The pdf that @Chiliwailer provided shows the screw is a  'SCREW SMA 5 X 5/8 OHP NI" but I'll be jiggered if I can find a UK equivalent

    Contacted Fender?

£8 is a bit silly for a screw (ooh er Mrs), but I think it’s the same as the string tree screw on the diagram IIRC, so Fender GBI/UK may have one?

Not many of those around , I don’t think I’ve ever seen a first year one in the flesh

Back in around 2004 an all original blond 61 stack knob was for sale in a shop I worked in. I thought it was by far the nicest vintage bass I’d played, and it started me off buying pre-cbs, albeit starting with a ‘64 refin Jazz. It sold for £10k.

Then in about 2007 it came to a specialist vintage shop I was at, and again it was still the best vintage bass I’d played (IMO) felt unique and sounded huge for a Jazz. It then sold for £18k to an ex rock star that collects vintage blond Fenders - but it was then just sat in a case doing nothing ☹️

  3. Blurb from La Bella…

As the innovators of the Black and White Nylon Tape Wound bass set, La Bella introduces the Copper White Nylon Tape Wound Series. Unlike the classic White Nylon Tape Wounds, the new Copper White Nylon Tape Wound strings are made with a transparent nylon wrapped over copper underlays. The result is a warmer and more supple tone, while still allowing players to effortlessly glide from note to note.

The Copper White Nylon Series is extremely versatile and can be used for electric, fretless and acoustic basses. If you're looking for a set of bass strings that growl like a beast, this warmer alternative is for you!

White Nylon Tape Wound on Copper Underlay

Warmer, more supple tone vs. classic White Nylon Tape strings

    Light Tension

    String Gauges: .050, .065, .085, .105

    Made in the USA

Packaged using MAP Technology (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) to prevent tarnishing and ensure freshness

All standard bass sets are LONG scale length. The 1st (G), 2nd (D), 3rd (A) strings are 38” from ball-end to silk/taper. The 4th (E) string is 36 ¾” from ball-end to silk/taper. Only the silk portion of the string should be cut or else the string will break.

  4. Yeah, had this last week sending a bass with them. I called them at 6pm the day it was due to be delivered, they put out a chase on it and that seemed to sort it out as the tracking hasn’t been properly updated. Arrived a day late though.

    That bass is stunning!

    Thanks… but was stunning… 😂

Previous owner had started a relic job on the left side, I bought it for a crazy bargain and then stripped the paint and turned it into a natural. The faded sonic blue was great though, I just couldn’t live with the dodgy relic.

Hope you will find a buyer here in the UK. I recently sold a Stingray Timmy C to a buyer in the US. Well, the local depot here in the UK wanted to know if I had a CITES license. I could convince them that there was no need for one. I also had to send them the commercial invoices again as they somehow had managed to lose them. I only found out about the "missing" commercial invoices after checking the tracking info online where it said that they were waiting for the forms and that they had contacted the seller (i.e., me). Well, they obviously did not contact me and I had to chase them up.

Then the US counterparts asked me to fill in a toxic substance control act declaration (TSCA, I guess because of the fretboard glue!), a manufacturer's affidavit (actually this should have been filled in by EBMM but I put in the info myself and I also attached the original invoice from EBMM. Interestingly, after some googling I found out that a manufacturers affidavit is normally used for shipments over $10,000.00. Well, the Timmy C is a great bass but not not THAT expensive ; -), and a foreign shipper declaration. The buyer was also asked to fill in an import declaration and a TSCA form (importer single entry). Looks like these checks came into place as the bass returned to the US where is was made and because the value was above $2500. All in all a lot of hassle, costing me time and energy. So, in short, my advice to you - if someone from the US wants to buy one of your bass that was made in the US (like your Old Smoothie) and that is worth more than $2500 (yours would be slightly below that threshold but I am not sure if shipping costs are part of the value, which could potentially get you over the threshold), then kindly decline it (unless you don't mind filling in several forms and spending lots of time emailing custom officials and people working in depots ; -).

    Ouch! 👍

  7. Outstanding pre-amp, sounds  like a 2 band Ray when the Mid is centred, and then gives you sweepable Mid control when engaged. Adjustable Mid sweep range too.  Also has very useful Bright boost similar to a Sabre, for extra clarity, engaged by pulling up the treble knob.

These are £190 new when VAT is included at checkout, saying that as John doesn’t include VAT on his web page prices.

It’s had home use only. My set up has changed so this is no longer needed as I’ve gone back to basics and am controlling Mids elsewhere now, but it’s in perfect working order and the Mid sweep would be great for adjusting on different stages for people playing live or finding your Mid sweet spot.

It uses screws to attach the wires, though bass ground wire just needs attaching to the green one on the pre amps jack socket.

This is the no control plate included version, through the plate John sells doesn’t fit USA Rays I believe.

    Comes with original box.
