1.
You cannot damage a cab or amp by under powering either and you will only run the risk of getting a less than perfect sound and causing damage if you are running either flat out. Makes sense, so I could hook up a cab if its rated at 800w to my 350w? Cheers The amp will see the speakers evenly. 2 8 ohm cabs will look like 1 4 ohm cab to the amp and it will send the same signal to both. If you are running an amp flat out, IMO you need a more powerful amp. I usually run my amps between 11 o'clock and 12 o'clock on both volume controls and I aim to have more rated watts in the cabs than the amp.
2. Not necessarily more power but just the option of adding say a 1x15 in at a later date just to give a bit more bottom end should I want it. Just didn't want to buy one 4ohm then want to add at a later date.
3.
If the amp only has one speaker output and you get an 8 ohm cab with the intention to add another 8 ohm cab you'll need to daisy chain the cabs. Make sure the cabs have 2 speakers sockets in them. If you are getting a 410 then I'd just get a 4 ohm cab. If you need any more than 350 watts into a 410 you’re looking a more powerful amp, IMO. 4.
Ωs wise, that's what I'd do (& I do do too). Your amp will put out up to 350 watts at 4Ω or @ 200 at 8Ω. As for the cab, it depends. Try it. If you don't like it, you can always sell it on.
Good call, and thanks that makes sense.
5. Apologies for re opening an old thread again. Im a newbie to heads and cabs so just to clarify it wouldn't matter if I had a 300w head driving a 300w or a 1000w cab it wouldn't damage it or be detrimental to the sound in anyway? Also what has been baffling me is how is the power distributed when you daisy chain 2 8ohm cabs together to run at the amps 4ohm recommendation. In other words how is the wattage distributed between the two cabs?
6. Hi all, Another newbie to cabs and heads as I was previously a combo man. I've just made a purchase off of a Trace AH350SMX head off of a top guy who is a member on this forum. Its an early 90s one with only one speaker output on it (350w at 4ohm). If I was to get a 4x10 (800w at 8ohm) would this be a suitable match and then I can add a second 8ohm cab at a later date if I do so wish. This impedance stuff is frying my brain. :/ Many thanks.
7. So I should look for a 2x10 8ohm to start with? That sounds pretty sensible. Thornybank you say you have some for sale?
8. Thankyou Tony, 2x10, 4x10, 1x15? Any recommendations on best set up?
9. Will it work with just one 8 ohm cab for the time being until I get the cash to buy a second? Sorry don't quite understand impedances etc... Any good recommendations off anyone for which cab to go for? Would sooner stick to TE.
10. Hi im looking for a new live rig. Will this run two cabs as Iupdate my rig? Sorry for newb question only ever owned combos.
