1.
Relax. People love live music and they will forgive slip-ups because that is what makes it live. My first gig was in a maximum security prison. How I wish we could've had alcohol!
Aye - and our opener was All Along The Watchtower. Seriously!
2. OK leftybassman392 - you are right. I changed the goalposts. You get first prize. First prize = a Wal bass. Second prize = two Wal basses!

4.
Ooooh! Ooooh! Ooooh! I know this one... One's a bass guitar and the other's a table! Is there a prize for getting this right? I do hope there's a prize...
Ah - but which is which?!?! That's the hard part.
5.
I wouldn't worry about it Bilbo, just wait until David discovers Fodera lol Si
Just did. Now need to go clean the coffee from my computer screen!
6. Thought I'd take a wee pop - time to get serious. Thanks for the input and comments. Happy for a Mod to banish this post to wherever these things get put to die. Cheers, Mac
7.
... and this is that much nicer..? Explain.
Clean, lean and organic. Understated and fluid. Projects forward. Doesn't look like it was made in Strangeways and doesn't look like a table with a big slice of veneer on top. Kind regards! Mac
8.
My 9lb 6oz of Wal loveliness. No neck dive, no neck twist and I happen to think it's a loverly bit of wood This will be my one and only contribution to this thread.
Oh - and have you ever thought about renting that space out between the p'up and neck for advertising! Seriously though - I will admit it is looking fine. But no more than that!

10. I look at Mayones, Spector, Warwick - and yes - ACG, and I see beautifully crafted instruments. I look at Wal and I see my Granny's sideboard. And I see her sideboard selling for more than the Mayones, Spectors, Warwicks and ACGs. Shurely Shum Mishtake?!?!
11. Mmmmmmm. Just found these: 1: Great bass tone{subjective of course}..wouldnt consider them the best quality..plenty of warping issues..and extremely overpriced 2: you can buy a secondhand wal tommorow..it will just cost you a bit ....and ultimately the electrics will puke and you will have one heavy passive bass that sounds like any other!! go for it. Perhaps I was wrong?........
12. Ah - I was wondering when someone would use the term Troll! Kind of word that seeks to nullify any critique via an ad hominem statement. Bit like calling someone a racist because the conversation makes you feel uncomfortable so you say what you can to nip it in the bud! Not that I am saying that is your intention. Simply an observation! Kind regards, Mac
13. Hi EssentialTension I 'get' the unique look, feel ,character, draw and appeal of things like the Alessi Juicy Salif Citrus Squeezer, the postmodern classic chaise lounge, and other classic icons of that ilk - but I think the Wal bass is a bit of an Emperor's Clothes type of situation. I appreciate that taste is personal but I can't believe they command such reverence or such an asking price. I have never heard a bad word about or against Wal basses - and that makes me ultra suspicious! Kind regards! Mac
14. Honestly - you can't spend 10 minutes on the Basses For Sale forum without someone posting an update about the latest Wal for sale and how the guitar is a 'stunning masterpiece', 'gorgeous beyond belief', and 'why did I ever sell my own one years ago?!?!' (Hint - you probably sold it because it wasn't worth keeping, or else you would still have it). 'Oh - but the intonation, the Wal growl, the tone - it is sublime!'. Eh..... this is a bit like full HD or 4K TV. Most mere mortals don't have the eyesight to discern the difference - and I would argue most listeners to Wal don't 'get' the nuances either. I also believe there is a 2 year waiting list for these (rolls eyes to ceiling). Seriously! Really! If you have too much money burning a great big hole in your pocket then go buy a couple of iWatches or something. Every - and I mean every - photo of a Wal that I have seen looks like an over-varnished by-product from a Prison Workshop. Bits of wood glued together (helps if the woods don't match - I think it is called character)), put in a vice, sanded and then varnished with a Bill Posters brush - multiple times. Not just the ones from the 80's - but the new ones as well! And don't get me started on Mick Karn and how he was the master of the fretless Wal. All Mick Karn ever did was play as Mick Karn on the fretless Wal. Even where he was guesting as part of a 'super group' type of set up for the Princes Trust or whatever - he still sounded like Mick Karn being Mick Karn playing a fretless like Mick Karn. That's not a signature tune or sound - that is someone who was incapable of playing any other way. I will never be able to play like Mick Karn, I will never have enough money to own a Wal, and I will never feel about the Wal bass the way some of you do. But I am OK with that. Wal-lovers. I'm calling you out. Let's have some grown up critique (ooh - get me, after said rant above!) about the pros and cons of the Wal and not some knee-jerk fanboy reaction everytime someone posts an image or a for sale post. Honestly - if you want a Wal. Dip your bass in Cuprinol repeatedly for 8 weeks and you'll be there Thoughts?........

16. Folks Bit of background from previous owner regarding the John East 2 Band Preamp. He ordered the bass with the filter EQ, tried it for a few months then had Alan swap with the conventional John East preamp. The JE is straightforward. It simply cuts or boost frequencies above a certain threshold for treble and below for bass, just like treble and bass on your bass amp. The filter based EQs are a bit more involved, which meant that the previous owner couldn't make meaningful adjustments to it when playing live. They could change the tone radically quite easily and this didn't suit the previous owner. Hope that helps clarify. David
17. Thanks for the clarification Alan - much appreciated. David
18. Hi Zawinul I'll check and get back to you with what I can regarding dimensions, sizing, etc.. If it helps it is the slimmest, fastest neck I've played - but I must also admit that my experience is fairly limited. It is one of the asymmetric designs whereby it is slimmed at the bottom of the neck to facilitate easier finger placement without having to arch the fretting hand as much as a standard neck profile. This helps me as I broke my left wrist last year and got back into bass as a form of physio (or so I told my wife!). Bass is not active. I am assuming that because it has no battery slot that I would be correct in this? Re: Demos. You obviously haven't heard me play! I'm rubbish! If you PM me with your email address I'll record something to my iPhone and get that to you. If it were fretted I honestly wouldn't be selling! If I could afford to get Alan Cringean to make me a new fretted neck I would, but I just couldn't justify the addition £350 over and above what I had already paid for the bass. Are you able to drop by to play test the guitar? I am based in Glasgow. David
