1.
Same with the John East one - treble & bass on one stack, and mid frequency adjuster on the outer ring of the mid boost/cut control....
How do you find the range of adjustment on the stock pre-amp? I see you said the volume knob doesn't have a lot of adjustment in it. I've read in a few places that it's a very hot instrument, so sounds like lowering the pup is a good move.
2.
If you are serious about buying a Sub new, there is a Ray34 in black for sale on here at the moment for a great price. I used to own one and can honestly say they really are as good as the real thing. I only sold mine as I needed to fund a new amp.
I did consider that, the one with the RW board right? I would prefer maple, but it's something I'll keep in mind - I'm still not sure I need another bass!
It's a great little bass. Apart from being rather hot, have no issues with the stock electronics, it works fine with the Terror Bass which an active pad. I did try out a Stinger pre-EB style 2-band EQ, but went back to the stock one as it had more bite. I have considered the SD setup too, but am just really happy with the stock sound at the moment! Also, fitting a 3-band EQ would mean having to route a new hole for the jack socket on the side of the bass.
The SD 3 band can be had with a stacked bass & treble knob, so can be kept with the same current layout. A 2 band may be plenty for me, mind. Thanks for the good advice so far, keep the opinions coming!
3. I've mostly been playing Precisions for the last year or so, and thought I'd go for a new instrument that compliments that next time - active bass, bridge pickup, humbucker etc, and this seems to tick those boxes. I tried one in a shop last year and it felt good, but other than that I have no experience with them. Any thoughts from someone who's lived with one for a while? They look to be a bargain at that price, so I'm also wondering if the pre-amp is up to scratch. If I was to get one, should I also budget for, say, a SD Basslines pup & 3 band pre-amp? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
4. I've been tempted to get a Jazz bass, sell the neck & a maple-board Precision neck because I feel more comfortable with the slightly wider nut width. So I'd imagine comfort is a major factor, as well as changing the fingerboard type (I'd like a maple board, as most of mine are rosewood, for example).
5.
Fair play for fitting all that on a Nano, looks awesome! Si
Thanks, it was a very close fit! Was prepared to pick up a Polytune Mini just to ensure it'd all get on there.
6. Current board; Pitchblack - Demon - Rat Tail - BDPG Been running the BDPG into the power amp of my GK MB500 today, alternating between driving it with the Rat & Demon. It improves both of those pedals massively, keeping much more low end in the sound, thickening up the dirt and keeping the mids very present. So happy with this set up that I've started selling off the rest of my pedals. I'm hoping for the BDPG to be my always-on, giving me 3 distinct sounds ("clean", Rat, Demon). The only downside with it is if all 3 pedals are activated, I seem to lose a fair amount of low end, and it sounds quite thin; however, I'm sure I can play with the settings and fix that. It may even cut through the mix with no problem, anyway. I love the near-matching kid paint, too!
7. For sale: MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe, £70 posted in the UK Almost mint condition, not with original box (but will be posted in a suitable replacement), slight marks on back from velcro that was attached. Works perfectly, but after trying it a few times, I realised fuzz just isn't for me! My feedback: http://basschat.co.u...86#entry2365786 Thanks Craig
8. For sale: Fuzzrocious Demon King, £160 posted in the UK Almost mint condition, slight marks on back from velcro that was attached. Fulltone OCD clone, modified for better bass response, with gate/boost switch and momentary switched feedback loop Works perfectly, just never used the additional functions so downgraded to the smaller Demon. Great pedal! My feedback: http://basschat.co.u...86#entry2365786 Thanks Craig
9. For sale: Darkglass B3K, £155 posted in the UK Almost mint condition, with original box, slight marks on back from velcro that was attached. US version. Works perfectly, never had a problem with it. Sale due to pedalboard revamp & clearing space! My feedback: http://basschat.co.u...86#entry2365786 Thanks Craig *PRICE DROP* - seen that these are going for less new than the last time I checked, so adjusted the price accordingly
10. Like you, I play hardcore punk with a P bass, but into a GK MB500, so fairly similar setups. I currently use a Fuzzrocious Demon as my always on, and a Rat Tail for more distorted sections - both highly recommended, so much so I've ordered a BDPG too. Previously, I used a Darkglass B3K - great pedal, just not 'for me' right now. Haven't sold it yet though.. I had an ODB-3 as well, didn't like it much. Had a Turbo Rat and a Gojira Heretic (Rat clone), both worked for me but the RT is far superior. Also used an MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe and a Gojira Mammoth clone, before working out I just don't need fuzz right now (both might be up for sale soon). I've heard good things about Sansamp Bass Drivers and VT Bass, both might be great for distortion, I want to try them out but I would like to keep my Fuzzrocious board for a few months at least! EDIT: Also have a Bass Big Muff which I liked, especially the dry control, and it sounded great on recording, but I could never get it 'right' live.
11. Traded a bass with Mark, he sent it very quickly & incredibly well packaged - very easy transaction, would recommend to anyone! Thanks again mate.
