1.
Wouldn't pay any more than that, but not bad considering it's vintage & with the Matsumoko connection, though would expect it to be in good nick.

Not really a version of anything Gibson. They were a budget model at the time with bolt-on shortscale neck & totally hollow maple laminate body.

It's similar in construction to my Commodore, no doubt same factory...which is easy to play, lightweight, good tone, fun to dig into.

Seemed to be in good condition but i wasn't sure - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=290461158774 I will keep an eye out but there never seems to be many hollows on eBay!

  2.
Here's my Eastwood Classic 4 in action....
Where did you get your Eastwood from? It's pretty much what I want...don't suppose you would like to sell that to a poor student, gv'nor? :)

  3.
Look up the lakland website

    http://www.lakland.com/ac_hollowbody-tapped.htm

Have a listen to that not bad eh?
The neck pickup with flats and Jazz is exactly the tone I want! Just a shame the Lakland Hollow is £1000+ new. Do they ever come around used?

  4. I've heard nothing but good things about the Eastwood - Ed thinks it is great here and even owns one himself - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmSUjhcJaPo and AndyTheBassBison loves his http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=68710 :)

I wasn't a fan of the Ibanez Artcore, the body is too deep for my liking. I'm debating a Hofner Contemporay Club, espcially if I can get one second hand! This Epiphone Rivoli would have been ideal but out of the price range - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270620499798

    The search continues!

  5. You can get an excellent slap sound from a P, even with flatwounds mate. Take a look at this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5oSGkPUc_0 to see what I mean

Each time I watch it, it reminds me of how much I want a P. I owned a Classic Vibe Fiesta Red and that was sexy as hell. I did a review ages ago and it sounded awesome.

  6. I'm on the look out for a hollowbody bass, relatively inexpensive that is along the classic lines of a Gibson EB-2 or Guild Starfire. I've been hoping to grab a DeArmond Starfire as it fits the bill perfectly but I have not yet seen any for sale on eBay, this forum or anywhere else. Any thoughts where to find one?

Also any other suggestions? The Eastwood Classic 4 is another ideal option but they are £465 cheapest to buy in this country and they don't come around much for sale. The Epiphone Jack Casady is a little too expensive and doesn't have the neck pickup. I'm looking that thick chunky sound!

    Thoughts away folks :)

  7.
Totally OT sorry but I Funkin' love your white Stingray! I have said it before on another thread where it was OT but what the heck.Do you want to sell it me and keep your Ric?
Hey Pete, yeah you did point it out! The StingRay is sublime, I've never played another bass like it, the sound and the tone. Weights a ton! It's a Frankenbass with a Sabre neck, new black pickguard but original body and electronics. This is me playing it live here - http://www.facebook.com/v/10150207069750584 (check out the 'bass solo' at 1:32!) - despite crap acoustics and camera it cuts through like butter :)

EDIT - There is no way I'm selling it, ever! Two £1k+ basses though is excessive

Don't you have a kidney you can sell?
I have the feeling I will need my kidney when I'm a trained journalist and can't find a job :)

  9. Although I have toyed swapping and selling many times, circumstances mean it is time for my Rickenbacker to go. As my MA funding deadline approaches, I need to raise more cash and I can't keep something as extravagant as this :) The 4003, the classic-modern fusion of Rickenbacker's legendary bass. My bass was produced in August 2007 in the blue burst colour-of-the-year. It's rather light weight with a very P-esque neck, yet extremely playable. It's had a mixture of flat and wound rounds and has sounded great with both. For Jazz gigs, the neck pickup and flats are amazing but slap some rounds and it is ready to rock. Has been my main gigging bass for 18 months and as a result, has two small knocks on the headstock. But besides this, it's a beaut. I frequently get complements on how stunning the blue, while and chrome look together. The specifications are:

20 frets (33 1/4'' scale)

All original Rickenbacker parts, no modifications

Schaller Deluxe Machine Heads

Triangle fret inlays

Maple body with thru-neck

Mono and Rick-O-Sound Stereo Output
I have made up a little audio clip of the bass itself so you can hear how glorious it sounds. It has some flat wounds on at the moment. The clip below has clips of all the different settings on offer. You can find both pickups w/ fingers (0:00), Neck pickup w/ fingers (0:32), bridge pickup w/ fingers (1:13), both pickups w/ pick (1:55), bridge pickup w/ pick (2:33) and neck pickup w/ pick (3:05). You can also check me out playing the bass live on Enola Gay and our original Bayou Town.

I'm looking for around £1,150 (paid £1,500 in April 2009 from a lovely gentleman in Scotland). Shipping will be around £20 around the country, or pickup from North East of England. Any questions you know where I am

  10.
The guy's a legend.
Just been watching some of his videos Pete, he's a little special to say the least. The room decoration, the cheese-o-matic drum machine...a nice sane chap :)

  11. This may seem like a strange request folks but I was wondering if anyone has a fretless bass (preferably Jazz-ish) that I could borrow for a week to try out? I live in Gateshead so anywhere in the surrounding area...

I've played the Squier VMJ in Sounds Live a fair few times but I don't want to commit to buying one I'm sure it will get used and I will be able to learn to play it decently. I'd like to sit down and spent a good few hours trying it out and recording a few bits to see how I sound.

I'm happy to leave a deposit, contact details and eternal gratitude. Let me know if anyone can help :)
