Thanks guys, you are right! The MIJ are made for the export market, whereas the CIJ are the ones that they don't sell internationally because they would damage the MIA sales. Corrected the title, thanks for the spot. A rather nice play to play and listen to.

Afternoon bump!

Not happy at all to have to be selling this but I just can't afford to keep it. I sold my beloved Rickenbacker to fund my higher education in London and made a stupid mistake by purchasing this for an audition. It is a fantastic bass, one of the best Precision I've ever played but I just can't afford to keep it. My plan was to turn it into something similar to the Pino Palladino Custom Shop but alas, it is not to be.

It is a 2005-2006 Crafted in Japan Fender '62 reissue Precision Bass in Fiesta Red with white scratch plate. It has a few little scratches but nothing major at all. Serial number S029944. I purchased it from John Blackman of Far East Guitars on 3rd February and it has only been out of the house once.

Sound wise, it is fantastic. Deep, crisp and cuts through a mix like butter. Played it for several hours last weekend and the tone just keeps on coming and coming. Much fuller than the Squier CV I have owned in the past and easier to play than a USA Precision. Neck is glossy but not over the top.

I'd like to get back exactly what I paid John for it two weeks ago - [s]£550[/s] now [b]£500[/b] picked up from Central London or £570 shipped anywhere in the UK. Happy for cash on collection or bank transfer. I've got plenty of feedback from past sales, so I'm someone you can trust!

I'd prefer a pickup as it is easier but am happy either way. Comes with all original tags and paperwork, along with Fender gig bag. Questions? You know where I am!

I picked up my new '62 Fiesta Precision from John excellent - top bloke, very helpful and gave me a lift back to Epping tube station! Didn't see this one while I was there, but mine has been top so far!

I am starting to put together my own Precision Bass in the vein of the Pino Palladino Custom Shop '62 reissue, albeit it at a lower cost! It began with the Squier CV I owned last year that I loved but couldn't afford to keep, so I started from scratch.

My base (!) is a Fender '62 CIJ reissue in Fiesta Red, will post photos of it soon. My plans are to replace strings, change the pick guard with a tortoise-shell one, deck it out with chrome covers and potentially upgrade the pickup.

At the moment, it has awful rounds on it so that is the first thing to replace. I know that the Pino CS comes with TI flatwounds but I'm looking for something with a little more growl. I am really looking for the sound of Donald Duck Dunn on Blues Brothers album. The growl that he gets from his P is phenomenal and that's what I am looking for. A sound along the lines of this



What flatwounds could you recommend basing it on this? I know that example was a maple-neck but obviously mine is rosewood, will this make much of a difference?

That's a good plan! I went to the Bass Gallery yesterday in Camden and had a go of the Danelectro Longhorn reissue. I'm tempted to get one as a cheap bass I could carry around London. It had bucketloads of tone and if it get's lost, no harm done. But it would be great for just rocking up with.

Now to keep an eye on the for sale section!

I have just put down my holding deposit on my house share in Kentish Town (excellent location, decent price and fantastic place) for studying an MA in London next year. I'm very excited to be moving to London and notably I will have no money

I really want to get into regular live gigging now. I'm looking for something of people of a similar age (late-teens through 20s) and wondering where does one look for such opportunities? As I'm new to the area, I know no one or much about venues (minus the big ones).

My mate suggested either something blues or covers as it's usually regular work and relatively easy on the ability scale. For something my age though, it's more likely to be indie or rock based. Thoughts? I'd love to get into a Jazz Fusion band but I'm not sure I am there yet on the skill fact...

Not sure how much I'd agree with the pensioners playing In my opinion, the whole of Shine On is a pinnacle of human musical achievement. It moves me unlike another other piece I have ever heard. The feel, technique and skill is outstanding.

Waters' bass playing on records at least is ideal for the music. His tone is the classic pick-flats Precision tone. Have A Cigar is the best example from the top of my head!
