Cheers karl yeah the single obc112 is great but for the bigger venues I imagine will struggle on its own. i did a show gig (big stage and house pa, small theatre size) and it just about coped as an on sound stage rig (for the band to hear rather than the venue)…. it just got a bit lost with the size of the stage /venue , the bottom end kind of evaporated…. I may well keep my eye out for a 2nd obc112 but anytime in the past I’ve had a two cab rig I almost certainly never use the 2nd cab. It gathers dust, takes up space and ends up getting traded on. i wonder if the obc115, sp212 or an obc212 might cope a bit better as a single cab solution, not that the obc112 lacks anything really for most venues ….but we all like to have plenty of headroom at our disposal I guess. My heart tells me to trade the 112 for a 115 as a single can solution but my head says there can’t be that much in it between them …. mattie

  4. Yeah maybe the beeb throwing a jibe at it all, but it did make me think ….. i would very much doubt that holly johnson would approve with the notion that the whole World Cup thing had be driven by the power of love. it’s certainly clear who the hooded claw is that’s for sure. 😂👍

I’ll bet (fellow scouser) Holly Johnson, an obvious Gay icon, is absolutely livid at the use of FGTH song “the power of love” being used to sign off the World Cup, given the Arab nations views on homosexuality. i can only imagine Holly /FGTH sold the rights years ago and have no say in the matter as I can’t imagine him/them agreeing to its use at all….

I appreciate the comments here guys, and I appreciate that it’s quite hard to describe or translate , but I’m just talking about thickening up of tone, rounding off of note edges and what I think is quite obvious compression ….. maybe I’ll give some cheap pedals a go, the beringer ones are not a bad shout I guess…..
  7. Yep, another good shout… ill try and find a sh spectracomp. at one point they were quite available , cheap too, but then seemed to shoot up a bit in price ? I’ve also seen the spectra drive pedal but I don’t need any drive function and I’m happy with the simplicity of the orange LBT ‘s eq’ing….. so apart from the d.i function of it, I guess the plain spectracomp pedal would be best.
  8. Yeah I thought that to be fair… i don’t dilute the orange compressor, I quite like the amount of notable squish which kind of does what I’m talking about, that rolling off of the edges….

I guess players like Guy Pratt (floyd) might be an example? i realise he plays a lot of varied sounds , Including fretless sound but in general there is a subtle rounding off to the sound , which I think would be compression, chorus, and octave, all mild in use rather than overstated , but a quite destiguishable I guess… or if I listen to radioheads wierd fishes, the bass sound is just softened somehow, clean bass sound , no obvious “effect” as such , but no finger or fret sound, deep and plumb , but just like subtle clean bass….but some how softened a little and rounded off ? is it just compression ? t’es i appreciate that a lot of it relates to the fingers, attack etc, but I guess I’m asking are these clean sounds pure unadulterated clean signal, maybe with just mandatory compression, or are they slightly flavoured? it may well be that these guys just use clean sound and it’s just engineered magic…. But I feel there something there
  10. Thanks I’ll take a look at Amazon …. i don’t fancy a multi and deffo not anything that requires lap top for adjustments,…. my son has the zoom gt4x which is great but I deffo want simplicity
  11. Yeah I’m aware of my eq’ ing and have no issue with my sound in that sense. I think what I’m talking about is that bit extra of manipulation if the signal to round off and soften the edges. my use of a compressor helped with that which I liked and is what turned me off to thinking about other effects having never (in 30 years) having used them much. my gear/ a 76 jazz with Aguilar pups, orange little bass thing head with obc112 cab. my sound is nice n warm, but I think the use of compression, chorus (barley present in the mix) and octave (again a small amount of prescience in the mix) I THINK these things would give me that softened sound I’m pointing at ? sorry it’s hard to describe , but is what I’m suggesting fairly common in approach ? i don’t ned wsh, synth or overdriven type effects, I want to maintain a fairly b cab lean signal. moneywuse, yeah I may be wise to try cheaper clones at first (just been made redundant ) but I don’t want to be put off by inferior goods so any suggestions for cheap versions such as Behringer are welcome, thanks ill likely build a small board, power, comp, chorus, octave, tuner….. thank though guys all comments are welcomed…

