Had a guitarist turn up at an audition once with his guitar in a hard case. For some reason he was the type that locked it with those little keys. Problem was he forgot the keys and thus his guitar was locked inside. A rather amusing 20 mins while we all watched him taking the hinges off the back of the case with a screwdriver one of us had lent him.

Thought bad news was very funny.
Also liked dirty movie and the famous five send ups from the comic strip -
I've always wanted to cover the damned version of Eloise but it's a bit hard in a 3 piece

Good on you. I do these all the time singing solo with my acoustic. Believe me they may not show it but they are so grateful for musicians going in to do this sort of thing.
I remember doing one a few years ago and the nurses wheeled out a man in his twenties in his bed and he watched me from the back of the room with his head propped up by pillows. He cried all the way through my singing and isn't wasn't until afterwards I found out he used to be a singer but had a motorbike accident which had left him paralysed. Really upset me but still makes me count my blessings -

I like lots of \stones stuff, but Paint it, Black is dreadful. A mess of a song with no purpose. But then, it's pretty popular so what do I know?

I thought that about paint it black too till we started covering it. Now it's one of our most popular songs and I love playing it. I think it sounds better live than hearing a studio version of it. -
Good coverage on the late BBC news last night. More than I was expecting so just shows what a legend he is.

It's the only time I ever go on basschat. -
If we are looking at it from a bass players point of view (as it's a bass player forum ) then it has to be hair metal. I can't even hear the bass in most death metal songs I've heard
-
Cool...thanks guys.
Yes I've seen footage of him playing over the neck with his P bass. Very similar technique to Noel Redding from JHE who also had a great tone.
I'm only playing a JHS Vintage P Bass with flats so may look at upgrading that or at least the pups. -
In the new year I want to try and develop my tone more and thinking of picking up some new gear if need be.
If I had to pick my ideal bass tone then it would be Geezer Butlers from the first couple of Sabbath albums. Evil Woman being the perfect song where the bass to me is as good as it gets.
Im hopeless at recognising how to achieve a tone so are there any Geezer fans out there who can tell me what he did to get that amazing sound.
Bass / amp / EQ / strings / technique ?
Thanks in advance -
A very merry Christmas and a prosperous new year to you all. Thanks for all the very interesting and informative threads this year and just for balance based on some posts so far in this thread....I am going to get drunk most nights

Now sold via ebay

Selling my brand new Behringer BVT4500H bass amp. Bought this a few weeks ago from Thomann for £90 and only used at home once to make sure it worked which is does. In immaculate condition.
I am asking £50.00 for it.
This is a 450w amp and sounds lovely through my cabs. I bought this as a back up to my main amp but although it is a great amp it is heavy and i have back problems hence why i am going to part with it. We gig every week so don't want to keep lifting it in and out of car.
Will post pics later but there is not a single mark on it anywhere.
Collect from near Wolverhampton or could possibly meet up somewhere in West mids. -
I have been listening to eiter FM or digital radio for a long time now. Recently i heard some old medium wave radio and could not believe how poor the sound used to be.
-
Active peavey eurosys1 monitors are quite common on ebay for 20 quid upwards depending on condition. Very loud

Cant beat acdc for those about to rock. When it speeds up and cannons going off. Totally over the top but classic acdc. Just wish id seen them do it live!

I thought the OP meant openings to albums? If so then although not popular on here i think U2s streets have no name opening the joshua tree is great.
If we are just doing songs then my fav is she sells sanctuary. Over played but still a classic riff which gets better when drums and bass kick in -

Hey fella, well, I use a cheap-but-effective method: Behringer 1U headphone amp in rack, I take a feed from the desk into that and a feed from the amp (I can then combine these and mix myself higher or lower into the general mix), and after some unsuccessful wireless shenanigans I had OBBM make me a lead which combined the normal lead with a 3.5mm socket/jack, so I plug my in-ears into the socket at my end of the lead. You can obviously spend an awful lot more than the £100 or so I spent on this setup (secondhand headphone amp), but for me it works fine. I use ACS Pro custom moulds.

I quite like the idea of running a combined cable for your guitar and and then plugging ear buds in. One question though, if you are only doing this just to hear some vocals would a pair of just cheap in ear headphones like you get with a mobile not suffice? -
Maybe they are playing a shorter set. People would moan if the band finished early so having a longer break inbetween makes the night seem longer

I found the perfect cure for GAS........sod all money and a terrible credit rating. Works for me

We do every other year and this year is our year off. I should be looking forward to it but the wife dosent like going out so I will be at home.
Think i may pretend i have a gig where all backline and bass is provided so i get a pass out. Just need to think of a way of getting £200 in my back pocket for when i get home -
Just popped in there and picked up a second hand hartke LH500 for £119. Its immaculate and i get 6 months warranty so think this is a good price.
I already have one which gives me the tone i want so this is a nice backup. I bought a behringer BVT4500h as my back up a few weeks ago brand new but its just too bulky so going to move it on now.
Gigging bassists... how many basses do you own?
in General Discussion

Approx 20 gigs per year
2 basses. 1 P and 1 J both taken to gigs but P bass gets used the most.
I would like more but I'm skint and have a very unsupportive wife
