1. Trade for Rat Tail sorted subject the usual. Kid-paint Demon still available, £110 posted
2. FS - [s]Fuzzrocious Rat Tail, hand painted, with 2nd drive option - £110 posted Great condition, works perfectly - the little bit of metal that holds one of the LEDs in place is missing (didn't even notice til I decided to list them!) but makes no odds to the light, it still works & can be easily seen. 2nd pedal from left in the attached picture.[/s] - NOW SOLD Fuzzrocious Demon, kid painted, stock - £100 posted Practically mint, used it a few times live & I really like it - unfortunately I'm only using a PT Nano and trying to keep it at 3 pedals, so it's been bumped off for a Rat-type. 3rd from left in photo, between the RT & Pitchblack tuner. I'm not crazy about selling either, but I've recently dropped money on a new bass & need to pay it off soon. [s]I'll also trade either one for a Sansamp VT Bass, nothing else has really got my eye though[/s]. Feedback link in sig.
3. I'm not too worried about finding a use for every setting - more like picking one to stick with! I feel like I'm getting there, but there's a lot of choice.
4.
Hi and welcome to the G&L club! My ASAT serves me well for all occasions, anything from Ceilidhs to bass to the wall rock. It's always interesting reading how other people set up their bass but mine is always flat out with the volume/bass/treble, active, bass boost on and normally both pickups. Admittedly the gain on my amp is open by the smallest margin! It took me a while to get used to the sound of the bass but now my playing style has evolved. I have tried the m style pre on a student of mine's bass and it is more accessible, a nice modern take on the pickups, although it can overpower any amp if set up incorrectly. I'm too dyed in the wool to consider changing but for the money an m series has to be one of the best value basses out there, the 'tribute' logo has absolutely no detriment to the quality.
Yeah, this bass is phenomenally well put together for the money, it feels solid as a rock. I can only imagine how good a USA G&L is if the price jump is warranted. I've only had it a few days, and to be honest it's making me want to pick up an accompanying M2000.. gulp. Would definitely need to sell some stuff to justify that! Just gave the L2000 a blast with bridge pup solo'd, vol/bass/treble on full, in series mode, active w/out the treble boost. Woah! I couldn't try it at gig volume, but I can only imagine what it'd sound like in the mix. Without question the fullest sounding bridge pickup on any bass I've owned. It could be a while until I've stopped grinning like a cat every time I discover a new setting I like. Haven't touched my amp EQ in days..
5. Congrats! Very interesting looking bass, they've always appealed to me. Was wary of the lack of tone knob before, until I realised I never roll the tone off at all in gig situations with any passive Fenders. Would like to pick up a P with a reversed pup at some point.
6.
Yeah, getting a shottie of one does seem to be a problem. The M series more so than the L. I'd say take the plunge on a second hand one - frequently seen going for £300-£350 and that's a hell of a lot of bass for the money. Don't like it? Flip it and you won't lose much money, if any, because that seems to be the price bracket they've settled into (and haven't moved much in a couple of years). The main caveat is that if you like a skinny neck, DO NOT get a Tribute L-2000 - half baseball bat springs to mind
Its definitely chunky - 1.75" nut, thicker than my other basses front to back, and a different radius too I believe - but it's just so comfortable. I don't have big hands, and there's occasionally a bit of a stretch, but it felt like a great fit from the moment I took it out of the box. Very fast finish, too. Thanks for everyone's comments - I have a lot more playing around with it to do! Even with bass volume rolled off, and treble & bass around half, it still has balls.. I'm starting to think that live, it won't be a case of trying to sit in the mix, rather than reigning it in from smashing right through it.
