  7. Started life as a second hand Squier CV 5 string (natural finish). Lockdown respray, fender high mass bridge, gotoh machines, pearloid scratch plate and a set of Wilkinson replacement pickups later......
  8. Nothing for me in January this year (I play in three bands to varying degrees). Only got one in Feb as well currently, but it starts to pick up in March.
  9. Dancing on the ceiling - Lionel Richtea

  16. Yep - fully agree with what you're saying. However, for the level of bass playing I do, I don't need a full level of understanding of all the scales, sight reading etc. I'm just getting up, learning some songs and making folks happy (hopefully).....😉👍
  17. Completely understand you. My head doesn't learn best through formal teaching, more finding my own way until I get to where I need to be! As a result, I've no 'surplus' talent other than what I have learned to do, if that makes sense.....😆👍
  18. Very well put. I've never had a bass lesson, but found my own way through the instrument to play various styles of music in quite a few bands since the early 1990's. I'm always aware that there are many players who are far better than me, and I take inspiration from them. There are also those who are newer to the bass than I am, and offering encouragement and support is what I try to do. My mantra is that I'm good at what I need to do on the bass - I don't practice on my own for hours and hours, but play often with others to keep me learning and improving. Playing different styles of music keeps everything fresh and interesting - I'm currently learning a load of new folk rock songs, in a band with fiddle and accordian for the first time. While I'm enjoying playing, and other people enjoy listening then that's the most important thing.
  19. Great documentary on one of the best and my favourite bass players - first found out about him from his playing with Sky, then went back into his extensive earlier work. Documentaries like yours allow for such talents to remain accessible to newcomers and those who, like myself, are interested in the history of music and musicians and not just the music itself. Looking forward to seeing more of your work 😎👍
  20. Fade to Grey - Visage
  21. Yay - we've played the Anlaby Park a few times. Great crowd, but a bit of a bugger for parking if I remember! Fortunately we usually travelled light for those gigs so could park down the side and load in through the small room and into the main room at the back 😎👍
  22. Stormbringer - Deep Purple
  23. Haircut One Hundred - Fantastic Day
  24. Actually, the Paduak Red model looks remarkably similar to my Westone Thunder 3 that I'm in the process of moving on.......😎
  25. The neck on my self-build was from oak window ledges that nextdoor were chucking in the skip.ðŸĪŠðŸ‘
