I will soon be emigrating to the US and I have no real idea as to the best way to transport my basses. I've decided to sell or leave behind three of them and take the remaining three with me in some way. At first I thought that shipping all of my belongings by sea would be the best way but that now seems to be way too expensive. It would also take a very long time, although I wasn't massively bothered by that as long as everything turned up. From the parcel shipping sites I've looked at the prices to send three basses seems to be fairly high too. So I'm now getting a tad anxious as to what to do. Anybody have any ideas as to shipping to the US?

I have been waiting for this new range to appear for quite some time but thankfully I don't feel the need to buy one. I find that they give me the feeling of being a cheaper version of what is already out there. The difference from a BB2024 to these new ones is like the difference between a BB1200 and a BB1000. That could all change once I play one though. And in fairness I have only watched the videos on the Yamaha site as opposed to any of the others mentioned. I'll be very interested to hear their pricing on this series.

The primary use for it would be when I'm alone so less inputs would be fine most of the time. When with others it would probably be just two people at any one time, as opposed to our larger setup in the rehearsal room that uses something more akin to Dad3353's suggestion. Ideally, having two headphone outputs with individual volumes would be great.

The Focusrite 6i6 is the one I've been looking at most. So the bass can't directly go into a line input, but if it first goes through a preamp then that's okay? What kind of connection would need to come from the preamp? Just a regular jack? Does a condenser mic only need one input?

Does that mean that it'll all be in one block as opposed to separate tracks?

The reason for needing to have the ability to record them all at the same time is because I often jam stuff out and from improvisations come ideas for tracks. It's used as a reference so people don't forget what it was that they did. This is especially useful if it's a very long session. Once arranged, though, it will be lay down in individual tracks.

I should have pointed out that it's highly possible I could find myself in a situation where I'll need to use a mic, synth and bass/guitar at the same time.

There's not a problem with latency when using USB 2.0 speeds?

I'm in the fairly early stages of researching my first recording set-up. I will be requiring an audio interface, monitors and a DAW. I have noticed that there are USB, firewire and thunderbolt interfaces. As I have a PC I wish to go with a USB audio interface but I'm not sure as to how it is connected. The Focusrite range have caught my eye but they have a USB 2.0 connector. Does this mean the other end that connects to the PC is also a USB 2.0? Or can it be a 3.0? My PC runs Windows 10, 64bit and has 8gb of RAM. From what I have read in the beginners guide this is perfectly fine.

I took your advice and bought a Gotoh bridge. Not unpackaged it yet as I'll be taking it to a luthiers to strip and re-finish. I'm not sure what was meant by the "super chunky bit" appearing "mostly hollow". Another [url="http://i.imgur.com/Sqb3urX.jpg"]body shot[/url].

I found a battered Fender P in a skip in-between two old mills used for rehearsal spaces and all kinds of other creative endeavours. It's in a pretty bad way but I intend to have its body stripped and painted and to purchase new parts for it. The bridge is savable but needs new screws and pins. It's one of the 'vintage' types and I've never very much cared for them as I find them ugly and cheap looking. I intend to find a new bridge so any recommendations would be great. It only has one knob and the pickguard is pretty much unusable but all of the electrics are present. The neck seems in decent shape although in need of a thorough good clean. I plan to have a custom pickguard made using metal with a brushed satin finish or at least finished in a way that looks industrial and very much not shiny and mirror like. The shape would roughly look something like [url="http://i.imgur.com/Sqb3urX.jpg"]this[/url]. Is there are good place to have this done? Perhaps a UK based website? Is it possible to have a bridge, tuners and knobs finished in a similar way? (It's a 2008/9 MiM)

All of my vintage Yamaha BB's are reverse, yet the modern are not. I wonder why they switched from this? Would be interesting to learn why.