7. Picked up this over the weekend, my first G&L and my first bass with an active option. Roughly 9lbs, big neck but very comfortable to play, BIG output from the humbuckers, a lot of variety in tones from the various knobs & switches as I'm sure most people know. This bass has already drastically changed the way I look at dialling in a sound. With my passive basses, it's very rare that I don't have volume & tone wide open - I learnt very quickly that way of thinking wouldn't work with this bass! The series/parallel option makes a huge difference, the tone knobs have a wide sweep in active and passive modes, and the pickups sound massive solo'd (I'm not getting quite as good a sound with both on, but haven't experimented with that a lot). I'm guessing a few people have L2000/ASAT basses - what sort of bass settings are you favouring? Any tips for getting the best out of the instrument?
8. I never had a problem with Sunbeams or Lo Riders in years of use - now I've switched to D'Addario balanced tensions, I prefer the feel (& the price). These issues do seem mostly confined to the coloured strings. There's probably a reason not a lot of companies make them. Look cool, though, especially the black ones.
9. Sounds good! Very tempted to pick up a set.
10.
There will definitely be residual stock of the artist basses with the BAII out there. I wonder whether Fender will reduce the RRP of the basses given they're now using a bridge that has previously only been offered on the entry level Modern Player series
I'm not sure they were just on the MPs - it looks like the same bridge is used on the MIA Dimension basses, too http://www.fender.com/basses/dimension-bass/american-deluxe-dimension-bass-iv-rosewood-fingerboard-cayenne-burst/ It's the same name & appearance, anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if this was there go-to Hi Mass bridge now, and they were just working through existing stock on the older models. I had a MP Jazz, and I have a Highway One with the BAII, and they seem functionally identical to me. May prefer the Fender, actually, cause I'm pretty sure they had a standard bridge saddle allen key size requirement, whereas the BAII needs a smaller key.
11.
My PJ set just arrived from the USA. Ill try and install them tonight but first impressions are, the packaging is very good, and they look very classy. The instructions seem very clear and easy to follow and its an all solder-less connection, and everything is included. Ive got a new PG for the bass, so planing on mounting as much as i can on that before starting work on the bass itself. I'd say the hardest part will be getting all the old bits out. All in they cost me £106, inc customs duty etc. I can see a Fralin going to a new home soon if things work out.
How are you finding them so far? Anyone know if these are on sale from a UK distributor yet? Keeping an eye out but haven't seen any.
12. Anyone else using one of these? Received mine last month and wow, may be my favourite ever drive pedal. I'm a Rat guy, and this is built on that circuit, apparently modelled on Voivoid's bass sound. The gain control on this is useable in every position. From light hair to super distorted grind, there's nothing that doesn't sound good. Combined with the bass & treble knobs, I've had no issue dialling in great tones. It's kicked the Rat Tail off my board for the first time in over 2 years. Plays very well in front of my BDPG, too. Downsides - the volume control being at the top of the enclosure may be weird to some people. That's really all I can think of. It may well be the best looking pedal I've owned, too. Absolute bargain at around £100 including shipping & custom charges. I'm struggling to upload a photo from my phone, will add one when I get home. Here's a stock photo: http://idiotboxeffects.bigcartel.com/product/blower-box-bass-distortion
13. I think a well-built clone with ability to run off a 9v power supply would be perfect for me. I love that RB sound, but don't want to have to use an extra power supply. The Jesus Lizard bass tone on Goat and Liar is almost perfect, would love to have that sound.
14. If it'd be always on, surely you could just EQ in more bass? Bob Weston was using an RB last time I saw Shellac, and he wasn't hurting for low end. Last few times I've imported pedals for that sort of amount, I've paid £20-£35, from memory.

16. Sold Andy a B3K, prompt payment and easy transaction, would deal with him again happily.

18. I've got a couple of Squiers that I'm considering swapping pickguard colours for, but having tried a few that I have at home (cheapo off ebay, MIM, MIA) none of them seem to quite fit - I know finding drop in replacements for them can be tricky sometimes. Which UK companies can I send the existing pickguard to, and have them make a new colour from it? Seems like this is the only way I can be sure of a good fit.
19. Bought a bass, sent quickly, easy transaction, exactly as described. Thanks!
20. Try raising the pickups, so the magnets are closer to the strings.
