  1. I concur with the AER, although I play a Rob Allen Mouse through mine (an AER Basic Performer) and not an upright it sounds amazing and over the years, both at small local gigs and large Jazz gigs I have noticed just how many people use them for acoustic and electric uprights.
  2. Discuss it with him, no better way than chatting with the man who made it. Mine is a fretless and I really struggle seeing the line markers on the edge of the fretboard, I’m considering luminlays but the thought of cutting into such a beautifully made instrument is disconcerting to say the least.
  3. Email Rob and ask him, I have a Mouse too and have emailed queries to him, he is most helpful. Here’s what it says in the FAQ section of Rob’s website on this very subject... Can I add a magnetic pickup to my bass? this is possible in theory, but not practical or cost effective. The work for this needs to be done at an earlier stage in the construction of the instrument. In addition, special electronics are needed that can blend a magnetic pickup with a piezo. If a highly skilled repairman wants to do this work it can be done, but I do not offer this work as a modification.
  4. As I’ve still not found the perfect (or even near perfect) electric bass yet I’ve looked at some of these basses with some interest for some while now and guess what? Not looking at them anymore.
  5. Mind boggling and just, I dunno , too brilliant to put into words...
  6. What a great bass player, as they always are with NMA.
  7. Just watching Suzanne Ciani performing Improvisation on 4 Sequeces on the BBC Proms, mesmerising and just so good...
  8. I’m a huge electronica fan, always have been. Just yesterday I was listening to the first two Human League albums, they’ve never been topped imho. Metamatic by John Foxx today.
  9. Exactly. I used Laney almost exclusively with a thrash band I was in, 500w head 1x15, 4x10 and a Stingray, great sound. I hammered that gear, volume and transit wise, it never let me down.
  10. Yes, obviously, but that’s a subjective matter... obviously.
  11. Paul Gardiner was a bass player who played great song serving lines in my humble opinion, personally I don’t think there’s a bigger compliment than what you played served the song.
  12. Hate is a strong word but in this case it applies... 😁
  13. Having spent a week or two trying to get to grips with the atonal insanity of Stan Kenton’s City of Glass... ...I was happy to hear the iPod re-establish a modicum of straight-up sense by randomly selecting Back in Black, what a killer track...
  14. A list... Three words currently being woefully misused... a) Iconic b) Literally c) Decimated I also abhor High Rising Terminal, obviously. One more thing that really grinds my gears is the current trend of beginning an answer to a question with a drawn out “So...” or, particularly prevalent at the moment amongst politicians (I think I remember Tony Blair starting this) starting the answer to a question with “Look...”, a confrontational beginning to an answer that invariably avoids the initial question.
  15. If you don’t mind me asking, what’s a technical punk band?
  16. Is that The Wimpy? What did you expect..? 😁
  17. I just purchased (this morning) a Petersen Stroboclip HD. So far pretty impressed.
  18. Ha! They are great! Thanks for this, so refreshing.
  19. Sounds like a reasonable Saturday night, no?
