Is it ok to use a ghost note to insert a 16th note rest in a fast run of notes or should  you be able to ‘feel’ the rest and leave it silent? Asking for a friend.

Well as a teacher I would say that if you’re trying to learn tricky passages with semi-quaver rests in then playing them as ghost notes first is a great way to internalise the passages and then when you’re comfortable you can just not play the ghost notes et voila :) Of course as noted it’s all very context specific so maybe you could give us some specific details ?

I am perfectly cpacble of getting it wrong, Pete. When I deceide what key signature to use, if any, it is about the chart rather tahn the song. What makes this easier ro read? It is perfectly possible that you are right and I am wrong. REading it now, it looks like there are natural accidentals on loads of Fs which would support your argument completely. I am self taught as well so absolutely fallable.

If I could humbly offer a few suggestions? Firstly great work on all these charts....there's some serious time and effort gone in here and that is excellent. I know this from all the transcriptions I've done how long it takes (http://www.dodgebass.co.uk/transcriptions-2/transcriptions) but this is not me trying to hijack your thread, rather to suggest if I may:

    1) Including chords in a transcription is really cool because it allow the reader to understand how the bass line fits against the harmony. This may also resolve / aid your issue with figuring out what key signature pieces are in...I can see you've done that for some actually but my feeling is it's really helpful for ALL charts.

    2) Consider your physical layout on the page - get rid of 'electric bass / bass' at the start of each line - we know it's a bass transcription (!). Also you can use double bar lines to show different sections (which again you do on some charts) but also consider trying to set the number of bars per line to a logical amount (e.g. 4) which in turn hopefully allows you to make different sections of the song clearer (often sections are in 8 / 12 / 16 bar sections). This allows for easy navigation by the reader - sometimes I'll even note Verse / chorus etc on the chart as well.

    3) It's often useful to include a BPM or tempo marking and if you know it perhaps style and even technical notes like use of plectrum or specific bass / strings used.

    4) See an attached transcription for what I'm trying to suggest above.

Feel free to ignore this post entirely, but hopefully this constructive feedback will be of some use to you. Good luck with it all and keep up the good work!

Hey folks, Spectrum owner here. I just messed around with the neuro app (mobile) for the first time in a while, and I found that I can access a whole bunch of c4 presets which I couldn't access before. They seem to work fine on the spectrum...!

Does anyone know if this is some kind of very cool update from Source Audio? Or am I going crazy...?

It works the other way - you can use Spectrum patches on the C4. @Quatschmacher will be able to give you proper details - he’s the guru.

  4. Doing a bit of a clear out of stuff I don't use any more - all priced to sell. Add £5 for P&P

MXR Bass comp - taken as part of a trade so not needed - £90 (with box but no instructions)

Markbass Compressore (tube) - just not for me - £90 (no box but will be well packed)

    Empress compressor - £SOLD

Dave Hall Valve pre DI - no longer being made - £SOLD

Trades - looking for a chorus pedal / flanger or 8ve pedals.

Drop me a PM - I can get these packed up and sent off very quickly.

    So pedalboard version #$%^%$##

My pedal train JNR was getting very cramped and the acquisition of some more pedals, led to an upgrade to a Classic 2. New signal chain

Custom Pedal boards mini patch bay - got fed up with plugging leads into various points,so now input/output conveniently in one place. Into-

Cali76 CB - I've tried most of them and love this for versatility while still being intuitive to use. It has fantastic natural tone, which just makes you sound better

This then goes into the main input of a Boss LS2,so all channels are massaged by the Cali76.

    Ls2 Loop A - Synth Channel

3 leaf Wonderlove envelope Filter- I'm utilising the loop in this. Effects can be put after the Filter input stage, but before the Filter. This means the dynamics of the filter are preserved. In the Filter loop is the

Cog T70 triple Octave - 3 channel octaves with its own loop. Two separated T65 octaves which ive set 1 for a clean smooth octave and another for a synthy octave up sound, utilising the filters. It has a third "sub" channel which has no clean just octave. The filters can get this fairly close to the OC2 sound. The loop on this enables "parallel" octave so any effects used have the octave clean underneath, in this loop I have

Crowther Prunes n Custard- very very dynamic and synthy fuzz

Malleko Scrutator - Bit crusher/sample rate reducer - this has a built in static low pass/Hi pass filter, which can be used with expression pedal for filter sweeps. Any control can be assigned to the expression creating very funky/electronic sounds

    Ls2 Loop B - Standalone effects

EBS Octabass- fantastic tracking and very smooth/organic sounding octaves. A nice counterpart to the synthy T70

EHX Bass Big Muff- does what it says on the Tin

MXR Bass Envelope Filter- I love this for bubbly finger funk. Does one thing very well.

MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe - fantastic warm chorus/Flanger. I have it set to affect only the high end,so subtle but a lovely sound. I particularly love the Flanger setting.

MXR EVH Phase 90- 2 x settings block and script. Block setting a bit grittier with more resonance (sounds great with the big muff) or script for smooth 70s tones.

These two banks of effects can be run parallel via the LS2 for more tonal options.

The LS2 main channel goes straight to

3 leaf Enabler - Pre amp/DI/headphone amp - primarily used was A very high quality headphone amp (with aux in). I used to have one before and used as a pre/DI on large tours/theatre pits and sound engineers always remarked on how good the DI was (not something that happens often with these guys😂) It's great for recording too, a very useful pedal.

Then back to the Mini patch bay 😁

Of those listed I only have experience of the Tonehammer, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it, it’s a great pedal if looking for more vintage style tones, such as valve warmth.

Agreed it’s a great pedal. I think you might want to think a little further on the type of sound you want as that will necessarily impact on the type of preamp you gravitate towards. A bit tubey / dirty or super clean or somewhere in between? Tone hammer does the tube thing well, MXR DI is very clean. Both great (I’ve had and used both) in the right setting....what sort of vibe are you going for? What’s your bass / string setup?

  7. Beautiful Ibanez single cut bought from the Bass Gallery earlier this year (https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/ibanez-srsc-805). Bought for £829 plus I had to buy a hardcase (£50). So for £850 included P&P get yourself a bargain.

It's a lovely bass, super low action (I"m a real stickler for this) and plays very evenly across the whole board. I just can't get away with the slightly narrower string spacing having been a Fender man all my life hence selling. Basically you're getting a lot of bass for the money and they're not that easy to come by having only been made for a short time.

Only trade I'm interested in is a Fender Jazz lined fretless. Can't add any money to the trade though so have to be straight swap or plus cash.

Any Q's drop me a PM.

I have a couple which are great and have had lots of use at home, live, and in and out of studios. I've not personally experienced any issues with reliability. They do continue to hold a charge for a few seconds after being unplugged so it's easy to zap yourself if you're in a hurry. I did manage to get a couple of more jovial colleages with them once I first figured it out- felt like a kid who'd just been to a joke shop!

I did buy a combo pack which had a daisy chain- if I can find the box I'll take a snap and post the details, so you know what you're after. Visual Sound also sell them separately, so you might be able to pick up a One Spot and daisy chain from somewhere.

In fact, give me a tick, @ped- I think I have an unused Visual Sound daisy chain tucked away somewhere...

Agreed - I’ve never had issues with them working loose either but I don’t use them live any more so not so relevant for me. The combo pack is good value.

    Great plugs - I have 2

Agreed - only thing is they’re just moulded plastic so I have broken off one of the pins which is pretty frustrating given the price of them....so just be careful if they’re in and out or sockets / gig bags etc.

  10. Ridiculous bit-crusher pedal with original box, power supply etc. In excellent condition (no scratches etc) - bit of tape on the bottom. This thing is killer, but no gigs and a need to rationalise pedal collection means it needs to go. These go for close to £300 new so this is a real bargain. Stick an 8ve pedal in front of it and BOOM! :)

    £190 incl P&P.

Might consider trades or part ex's - looking for a small footprint chorus pedal. Or a decent fretless neck.

Thanks a million for this man! The fact that you've not only spent your time on this but are so willing to share it is hugely generous and very much appreciated!

Yup. Brilliant. Just been working through it. It's all making a tiny bit more sense! :)

Start by browsing the user patches. Remember to readjust the input knob and volume knob for each one before you assess its suitability. (See the manual to see how to set the input level correctly.)

I posted some Filter Twin patches already  you can search and filter by keyword, pedal type and user so you should be able to find them. Search for C4 (with compatibility box ticked), my username and keyword “twins”.

As regards learning, I put together a patch which is set up to help users explore the features. In the patch’s description the is a link to a post on Talkbass where I wrote a mini-tutorial. I’d suggest looking through that. ( @dodge_bass, it might be worth your while too.) I can’t remember what I called the patch but it will be obvious when you see it. I’ll have a look and amend here and link to it.

Amazing - sounds great I’ll check it out. Thanks @Quatschmacher
