1.
Ah, sorry I didn't see the bit about medium scale. I don't know, would it ?
To quote Andrew from D'Addario:
One thing to bear in mind is that the only reason you would want to avoid long scale sets on a medium scale bass is to ensure the low strings will wind correctly round the tuners. All of our bass strings are built the same length, we just taper earlier on the medium and short scale sets. If you want to increase the gauge of the G you could get away with using a heavier gauge long scale single
Andrew from D'Addario mentioned that I could get away with long scale on the high strings but the low may not be able to wrap around the tuners.
 3.
Amazon do singles. I'm sure strings direct do too, just select singles, rather than sets.
I've tried Strings Direct but they didn't have what I need. I think the combination of medium scale/flatwounds/irregular gauges makes it rather tricky. Looking through Amazon I can't see anything there either. Perhaps I just need to settle for something else.
 4.
Strings Direct do single bass strings. You won't find them listed on their site but if you Google single bass guitar strings, you get some links.
They were my first port of call but unfortunately they couldn't help. All they had was string sets.
Flatwounds, they are much tighter feeling than rounds so it's normal to step down a gauge. But yours are very strange to start with - it's common to have heavier strings on the bottom for drop D etc, but not on the top! What tuning are you using? I have heard of people getting custom sets from LaBella before, so I'd try contacting them directly, unless you have another brand of flats in mind (in which case contact them!).
I'm using regular tuning. It's so I get a fatter high when playing up top. It's pretty much a Peter Hook thing really. After searching around for an age La Bella were the only ones that could help. I ordered exactly what I needed but it turned out that one of the strings was out of stock. I've been waiting for a week so I imagine at some point soon my order will be cancelled when they realise that they can't find one. Which will be just my luck.
D'Addario will do singles; you just need to find a shop who will order them for you.
Andrew from D'Addario contacted me directly after seeing my original post here but unfortunately they didn't have what I wanted either.
 5. MAG 115 SLIM Cab Toneman 115 Deep cab I will be buying either one of these two cabs, but I'm not fully sure of the differences. I contacted Ashdown and they told me the following:
"The pmt one is thinner and lighter that's it The thomann one is deeper little more bottom but less percussive"
Other than the differences in size all I have to go on there is that the Deep cab has more bottom but is less percussive. I'm not totally sure how I should be understanding the less percussive description. I think I perhaps need someone to explain that to me using layman's terms. Also, does more bottom mean that is has more room for the lows?
 6. From looking at their sites it seems that they only offer two sets for medium scale flats. I'll contact them and see what they say.
 7. I have recently acquired a Yamaha BBVIs which is of a medium scale. The strings I have on my other basses are D'Addario pro steels but with a very specific gauge selection (60, 65, 80, 105). With this new bass I decided that I'd have something different with flatwounds but was quite keen to keep the usual gauges. Usually I would go with Strings Direct but they tell me that all they have is black nylon flatwounds in a similar gauge. Anybody know of somewhere I could get singles from? Or do I need to go for something more regular in gauge?
 8.
The MAG115 (slim) cabs are still around. They come up second hand. However, as Ashdown are now on to the Rootmaster series, stores with the older MAG series will/are selling the MAGs new for about the same as you can get them used. PMT have one in stock. http://www.pmtonline...im-bass-cabinet
Nice, very useful. Thanks for that. ------------------------------------- Is it not possible to know what the overall wattage is when adding a cab?
 9. This may sound odd.. but I'm not even all that sure if I do like the sound of it. I've only ever used Ashdowns, other than a TC 250w combo that I know I didn't like. To me it's just my default sound at this point.
 10. To be a littler clearer on my situation.. I have been in rehearsal rooms for the past year which were a pay per session where everything could be supplied. I have recently moved into my own rehearsal space so everything now needs to be supplied by the band. The stereo jack won't be going into a desk but instead it'll be going into some kind of recording device. I can't really remember exactly what it is because the drummer deals with all of that. But all I know is that it needs a stereo jack for his end and a D.I at my end.
 11.
Your combo and that cab seem to be discontinued, so you might have to go for the ABM 115H EVO IV.
Ah okay, with my lack of knowledge I couldn't really work out if that was solely for the ABM heads or not.
 12. This is the extension cab it seems.
 13. I managed to find a manual online. "A balanced d.I. Is provided on the front panel xlr socket. This provides a post E.Q. Post effects signal. The output signal from this xlr socket is set to a level and impedance suitable for connecting directly into a balanced microphone input of a mixing desk for either direct injection into the pa system or for recording."
