1. I have no idea why but the problem is no more, put a set of flatwounds on and the issue didn't occur again.. Thanks for all the advice guys!
2.
This one you mean?? http://ibb.co/bTp3aa
I ended up editing the post as didnt want to boost unnecessarily!
3. I attached a photo but doesn't seem to have attached, will upload tomorrow!
4. PRICE DROP - £750! Bought late last year and is still in perfect condition only selling as I'd like just a single 1x12 (due to this I'm open to trades + cash -1x12 Vanderkley/Aguilar/Barefaced) https://ibb.co/bTp3aa Handmade by Marc Vanderkley, probably the best cabs on the market in my opinion, super tight mids, lots of power and super lightweight! I'm guessing most people considering the purchase will already know about these cabs but here's the specs from the website: Configuration: 2x12” Neodymium driver + 1" tweeter, variable tweeter control from 0 - 10. Power: 600 Watts RMS Impedance: 4 Ohms Freq. response: 45 Hz – 16 kHz Sensitivity: 102 dB 1W @ 1m Size: H x W x D, 77 x 54x 41cm Weight: 25 Kg / 55 lbs Price: £950 (export cost outside EU £791) Fitted cover: £50 Product link: http://www.vanderkle...abinets/212mnt/ Sorry I don't have more pictures at the moment but can send on request, based in Brighton.
5. I've always only ever done a couple of wraps and never had an issue. This is actually the second D string I've tried to use, I sent back a pack of Elixirs because I thought it was the street but now I'm thinking it must be something to do with my bass
6. I've been stringing basses for years and never came across this issue. The D string was super tense and wouldn't stay st the tuned tension, dropping a whole step when left for a minute. It literally just pops out of the tuning mechanism when you try to tune it to D. Any thoughts?
7.
Is this the original colour? I like it.
Yes I believe it is all standard! A lovely finish I know, I've only seen a similar one in red before which was just as nice!
8. Reluctantly moving on my Fender Jazz V! Lovely bass which is a dream to play, have just restrung the E-G strings with D'Addario pro steels, could have used a heavier gauge but that's probably just because I like big strings! Collection preferred however I can deliver at buyers cost. 9. I've got a Fender Tony Franklin signature which has a p bass pickup and a jazz by the bridge. I love the feel of the bass but the tone just feels a little thin, slightly too upper middy. Doesn't sound too great for slap either. Could anyone recommend some PJ pick ups? I've been looking at Aguilar but open to suggestions!
10.
A 5 string bass is just another bass with an extra string and a couple of extra notes. Put your 4 string basses away until the 5er becomes second nature.
Yeah I only keep that one out at the moment. Gonna finish this weeks gigs on my four then throw myself in on the five next week!
11.
When I started on 5s I found just playing a walking bass line over and over really helped, as instead of shifting up you can drop down without shifting hand position.
Yeah I've been hitting some walking lines just to remember I don't have to shift!
12. Just bought one of the Marcus Miller Sire V's (Couldn't recommend enough by the way) It's my first real push to play fives and other than the obvious just play it, I'm wondering if there are specific exercises or methods anybody used when adjusting to extra strings? Thanks
13.
Brighton is full of great musos. Shouldn't be hard to find one. One other point. Don't feel that every transcription that you do has to be complete. Sometimes, a few 'special' bars are enough to learn something important.
Yes a local jazz pianist has agreed to give me some lessons and he is very good. I never tend to finish a whole transcription unless I'm out to do a solo or head. I usually just pick the phrases that sound interesting or that sound like I would want them under my hands! Thanks guys
14.
If books are your thing, then this is good http://www.shermusic.com/1883217040.php
I do have that actually, I struggle with books sometimes. Always feels like a cold way to learn.. Needs must I suppose!
15. Well then I'm follow up, how do I get my harmony chops together!
16. I was going to take it to somebody to get set up (I'm not very good at these sorts of things and don't fancy ruining it..)
17. The problem is I like lighter gauge strings. I use D'Addario XL ProSteels 40-100. Ive never had the issue using these strings on my Jazz :/
