.not sure about British early 70's jazz funk, not sure it had made the jump over the atlantic at that point.. you could try some very early Incognito... beggar and co. light of the world...as for american 70's jazz funk Billy Cobham does it for me.. another bassist that is imo one of smokin hot gospel bassists that posts on you tube.. unknown, to most people im guessing..? i bet you dale can teach you a little something now with his 2 5 1 chord lesson..his groove at 7.20 imo makes Sharay Reed look slack, if thats possible..
NICE! But Victor is hardly an unknown, no?
thats not Victor Bailey dude.. wrong color his bass is a Victor Bailey Fender Jazz signature.. think his name is Ton Jardin.. imo a perfect example of a great unknown youtube bassist.. as far as i know he has no record deal.. or does not play for a band that has such

im thinking of upgrading my 75 ri jazz... i like the sound of this bass but i was thinking about putting in some Lindy Fralins and a preamp of some kind, to give it some serious punch.., the obvious ones i guess are the east or the audere.. are there any others.. i had a glockenklang pre in another bass and loved it but not sure i want to route this bass... i would really like to switch from active to passive, and also a very clean active sound the fralins are the pickup i want, but preamp wise are there any other options.?

how do you know its for no purpose..? i find it hard to understand your lack of foresight being the bassist that you are, although im sure your not talking about some of the pro guys who do tutorials, but even so, dont knock em
I can't help feeling that a lot of this is Sport rather than music but I am also aware that the standard of these players in terms of core skills is a lot higher than it was in the past and that should be applauded. Aspiring to make a mark on youtube is pretty tragic, IMO, and playing other people's stuff ('bass covers' I think they call them) is a really odd way to spend your time. I am aware, however, that this is like as not a generational thing and I, as a nearly 50 year old, am going to have a different perspective on the issue than 'the kids'. And that is as it should be. Better that they do this than smoke crack in a urine soaked stair well, I say
with all due respect.. i think your missing the point... do you not want to make your mark musically, be live, recorded etc..? these bass covers are sometimes a great and expressive way of learning the songs and showing what you can do... do you not do this live or recorded.? im wondering if the music you make gets to more people than the bass players on youtube.? ive never done a youtube vid , and play original bass lines, but ive learned alot from learning other peoples music maybe some of these guys spend a huge amount of time on youtube, but im sure alot of the really entertaining bass players spend most of there time practicing bass.. we all know on youtube, there are younger generation that post, shall we say, bass playing that needs a bit of work, but there is some great stuff also. to call these people tragic and express your views about 'bass covers' is imo looking down your nose at other musicians... its all a bit of fun and should be seen as such imo.. sorry to come across as abrupt

how could i possibly disagree when you post Sharay Reed.. just awsome groove

to say Marcus Miller plays the same old boring stuff is a little short sighted imo.. he does some amazing work with various artists... if you dont like his solo work thats cool, but to say hes playing the same old routine is wrong.. i love Tims playing, im sure that Tim would have alot more respect for Marcus Miller than comes across in your post Visog..
