  1. I use a Zoom H4 essential for ambient these days, but i was using a cheap Behringer B-5 mic in to a small mixer before that and it worked really well. Once i had it sorted out i felt much more comfortable with IEM’s.

I guess one question is do you want stereo or mono? Personally i find stereo much more natural sounding. Even though the bass is mono it’s nice to hear a bit of spread from the room IME.

You could get a small Behringer mixer and a pair of Behringer C-2 mics for around £100.The mics even come with a mic stand holder that holds both.

  2. I've seen that video. I found it quite irritating as although it's helpful it's a bit repetitive.

When I got my first one I found it quite easy to get going with it after a few mins.

    Good luck.

Damn you @dave_bass5, having missed one here on BC I've been 'forced' to do the same; it is projected to land tomorrow.

Perhaps we can compare notes :)

I see Amazon are now quoting delivery in months. High five to us lol.

Obviously too cheap - just had my order cancelled and a full refund paid! Ah well...

Shame but that did sound a bit too good to be true.

...in fact, because of your post @dave_bass5, I've just I've seen a mint used G2-4 on Reverb at a "let's pay you to it try out" price (just £55 inc. P&P.) and couldn't resist it!

Wow, thats cheap. Let me know how it goes.

Ive had another thought about this though. My main reason in getting the B2-Four originally was a cheap way of getting a computer interface, and a BDDI. If i didnt want the BDDI i wouldn't hessite, but as the G2-four lacks this im now not so sure, as its the one FX i really do need……or maybe i dont.

  7. You know, i might go for the G2 Four instead. Much cheaper, doesnt have the extra bulk of the DI section (which i will never use). I dont need amp sims as such, but they all sound pretty close on the whole so any one will pretty much do the job ( i feel the same about the Bass versions). It does have a Bassman amp anyway so that would be fine.

    Food for thought……

Update on the power supply: finally received my power supply from Thomann..... And they've just sent me a bog standard EU>UK travel adaptor... 🤦 Not impressed, but I'll just carry on using the power supply over already been using.

Also having a problem with my B2 Four.... I just can't decide which drive sound I like best! 😅 Oh the first-world problems caused by multi effects! 🤣 Back to the drawing board shortly to try to make some decisions. I'm not as in love with the dark drive as I expected to be, although I do like the dark preamp for my Crunch sound 👌

This is putting me off ordering from Europe again. Ive got a few things that have those awful 2 pin PSU’s, and while im sure they work just as well, the extra bulk is just not welcome. Ive replaced the last two items i got from Thomanns with 3 pin version's off Amazon, but cant be bothered doing that again. Shame though as i cant really find another in stock in the UK for the price i want to pay.

My B2-Four has gone back as i believe it’s not 100% (not faulty as such, but with something moving around inside id worry something could go wrong).

Ok don't keep us in suspense Dave, what ya buying. Will we see a NBD review soon ? :tatice_03:

    Dave

Haha. No, not buying, returning. Got a B2  Four from them last week but there is something rattling inside.

That's fair Russ, but I think the counter is that sound to light can give a band some additional visual energy for the audience? No?

    Having said that:

    - lighting is a missed trick for many bands and certainly not an area of great expertise for most;

    - our lighting rigs tend to be fairly basic (and yet another thing for put upon bassplayer to have to sort!).

Yes, we are the same. Me and Dawn have to travel with my gear, the PA and all the lights, so we are limited to what we can take.
Also the stages are quite small and it’s difficult sometimes lighting is from the front, at least at head height.

Maybe try calling them. I found that works far better altho to be fair i only ever had one email not replied to over the years.

    Dave

    Cheers.
i have had a reply or two so it’s all good. I did message them on FB and they got back to my email. Seems they have just been a bit busy.

Biggest improvement would be to light the band so you can see your faces!

I know everybody has their own take on mobile, easy setup lighting... but if you flood light your band then have the other lights doing their thing, the presence of your band will be enhanced. At the moment, there's nothing different  between how you are being lit and the people on the dance floor.

(I hate sound to light lighting btw so I'm a tough crowd)

So true, but we find it very hard to light the band from the front at a lot of our gigs. Small stages are a pain.
We do use a few LED spots/ Disco type lights on the floor pointing towards us a lot of the time, but it’s not ideal.

Agreed - that's very decent image and sound quality! A 1" chip does seem to be the magic number for indoor low light gigs.

Given the cost did you consider getting something like one of the Sony a6000 series with its APS-C chip + a Rode stereo mic, which combined will be in a similar price bracket?

Here's some low light footage from our gig on Fri night for you and Russ to give some comparison of that set up - Al Krow (@al_krow) • Instagram photos and videos

I have a Canon R7 so have the ability to shoot C-log etc if i want, the point is i couldn’t give that set up to someone in the audience to use.  It’s hard enough ensuring they don’t do bloody portrait video as it is.
The OP3 is just perfect for gigs, plus it’s stabilised and no one will really nice e

    it being used.
The gig was all recorded in Logic on an iPad as a 14 track project, so the sound is covered (just need to re mix it all).
This was also the first time out with my Zoom H4e recorder, set about a foot from the snare drum. It came out very clean and had a good crisp top end without any distortion (that i can hear).

Im actually pretty impressed with that image quality. How does it do in low, low light?

Yeah, it’s not bad and seems to handle the high dynamic range ok

ill try and get some real low light footage this week.
I shot this when we were setting up. It’s a bit darker in places.