Ok, I’m one of those players that’s never really used pedals. in recent years, with my tc rh450 I saw the light and understood the benefit of a compressor, and as the amp had one built in I used that. ive now switched amps and I have an orange little bass thing. the compressor built into the LBT is quite different to the tc spectracomp and not only does it seem to give a bit more “squish” it boosts the volume ? Which is strange? any hoo, that’s got me thinking about : 1)the LBT compressor , do I use it or turn it off and buy somthing like a keeley limiter which does a more traditional/transparent job of compression? I don’t mind the squish from the LBT but I’m unsure about it as it just doesn’t seem to tick the box as a transparent conpressor. 2) I play with a clean sound, I have no need at all for overdrive, distortion, synth, or “effect” of any kind….. no I just like clean deep rounded punching bass. BUT…… Im wondering if a small very subtle amount of octave and chorus might help just round off my notes a little nicer , and maybe give a more “engineered” sound than nothing at all? (if that makes sense) ? so, my question is…… is subtle use of a compressor, an octaver and a chorus pedal considered to be standard “clean tone” normal kit? i hear “real” players clean tone and there’s just something in their sound that makes me thing is not just naked bass /amp signal…. oh, and of course, now that the tC amp has gone I’ll have to get a tuner pedal too 😂 all comments and advice welcome to a pedal newb with gas.

  16. Jeepers I’ve literally just posted elsewhere about how good I find EB cobalt flats…. Honestly, 8 years my last set were on never once had any problems a deffo not rust. new sets been on 6 months now and now rust there either… maybe I got lucky? maybe they’re prone to certain types of sweat/grease etc ? strange…
  17. For bass, I only play fingers these days but in my younger days I played pick style….. Dunlop tortex green. Now Believe it or not, i actually only ever had one, plus one spare and must have played 1000 gigs with it. never lost it, never broke it. i reckon that’s quite unusual. for guitar however, my washing machine is full of them 😂👍
  18. If your a flats guy, I can’t recommend Ernie ball cobalt flats enough. perfectly balanced, great tension and just great to the touch. my last set, on a mm, 8 years. new set on my 76 jazz, sound fantastic.
  19. Surprised to not see them mentioned yet in this thread, but I use Ernie ball cobalt flats , 45-100. last set I had in for 8 years and they still sounded brilliant. I only changed them because I got it in my head one might snap during a gig just because of age…… so I changed them, and again , brilliant strings. they are really well balanced and have a great low /medium tension to the feel. They feel smooth and quick to The touch. i did use dd chromes flats for years but these cobalt flats kicked them well into touch.

What solutions are there for a carry case for the Orange little bass thing? minder they make cases for everything except this amp ? 😂 ive see the case for their pedal 100, but can’t find dimensions to say whether the little bass thing would fit? Any one know ? of have any alternative suggestions?
  22. Sounds awfully complicated, so yes I agree the old fashioned way is best. but in the absence of being able to a/b several cabs I thought I’d ask here incase there is anyone amongst us who has already been down this road

Hi folks can anyone advise me on the potential purchase of an orange cabinet….. i had an obc210 which I thought was great, but I let it go because it’s weight was an issue for me at the time. im now yearning to go back to an orange cab, got the warmth and deep width of sound, and looking at the obc112 which I understand to be significantly less in weight. but how does it compare in terms of Oomph? is the loss of size and weight notable over the obc115 or obc210? am I only going to get a decent thump out off an obc15 or obc210? Or will the 112 compete? i realise this is all subjective to your own preference and ear but I allthough i tried a 112 in a shop recently I couldn’t compare it to an older weighty 15” or 210 as they didn’t have any. that said, I know a lot of people use two obc112’s, but I only intend to use one. Anyone use one in it own or is their a reason why two is the preferred solution? i guess I’m asking is one 112 enough on its own, (small to medium size venues) or will compromising on weight mean compromising of that deep and full sound you might get from either the two older heavier cabs ? if im going to loose, I’d rather go heavy and add casters I think…to help with moving it.. should I consider the sp212 or the old isobaric jobs or is that a dead horse since the arrival of the obc112? ughhhh man I hate this. The ironly is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the tC rs450 combo I’m selling to fund the cab. I bought an orange little bass thing on a whim and decided I’d fancied a change, but stinky poo man, the tC is actually friggin great. Not really sure why I’m changing other than gas.
