...

Valueable info, I just went to D'Addario's site and found that they indeed do .028 and .024 wound bass strings (single strings).
I wasn't aware of these. Thanks!
    [/quote]

Paul, Status do a .020 (& .025) roundwound as a single in the custom set section a their site..
