1. Dinnae worry, I should have made the thread title clear. And it's about 8hours too far for me
2. Yeah, ridiculously cheap, even includes a wee practice amp.

4. I know this isn't the exact forum for this (sorry mods), but an elfin has popped up on the flea bay https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F142682038965 However I second others advice for trying something out if there's a decent shop nearby
5. Thanks for the advice Since I'd seen people report how good they are at responding on here, I emailed them straight away (after googling to see if anyone else had the same fault, which I couldn't find, and obviously checking basschat), but I Also won't be upset if they don't given how little I paid. Cheers Roddy
6. The chap is retiring from playing and was almost giving all of his stuff away. He was just after a token gesture. He certainly wasn't aware that the drive channel wasn't working, cause he was excited to demonstrate and was then surprised when the volume decreased rather than going crunchy. Hopefully it'll be an easy fix, although if not, I don't mind just using it clean. He sold it to me with the sole caveat that I play some jazz through it
7. picked this ashdown rig up from Gumtree yesterday for very little money. Felt like a gamble at the time, but is a cracking little rig, except that the input mix turns the volume off rather than the tube distortion on, so it hopefully just needs a new tube. Works alright for 69quid anyway
8. Lovely looking I can't stop watching it on eBay. Someone buy it before I get in (even more) trouble with the boss
9. Bought a warwick corvette standard 5 string from Alex. Great communication, was easy to deal with, bass was exactly as described and arrived very well packaged.
10.
Who was it that said "Early Christmas presents all round" early on in the thread? (Sorry for being lazy and not looking up the correct post).
That was me As far as the problems go, my j&d vintage 75 had taken a lot more work to get playable, having resorted to using two part filler on the nut, dressing the sharp end off the frets and lightly dressing the sixth fret on the g string , and it isn't sold as a "second " of any sort, but is recommended by many on here because if you know how to sort out the minor issues or can live with them (via higher action ) it's a great bass. Tweaking a truss rod isn't so taxing, especially in this modern age with forums like this and many online tutorials of how to set up a stringed instrument. Hope everyone is enjoying their bargain basses
11.
The buzz is all gone. It was only the truss rod that needed adjusting, which I found surprising, as it was near unplayable. Imagine a beginner receiving a bass in the condition mine was in. The action is a bit higher now, but OK. If this was a solid body bass with an easily adjustable bridge, I wouldn't probably try lowering the bridge a bit. However, I'm going to leave it as it's OK and I don't want to be playing around with an acoustic bridge. This bass really is a bargain now. Particularly since the stock strings were entirely usable, even though I'm not using them.
I'd expect It's the same for the non decor basses. I had to tighten my truss rod up by a full turn to get it to how I like it.
12. AT I am starting down the neck of mine from the nut end and there is a definite wiggle for want of a better word at the fourth fret, which doesn't cause any buzz on the fretted model, but can see how it would if I dropped the action any further. Be interested to see how you get on one you have swapped the strings and tweaked it a bit. I have the daddario black nylon on mine and am loving it
13. I got rid of my wee ashdown amp and play through a pair of cheap powered nearfield monitors via a BDI21, sounds ten times better than through the toy lookalike bass amp
14. Hehe I'm in agreement with you. Who said anything about damaging it?
15.
No, it isn't unfair. However neither do I consider it unfair returning the instrument if I decide I don't want it.
I'd be tempted to do it on the grounds of if there is any cosmetic damage, which renders it useless as a decoration, unless you wanted a tatty decoration. That's how I'd trick myself into not feeling guilty about returning it
16. Probably find the b stock one is in worse condition Good luck and look forward to hearing how you get on. Imagine an acoustic act consisting entirely of aging has beens and never weres all plugging away on decor basses, none even attempting the guitar pays to ensure long silences . I can't think of a more beautiful image
17. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/249657-sold-pending-the-usual-made-in-america-musicman-sub5-for-sale-l450/page__p__2609382#entry2609382 there we go i found the thread with the photos
18. You can buy plain black ones from Ernie ball uk (in the musicman spares bit ) , which is what I did a year or so ago I can't work out how to link to the images I have uploaded to the site, but I have done so if you can find them.
19. the first four photos show damage if you can see it, the others are for interest. i stuck a battery in it this morning and everything works including the tuner. it's a complete bargain, well, if you like that sort of thing. hopefully the nylon tapewounds will arrive today
20.
Nice one mate! Post some pics...
I'll post some pics in the morning of overview and close ups of the slight cosmetic blemishes etc. Buy buy buy Early Christmas presents all round
21.
I still have GAS for the Harley Benton Deko fretless acoustic. Can someone please buy it before I weaken further. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_b_35fl_nt_acoustic_bas_deko.htm
Buy it. There isn't just one of each as far as I'm aware, since the acoustic I bought is still available for the same price.
22.
What's the acoustic like? Is it salvageable as a playable instrument?
I'll try and get some decent closeup photos of the acoustic if they are of any interest. i haven't had any chance to check the whether the pickups, built in tuner/eq etc. work, but the bass itself is boomingly loud and was easy to tweak the truss rod to improve the action and make it really easy to play.
I've never played one but they look fantastic...
it is lovely and is great fun. i still can't really believe what you can get for the money. the J&D did require a fair bit of adjustment after receiving it to get it playing well and to sort the intonation, but the acoustic didn't even need the truss rod adjusted really, i just wanted a tiny bit less relief.
23. There is only minor cosmetic damage. The bass is perfect for playing. Awesome for 44 squid
