1. I've been buying and selling on here for a little while now so it occurred to me that i'd better get this up here!
2. Bought the Micro-POG off Adam and everything was swift, efficient and I was kept well updated. It arrived the next day after sending. Perfect! Cheers dude!
3. My punk band played at a small venue in London, the first band came on, no one watching except our band and a couple of their mates, that band immediately leaves. The organisers band come on, about 25 of their mates show up and promptly also leave, giving us an audience of about 5 people for our show. What the hell is wrong with people? I mean, who goes to a gig to just watch one band?
4. Reluctantly selling my EHX Micro-Pog to make way for the Nano-POG on my pedalboard! The pedal is in perfect working condition, has sub and upper octave and dry signal. Selling for £100 including postage! (Or trade for Nano-POG!)
5. Bought a Fender Blacktop Jazz Bass off Jon, he even dropped it off for me at no extra cost so thanks a lot Jon! It was in excellent condition. Very happy with the purchase! Ken
6. Just wondering, if someone is talking about whether a bassist or a piece of music they've recorded on, referring to it (or them) as 'chopsy' what they are talking about? Thanks!
7. Anyone know what it means to 'wind' neck or bridge pickups?
8. Hi! Got a song to learn for a little later next week, 'You got the Love' - Rufus & Chaka Khan - was just wondering what kind of effects might be on the bass in this song or what do to adjust to get this tone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERJSM5ZQSiU - the song in question (studio version) I play a westfield jazz copy, it gives a pretty clean sound so need to get that dirty sound that Bobby Watson gets on this one.. Thanks!
9.
DI: Acronym for Direct Injection or Direct Input - The practice or means of sending an instrument's output signal 'directly' to a PA mixing desk, recording input, etc., rather than sending the signal to one's amp and mic-ing the amp's output. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DI_unit Conversational example: 'The f***ing soundman shot 48v back up the DI line and borked my rig' EQ: Abbreviation for Equalisation - the practice or means of adjusting the frequency components of an audio signal. Examples of equalisation equipment: a graphic equaliser; 'bass' and 'treble' controls on a hi-fi; the 'tone' control on a radio. http://en.wikipedia....lization_(audio) Conversational example: 'The bass guitar sounds too high and zingy in the mix. Can we EQ it back a bit?' .
That's really helpful, thanks! What do you mean by 'rig' though? As the above post says, it would be great if there was some sort of book - who know's maybe there is? It would probably save me a few gormless blank looks! Nice to know i'm not the only one! http://www.soundonsound.com/information/Glossary.php - found this earlier it's fairly useful, dosn't have all the jargon though. Been spending around 2-3 hours researching graphic EQ and trying to understand my own EQ on my amp...
10. Ever read an article about music equipment and understand only a couple of words? When I read something about equipment it sounds like "something something blah blah EQ DI blah blah preamp post gain yada yada" - does anyone know of any good jargonbusting sites or articles for us music simpletons? Seems everyone has there own explanation of what means what and I was looking for something a bit more concrete to help understand the world of music equipment language . Thanks!
11. Thanks for all your feedback guys! Listening to the feedback and going on the information about scales and arpeggios and styles, the best thing would be to get out there and put what I already know into practise and not worry too much about who is better, or what people are thinking etc as enricogaletta rightly says. It's daunting at first, but hopefully with experience, the theory will take care of itself and feel a bit more natural.
12. I bought a 5 string in the summer to give me the option of playing more songa with a lower tuning without having to de-tune and I absolutley love it! It takes a bit of getting used to but it's a good investment. As the previous comments say, it gives you more options and a wider range of notes, especially if you're playing something in the key of Eb, or something jazzy.
13. Convergent, I try and get the technical stuff down first.
14. Hi, Just joined the site, glad to be here! I'm studying electric bass popular music peformance degree (1st year) and as part of our assesments, we have to perform some old blues songs, 1-4-5 progression, you know the one. When it actually comes to performing these songs in a band in front of 50 or something people (I have plenty of performing exp outside music school with play bass in a metal band), I suddenly forget everything I know about the scales and progressions and I sieze up and go inside my 'box' (just playing the root note, or a couple of notes) and making sure I don't make any mistakes. Does anyone else have this problem in any other styles of music and know how to confidently perform a good improvised bassline without it getting too dull, boring or repetetive? I see so many bassists play fluid improvised lines that sound great but when I do it it just seems to sound like a bit of a car crash! Thanks!
