Ah, there was the encouragement, thanks mate! :-) Yeah I know what you mean with the thumb line. I just need to fins my correct angles there. They say you may struggle and struggle and then you just get it and bam, you start to pick up things so easily for a while. My bam will come too, some day in the future :-) I keep my bass quite high, straight wrists, using the shoulder strap to hold it alone, hands are just used to play. Doesn't look heavy metal... but in all honesty, I am not very heavy metal. Thanks! / Swede

Hi! Thanks for replying, it greatly appreciated. I have been trying the exercise with your response in mind and I believe I need to find some different angles. My fingers (especially pinky) are quite short. If I move the thumb any lower I can only reach the G-string now without bending the wrist ;-) I did notice quite a bit off difference in my finger movement depending on where I put the thumb in relation to the hand, while still on the imagined line you mentioned. I will just keep it up for a while and figure it out. And I will remember to stay relaxed. Thanks! / Swede

Hi guys! I need some tips or encouragement here.... Innuendo you say? Yes... possibly so. Got your attention though, so it worked To the question. I am stuck practicing with my fretting hand. It's an exercise that I found here [url="http://www.studybass.com/lessons/bass-technique/the-flying-fingers-problem/exercises/"]http://www.studybass.com/lessons/bass-technique/the-flying-fingers-problem/exercises/[/url] . My problem with the exercise is twofold: 1. I find it just about impossible to actually keep the pinky finger fretting its note on the G-string while fretting other notes on the D-string with the other fingers. Yes... keeping a note while fretting others, it's an exercise, not a song :-) 2. When I play the continuous ringing note with another finger and fret the D-string with my pinky I have a heck of a time not unintentionally mute the G-string trying to reach over it. Do you guys think these are problems I will overcome or do you have suggestions on something else I should try? Anyone with similar experience from starting the bass? Thanks! / Swede

So, today it was time to replace the Fender G-Dec guitar amp that I have been plonking bass through. Yes, I know.... I am truly sorry it is a small guitar amp... yes.... yes I AM a little ashamed of it. However, I headed down to the music store to see if I could find an EBS Session 60. I couldn't, they had a 120 demonstrator there and it sounded reaaally good compared to other apartment friendly practise amps. And apartment friendly practise amp is what I want... I tested a much cheaper store brand 35W amp as well. Did not at all sound as good but.... in exchange for ordering a Session 60 they let me borrow that until it arrives, just so I have something to play with. That is not bad service that. Also, I am not actually forced to buy the 60, it will sell anyway. Now I will just have to wait until April sometime before it arrives and then decide if I can find something better. I might want the 120 instead.... it felt quite good for me.... I have read some old posts here comparing the two. Are there any new opinions on it? Experience? Are they still good after a couple of years? Please let me hear what you think about the 60 and the 120, what you feel they can be used for; practise alone or with band, gigs etc. Thanks! / Swede -

Bert, I hate to be picky but Pistorius is the South African amputee runner. Pastorius was the Floridan bass genius with bi-polar disorder. :-) I read your comment on another introduction message about doing things slowly and doing them right. I will take that to my heart and I have heard it from other sources as well. It also fits with my philosophy, if you do it fast but wrong, did you really do it at all? / Håkan - Gothenburg, along the E6 towards Oslo

Hei hei Traktorn! It's funny I always think of Swedish and Norweigan as being very close as languages, but I can't write a proper sentence in Norweigan, so... anglais. I first bought the Attitude used, but it turned out to have a huge personality and be a bit more difficult to handle than I had hoped for, hence the Squier. We can say I have been playing for about a week with a properly working bass, so I'm not quite ready to pick up the mantle after Pastorius just yet.... I think the EBS will be great, and not desperately expensive either. Thanks for making me feel welcome and cared for :-) Where in Norway is Sögne anyway? Risingson, thanks man. Hi everyone! I'm new to the site, I'm new to the bass. Can't say I played anything else either, except CDs of course. Why did I pick the bass then? Because it is an instrument greatly responsible for the drive and feel of the music, the life if you will. Because it's an instrument that no everyone plays and because I can fit my thick fingers much more easily than on a guitar :-) When it comes to playing I consider my self an absolute newbie, and one with no more than average talent. I don't want to lock myself in on one specific musical style, but I want to learn at least the basics of it all. In addition I am a natural born gear head. So why haven't I bought an excellent bass with an EBS Fafner II and huge/loud cab with it? Well, as I mention I am a newbie and I couldn't at this point really motivate that, not even to myself. Planning an EBS Classic Session 60 though instead of the small embarrassing guitar amp I am hooked up to now. Off to teach my left hand what the right hand is doing. Cheers! / The Swede
