Hi, i dont know if anyone will be able to help with this but i though i would ask. Ive just been looking through bassdirect's website and one bass caught my attention, a Windmill Malin 5. Unfortunately this is the one bass where the picture will not enlarge so does anyone happen to have any more pictures of the bass. This is the page where i saw it: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...tars_Stock.html and here's the small preview: Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi for sale is my MIM Fender Jazz in white. The bass is in good condition, there are no dings or scratches aside from one scratch on the back, other than that the bass is flawless. I was going to do the bass up a little change the pickups etc, however im just about to start my degree and i could do with a few things before the course so seen as i dont need the bass im going to part with it. Im looking for £225 for the bass including postage.

Hi, ive just bought a mexican jazz bass for cheap off ebay so im looking to buy some parts and upgrade it a little. Im mainly looking for the pickups for now and ill consider any but also looking for a badass II or similar style bridge, a preamp, and a either tortoise shell or black pick guard. Sean

Hi, i havnt compared the two directly so im going to copy kev's reply to the same question if thats ok: 'the mullard is a lower gain sound than the EH, sounds far better than the EH imo, bottom end is very well defined, and its not as sparkly as the EH is, which is definatly a plus from me. the valve just has more character and every note rings crystal clear basically the best way i can describe the difference is that the EH just sounds 'cheap' next to the mullard. turning up the gain it goes into a valve distortion quite nicely, thats how im currently using it now, but i dont really need that sound, hence the sale
what's this guys? where is this great piece of equipment failing you? Just curious as Bassmankev was completely in love with it on one of the reviews and shifted it in less than a month.... Any clips available? Say on a Passive P with drive and just EQ'd....
Hi, if you go to http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/Sound.html and listen to the bass clips you'll hear what the pedal sounds like, there may not be the EQ1 but the pedal is the same as those there with the additional EQ control. I cant remember kevs reason for getting rid of the pedal, though i can see why he was in love it, i think its in his listing. The reason im selling is im doing a part ex for a fafner which has a great EQ and a tube drive function. While the drive on the pedal may be superior i cant justify going into debt for it when i could make do with the fafner's drive function. Hope this helps

Hi, ive had this for about a week having bought it from bassmankev, but ive just found out i have a little less in my bank than i thought and must sell this to go towards a part ex on a EBS Fafner. I agree totally with what kev has said about the pedal, it is a brilliant pedal but im rather against the prospect of going into debt. Here is kevs original listing and review (if he doesn't mind me using them) Listing: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry261537 Review: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21764 The pedal is in absolute mint condition. As i have only had it a week and only had a chance to use it once (due to a neighbor on nights) im asking for the same as i paid £110 shipped. This includes both the Mullard and Electro Harmonix Tubes.
Mine will have a dark top but its still being made! I'm not sure half built basses count
If the top is in the first half they certainly do

ok, thanks again, how much would the work you previously stated cost then to have done and can you say in detail what has to be done, i think ill keep the topic here, after five hours the ive received the suggestion to use a electro harmonix hum debugger so that was a little let down from what i was expecting. Thank you for all the advice thus far

having looked through the forums on hiss and hum is there any chance the old tubes (16 years old) could be causing the hum/hiss, i was considering some mullards or telefunks anyhow so will be replacing them at some point but would like this clarified first please

anyone have the phone number or other contact details please?
I doubt it's worth attempting any major surgery such as replacing transformers (there's no audible change to using a toroidal, they just keep their electromagnetic fields to themselves better) but if some components were starting to break down (such as power supply capacitors) then that might be responsible for a lot of the noise. Whether or not it's worthwhile spending much money on (rather than saving for a replacement perhaps) is a tricky one - mainly dependant upon how much you like it and whether you know (or can find) a good amp technician to take it to...
Well it is in my opinion worth keeping, a real nice wam tone and you can really hear the tubes come through, like i say its only audible when nothing been played so it no huge problem, if it came through when playing through it it would obviously be a different matter. I went to Pete Hartley and he seampt a good tech, knew what he was talking about and was very quick so id be going back to him, like i say its a matter of price and how significant the reduction in noise would be. He also gave it a clean bill of health when he looked over it so i nothings broke and from what your saying its just from the old style transformer that im getting the nosie, so would you have a vague idea of cost? Thanks
-
Ok, well the hum is certainly not an issue when playing, but other than the reduce in hum what impact does a donut power transformer have on the sound of the amp? and how much would you guess it would be to have on fitted? Thanks Sean
Well, a quick search led me to a forum on Eden's site - here's an extract: The previous owner told me that the amp produces a noticable hum through the speaker cabinet even with the volume controls on zero. ...so perhaps that amp is known for the issue (there do seem to be a number of hits searching for "eden vt40" and "hum"). It looks quite old - has a traditional 'big square lump' power transformer rather than the 'doughnut' toroidal types you usually get nowadays (which reduce hum considerably). Might be worth getting it serviced if you want to keep it and can't put up with the noise, but I'm guessing it will never be near-silent...
