1.
The Basschat Marketplace? Or ebay. I got mine for £200 posted, with a flightcase too.
Hmm. Do either of those suggestions include places to buy them new? That's what the post was asking (and I'm interested too...) :-)
2. I've got a Bubinga/Wenge Corvette 5. I like it - perfect intonation, no buzz, and as for the B string it's fine where I use it, i.e. below the 5th fret. However, I did try a 4 string MIA Jazz and I want one. It was much easier to play well. I think the Warwick is a good tool, but it's not necessarily intuitive. Maybe I'm just no good at 5 stringers!
3. Also, knowing where you're based, whether you will post, for how much, etc.

Hello!

Sounds like you'll fit right in. Welcome! :-)

Morning
Morning, complete newbie, bot a Tangelwood rebel 4 starter pack and some books. Trying to learn a new skill at 38 is not easy! Any top tips, must haves etc...???? Peachy
Morning and welcome! I recommend this book unless you've already got too many. It includes about 1,000 (seriously!) basslines from all genres, both as tab and notes, and was a really good tutor for me.
6. So, that's the brochure text. What have you been using it for, and how did it work out? Looks pretty good on paper. What were you using it with?
7. Thanks for all the replies so far - keep 'em coming! You've reminded me that I've got the rackmount Behringer Pod-clone, so I'll have a play with that again. When I have tested it previously on bass, listening through studio monitors, I didn't like the way it smoothed off the attack on each note, but it was pretty subtle. I expect I wouldn't be able to hear it via the bass cabs.
8. OK, I'm not having much luck searching. Is there a list anywhere of all currently available bass preamps? I have a good power amp and cabs, but I'm looking for a preamp that isn't a pedal. So far, I've found the Warwick (and Hellborg), BBE, Aguilar, Tech21, Rocktron (available? not sure), Pod, but.... there must be something else out there. Ideally I want something with an effect send/ret, onboard compressor, onboard EQ, input level meters, balanced outputs, and I'm not interested in overdrive or distortion channels. Help!
9. Here's my MXR Super Comp pedal for sale. It's in perfect condition as you can see from the pics, but I haven't got the box or manual any more. If you want the manual PDF, it's here I'm in Northampton if you want to collect. I'll take Paypal or cheque. I haven't (yet) got my own feedback thread here, but I've bought equipment off petetexas and Gareth Hughes in the last couple of weeks, so I'm sure they wouldn't mind giving a reference. Any questions, please PM me. Thanks, Maine

11. Gareth sold me an EBS Multicomp. Very pleasant to deal with and quick delivery even from over the water! Highly recommended. Maine.

OBBM

I ordered a couple of Speakon>Jack cables from Dave one evening, and they were despatched the following day. Good cables, good price, and a decent chap who also diligently ensured I was biwiring my setup correctly. Turns out he's a friend of a friend as well, so all the better! Highly recommended. Maine
13. I bought a couple of cabs off petetexas today, and it was all a very fine experience :-) Good honest chap, good price, and only 20 miles from my house. The latter, of course, might not be applicable to you! Maine.
14.
The scale length is the length from the nut to the bridge, but you can save some aggro by measuring from the nut to the 12th fret and doubling that figure.
Lovely, good tip thanks! 2 x 17" = 34" for me then. You're right, I was wondering about where exactly to measure at the bridge end.
15. This has probably been covered, but I couldn't find it in a search. How does one determine the scale length of a bass? Where should it be measured? I have a Warwick Corvette 5, and I'm unsure if it's 34" or 35". Thanks, Maine
16. Replying to the original post, I don't want to seem lazy but I happened to tell my "how did I learn" story in my introduction first post a week or 2 ago. So to save space in this thread, just have a look here :-) Maine
17. Welcome! I'm new too, but watch out for the classifieds.... I've already bought a pedal and a couple of cabs in a week! Maine
18.
Hi, They are yours ! They are vinyl, and I work in Daventry, during the day, so maybe pickup from there would be better. Pete
Thanks Pete, that's better for me. I used to go there to buy bike bits at Leisure Lakes, so I know the way! I'll PM you my phone number.
19. Hi, Have you got any pics? Are they carpet or vinyl covered? I'm in Northants so could collect quite easily. Edit. If they're vinyl or tolex (not carpet), I'll have 'em. Cheers, Maine
20. Same here... I tried a couple of Vintage Modifieds in Swindon today, but they were spoiled by far too much fret buzz. It was impossible to get a clean note anywhere on the neck. Hopefully that was a one-off shop with bad setups.
Have you looked at Behringer's Xenyx range? I have their little 502 for home use and find it quiet, solid, intuitive, and reliable.
I'd add - don't buy a Behringer without feeling one up first.... the faders they use are often such short throw, it's sometimes impossible to get the level you want.
22. I went into PMT Northampton today and tried a US Jazz for the first time. And wow, I really liked it! It was the first time I've done a direct comparison of a P and a J, and I definitely prefer the Jazz. Has anyone got the new 2008 Standard yet? If I'm going to buy one of these I would rather hold out for the newest one, if only 'cos I like the colour of the blue/grey solid one :-)
23. Pics? Model? Year? Version? Colour? etc. If not, £10 delivered :-)

MXR Super Comp

As per title really - does anyone use an MXR Super Comp with bass? If so, a quick rundown of its pros and cons would be much appreciated :-)
