Pm replied to Rich.
Mike, based just outside Rotherham, Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire. -
For this weekend only I'll do this for £580 cash on collection. After this point I think it'll have to stay with me.
-
Thanks K,
never miss the lines tho, side dots are just fine. -
Cheers DJ, so am I - couldn't get near this price when I was looking for one.
Mart - it is open to trade offers -
+1.
Jim keeps his gear in great condition - deal with confidence. -
I'll give this another couple of bumps then I think I'll rest it to give way to some of the other Stingray Traffic
-
No problem S, hope you find what you're looking for.
I'm getting close to 2000 views which I think is about my record, I estimate that is about 20% of the BC population. -
Hi S,
the neck profile is pretty much like a modern US Fender P - about 1.625" at the nut. Back to front is slim again like a modern P bass.
The Sterling pretty much has a Jazz profile neck but differs from the standard Ray 4H in terms of body size and electronics.
Cheers, Mart -
Cheers W. Yea, I think there's a positive glut of MM's for sale at the mo which is depressing the market a little - that coupled with a Fretless MM being something of a niche instrument. I've got a few gigs coming up and if the money from those hits my pocket before this sells I'm seriously considering spending some cash on this to turn it into my perfect fretless - it goes against the grain to even considering selling a proper US made Ray for less than £600. The reason this is still up for sale is I thought it would be cheaper to sell and buy something else (a Sterling F'less would be nice) than spend on this - in the current market I think I would have to drop the price of this to a point where that aint the case.

Still here in all it's Ash based woodiness. Can't promise it'll make you sound like Pino but it'll do it's best.
-
Cheers guys, beginning to get the feeling that this ain't the time to sell a MM.
Still, I shall flagellate this post mortem equine beast for a little longer before putting away and waiting for better times... -
Weekend bump. Still amazingly pretty and still a rare bargain at £600.
-
Looks like that might have to be the case W, some interest shown but all overseas with difficult logistics.

Cheers W,
there doesn't seem to be much of a market at the moment. Still, no worries, I only need it for the odd number so it's no hardship to hang onto. -
Hi W. As you probably know modern Rays have an oiled natural finish to the back of the neck. To make this one a little smoother it's been rubbed down with plastic wool and treated with TruOil (as recommended by EB). Doesn't look any different to before - just feels a little less dry.
If this worries a prospective 'buyer' just pm me - happy to provide photos, but really doesn't look any different to before. Feels pretty much like my old 2005 fretted Ray felt now, just finding that for fretless I prefer a satin/gloss neck. Any concerns - always happy for a visit and play. Might even throw in a cup o (Yorkshire) tea. -

I owned a 57RI JV - 1982, bought from new. Sold it like a pillock. However would I accord it massive status over say a standard US 2008+ model - well no. It was nicely made, good attention to detail but the sound it made didn't make me have an epiphany. Would I like it back - yes. Would I pay £750 for it - probably not.
And if not, and if it's as good as you say, stick with it if only for the financial investment, it is not a good time to sell.
I'll certainly agree with this Chris. Think I'd have to drop the price of my Fretless Ray to £500 before it went.....ain't gonna happen.
Clarky, glad you've decided to give it another go mate. -
Well I've had this back for a couple of days. The ding has been touched up, not perfect but much better (no pictures - sorry). The neck has been rubbed down and re-oiled and feels better but unfortunately it's still not doing it for me (think I'm happier with Jazz/Sterling profile necks on Fretless - strangely I'm the opposite with fretted) so I'm putting this back up for the last price I quoted - £650.
Still interested in trade options (4 string fretless only). I'm having a couple of days at the seaside so it may take me a day or two to respond to pms - but I will respond, honest...
Guitarist Tries To Play Bass
Yep, I've heard "which is easier, guitar or bass?" to which I always reply the same thing, which is my honest opinion. "Bass is easier to get to a standard you could play in a band but as you progress it's harder to play the same thing on a bass than it would be a guitar." Or words to that effect.
Pretty much what I say to beginners. Generally if you want to get out and participative the bass is a good instrument for this, but there can be a significant 'while' moving from 'roots' to structured 'runs'.