 14. Thanks for all the replies. Given me lots to think about. I will definitely have a fiddle with lowering the input more and increasing the output. Maybe I'm just not used to using it in a live setting.
 15. Recently, I moved into a rehearsal room where my gear is now housed permanently. I have an Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO III that until now has been sat next to my armchair since I bought it new, so it's in mint condition. I have been renting amps in rehearsal rooms so my Ashdown has purely been used for home practice. The first session in the new room was with my Ashdown. It was certainly able to cut through (wall of sound reverb guitar + hard hitting drums) so hearing it wasn't a problem. I was a bit concerned that the amp may now be expected to work mega hard and become run down. This may have been because I was watching the VU meter and seeing it spike into the red too often. Something I have not been used to. Would it be sensible to get something with much more head room? I am at the stage where everything I now have is gig worthy, other than my amp. Is it time to move up and get a head + cab set-up? Or am I being too delicate with the Ashdown and really it's more than up to being thrashed around?
 16. I have been asked to supply a lead for recording in a rehearsal room whilst jamming. "XLR to stereo jack microphone leads" I'm not too sure what it is that I need and that's all I've been told. Is XLR the same as D.I.? Is stereo jack the 6.35mm?
 17.
the noise with the jazz pickup, and not the P, could be related to 60 cycle hum? and as for feedback when turning on the wren and cuff, how close were you stood to that ampeg and two cabs setup - I would expect lots of feedback stepping on a muff and being within a couple of metres of that rig!
I was a decent distance away really. My lead is 3m and it was pretty much fully extended. I have no idea what 60 cycle hum is, but I shall have a search around to learn more.
 18. So I could free up some space by using a daisy chain to power all of them as opposed to the Distributor going into two Isolators and a Doubler. At present I only have one space left to power a pedal, but if I'm understanding correctly then using the daisy chain will give me three extra.
 19.
The doubler isolates your compressor. For the rest of them Gigrig do an Isolator. Isolated power supplies separate all the outputs of a supply so they are not all interfering with eachother. The distributors are basically daisy chains (although they are nice and neat). In my system i run my generator via a daisy chain into 3 isolators, a supernova, an evenflo adapters and a distributor (some pedals don't really like isolated outputs, but it's best to isolate if you can).
Ah, that was a huge help. I actually have Isolators. My Generator powers a Distributor, and the two Isolators come from the Distributor. I have just looked and my fuzz was coming directly from the Distributor as the Isolators are full. This was different from when I used it last as I changed my layout slightly. Using the isolator with the fuzz will certainly help then. Just so I understand.. Your Generator powers multiple things as opposed to just powering the Distributor? If so, do your Isolators not hook up with your Distributor at all?
 20. Some added information to help you help me: My Empress Compressor was actually set with everything at 12. The issue was the same when using 2:1, 4:1 and 10:1. To power my board I use a GigRig Generator with Distributors and a Doubler for my Empress. I'm not entirely understanding what an isolated power supply is, but perhaps I'm already using one? A noise gate is something I know nothing about so thanks for giving me a lead on learning something new. I shall look into that right away. (EDIT: I had totally forgotten about the pickup thing too. I have a P/J and when I switched to anything that involved my bridge pickup it gave unwanted feedback)
 21. I was in a different rehearsal room yesterday and used their amp. It was an Ampeg head with two Ampeg cabs. I don't know the actual model but I could work it out if need be. There probably isn't much chance of me using it again as I am moving into a residency on Friday but I would like to learn about why this happened and how I could maybe avoid it in the future. Two pedals were causing quite a bit of noise when activated and it was highly frustrating. One of them was an Empress Compressor that gave off a lot of white noise. It wasn't all that noticeable when playing though, especially given that it's an always on pedal for me. Then there was a Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie fuzz that was insanely loud. If I activated it there would be all sorts of feedback and unwanted noise coming from the amp. After I have finished my pedal board, which is very close to being completed (if that's even possible!), I'll be needing to learn a lot about amps so anything you could suggest or inform me of would be great. Is there something I have been missing? Something I should be doing? (EDIT: I had totally forgotten about the pickup thing too. I have a P/J and when I switched to anything that involved my bridge pickup it gave unwanted feedback)
 22. I recently made a purchase from Nick and it was speedy and seamless. Great comms throughout and seems like a top chap. Thanks very much, Nick. I'd happily do business with you again.
 23. Do you happen to have a pic or link to the Bass Pod? I have had a look online but there seems to be a few possibilities and I'm not sure which it is.
 24. EHX The Clone Theory. I like using it with an 80ms delay and the tremolo function comes in handy when I use reverse reverb.
