The closest I can find to the MKIV & V caps are these:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexicon-Prime-Time-Replacement-slider-cap-white/274185459501?hash=item3fd6ba172d:g:XDIAAOSw7m9a~9js

Although these have the stepped down section at the back, if you trim them back they are pretty much identical to the original Trace ones. The only issue you have is trying to match years of discolouration!

Towards the end of last year I bought 2 MkV's (a 150 and 250) that are both currently still with my amp tech to sort. The 250 just in for a once over and the 150 because the preshape button doesn't actually do anything and the 'Graphic/Flat' slider won't slide all the way top to bottom.

I could ask my amp tech to advise on a suitable replacement fan for the 250 while he has mine for reference?

If you could please bud that'd be awesome. I'll get some eq caps ordered!

Have you had a look inside to see what you have already fitted?

That fan suggests it runs on US not UK voltages.

However, Google Bisonic 4E 230 b, That may well be the direct equivalent for UK voltages.

I've not looked inside. I've tried googling the Bisonic number but it doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere. Thanks @TheGreek I'll Surrey Amps a try!

  3. I'm revisiting my old TE amps as well as acquiring a new one. I've got a lovely old MK V AH250 that I want to start gigging again but the fan is really noisy. I've found a replacement in the US but I don't think they ship to the UK - it's here: https://britishaudio.com/products/trace-elliot-mark-5-120v-cooling-fan

Anyone know where I could buy an equivalent that I can get in the UK?

Also has anyone had any luck finding replacements for the whit caps on the EQ sliders?

I use one of these. Great pice of kit. GLWTS.

Me too - integral part of my board. Kick it in when Del and Pete are doing the twin lead thing - also on Jericho and Suicide for added 'grrrrrrrrrrrr'. Luvverly.

If that cab were mine, I'd be checking to see if the speaker chassis was a Precision Devices 15. Looks like it could be, from up the pic.Trace used them in the early days, Fabulous, although heavy, speaker, far superior to the standard Celestion.

I'll have a look when i dig it out of the garage. I know one of the inputs doesn't work so I 'll fix that before I flog it and check the speaker while I'm at it.

  6. Yesterday i picked up a lovely AH250 GP12 SMX. This prompted me to do some research and found some info that related to one of my other Trace heads - an AH300 GP7 SM that I picked up off here some years ago. I've used it a few times, no problems, bags of power and not too heavy.

Apparently, some of these amps have a power amp called the 'Bipolar Bear' - easy to spot as it's written on the board and has two big heatsinks that are easy to spot. Apparently this board can be troublesome and as well as being prone to failure, it can also take your speaker out in the process.

I was gonna sell this amp but I'm reluctant to pass a potential problem on to someone else, or to risk my own speakers - particularly my Barefaced Big Baby!

So - questions - there's a fix know as the Clive Button Mod which should have been applied when they went back to Trace for servicing (who does that?!). Is there an easy way to tell if this mod has been done to my amp? Could I assume that if my amp hasn't failed by now, it's not likely too and it's safe to use/sell on?

I'm reluctant to spend a fortune on the thing as it doesn't hold a huge amount of value as it is, and i have plenty of other amps . . . . . . decisions, decisions.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

I quite like the orange vinyl although I'd like it more If they'd painted over the go faster stripes in black or matching orange.

It's most likely a 1518 like one of these -

Yeah that looks like the kiddy. I'd be surprised if he got $266 for it. Trouble is with this one, the vinyl is all peeling on the back. Not very well done! Thanks for your help!

  8. I picked this up as part of a deal on an SMX AH250 head. I don't want the cab so looking to move it on. It's a Trace 1x15 that's been covered in orange vinyl to match the previous owner's Orange head. Allegedly used to belong to Toploader's bass player. A thing of beauty it is not. No horn, two jacks and xlr's on the back. Anyone know which model it is?

  9. Opened proceedings at Giants of Rock, Minehead with Stray yesterday. Nice friendly stage crew and a fabulous crowd. Used my Bugera Veyron Tube again and loved it. Decent monitor mix and a great craic afterwards. Was a bit disappointed with Hawkind, who were one of my old all time favourite bands but loved The Quireboys - first time I've seen them.

yes I know the Stray bass player is here.

I also know the Procol guitar player quite well, it was him that told me about procol cancelling.

They haven't really replaced the cancelled acts with anything nearly as good

Stray bass here. No, no info other than what's been touted on the Facebook page. Looking forward to opening on Saturday on Reds. We were actually offered the closing slot on Sunday when Gun pulled out but that made it awkward for a couple of our members. Really looking forward to watching Hawkwind, just a shame they're a direct clash with Diamond Head who I used to quite like back in the day.

I used to think Ashdown amps lacked volume but learnt how to use them and would say there are a couple of things to consider:

    1. The Deep switch will suck power into producing low frequencies. This is a similar thing to the Shape button on the ABM

    2. It’s not clear from the pic or your description if the Sub Harmonic is switched in, but if it is in it is being pushed quite a lot and will also suck power.

I’d be inclined to reset everything back to noon on the EQ, switch out anything like the Deep and Sub buttons and start from there. Cut the bass control, boost the mids and don’t be scared to drive the preamp hard with the Gain control. See how you get on with that :)

Thanks Merton. The sub harmonic generator wasn't switched in but the deep switch was. I've messed about at home with the pre and found I could drive it a bit harder than I was before it clips. I won't be using it on Saturday but will prob take it to a couple of dates on our Feb tour to see how I get on!

sorry , but that’s a wee bit naff for my liking 🙄, valve heads sound great , no need for go-faster stripes. I suppose the Bugera has an outlandish power rating to match. Enough to power a small house 😂😂. Just opinions mind 😉

Despite the power rating claims - and that's been done to death elsewhere, make no mistake that these are bloody loud amps. I'm using mine regularly with Stray who aren't exactly a quiet bunch of shrinking violets, and the volume on tap is ample.

So the middle mid frequency on yours would be 400? Is that right?

    600. It's 220, 600 and 2.5 khz on the valve one. And I'm already pushing the mids a bit on my VT Bass pedal. It obviously depends what you're aiming for. I'm looking for a big old school overdriven valve amp sound without the faff!
