Good one, never thought of that.

Regarding the Schaller thing, considering the price of an MIA you would have thought they would have included straplocks especially as the buttons don't work with 'ordinary' straps - Warwick do.

Well, I've just got my nice minty fresh US 2007 Precision (courtesy of OHM) and one question I gotta ask - are the strap buttons meant to hold - Seriously!?

They look like the lockers on my Warwick and nothing at all like proper strap buttons like on my old (and departed) MIM Jazz and current MM Sterling.

If I have to do a swap out for lockers what do you suggest - I'd prefer not to do any drilling (the dunlops I got for my MM would have needed this and I didn't want to tempt fate so I went out and bought a nice Levys tight strap instead).

Sterling's are truly beautiful in every way.....this one is no exception.

Very pleased with the Precision OHM, seems to weigh only about half what my Sterling does - brilliant.

Recommended for any bass related transactions is OHM,

Strange as it sounds I prefer the sound of my WW (Thumb) passive, I find it too much of a beast with the active in (the 60's/70's band I'm in doesn't play much Mudvayne). OTOH I don't think the active on an MM Sterling is too obtrusive (but then how would I know I can't switch it out?). I've just picked up a US precision so I'll be giving the old (proper) passive a run for its money again.

+1 on your comments. I had a '57 P JV 1982, Large Fender + small 'Squier series'. The later ones were Large Squier.

After playing bass for some 20+ years and having no where near enough talent to justify that time I've just bought my first black fender P off a fellow Basschatter. 20+ years since I had a Precision of any kind - can't wait! Enjoy!

It all adds to the spice of life. I usually go with 'throw a few more random notes in and they'll think I meant it'

Because of this sort of thing, the last few buy's and sell's I've done have been done through this forum - somehow feels more comfortable. Worked out the other night that it would take us all a few years to own each others basses/rigs even if we don't get any new members!

Don't know if this is any help but a few years ago I had a similar problem with a purchase out of the US with Computer equipment. Tho cosmetically adequate the hardware was none functional but it took a couple of weeks to ascertain this. The company involved also invoked a 'time limited' return policy which it hadn't stated when I was purchasing, in fact there was no way I could qualify as the delivery period was beyond the 'limitation'.
The company got abusive when I got 'testy' and entered silent mode. I was lucky enough to get a US solicitor who was employed in the US by the company I worked for at the time to get involved - it was amazing how quickly my funds were refunded. Is this something you might have access to?

Alternatively how did you make the purchase (sorry I haven't read the whole thread and I'm in the middle of typing), Mastercard/Visa will normally intervene if you make a convincing case.

If a bass was represented to me as 9+/superb I would expect it to be BOTH functionally and cosmetically 9+ not just pretty paintwork - you are not in the wrong.

If none of the above works damning the B*****D on Talkbass etc might be worth considering - see if he is prepared to shell out on lawyers.

Yup, I had a '82 P bass '57 re-issue just like that. Strap button on the back of the headstock and one piece pick guard. Wish I hadn't sold it....sob

Why Argh..............I keep finding myself gassing for a Status and would like to keep my money in the bank. A persuasive argument would help.

On the Warwick thing though - hate the balance (Thumb), neck dive and weight but gotta love the sound - made me persevere.

Pretty much been said....I swapped from 'Ray to Sterling last year and, while I occasionally hanker after the 'Ray, I don't regret the change. Plenty of tone variation, the neck is one of the fastest in the business and the balance is great. Can still get 'down and dirty' - not like a Thumb or a 2 band Ray but good enough, plus it has a bit more flexibility than the other 2.

Don't worry about the colour, you want black with a black pickguard, all you need to think about is RW or maple neck.

Yup the black plate has it....................just need an unlined black Status graphite fretless neck to go on it and you could go into 'stealth mode'

+1 on that. Love my Thumb BO4. My Sterling doesn't get out so often because it somehow takes more effort to sound 'good'. Wouldn't sell it tho' because the Warwick is so distinctive in it's sound that it won't work on everything.

The Hofner deserves serious respect.

They are so sweet, I'd be scared to play em.
