1. I played the first chord in that sequence - Dm7 - a few times and all I could think of was Girl from Ipanema. I'm ill
 2.
I've taken this question out of another thread. Here's something I don't understand. People often talk about increasing string tension by using through body stringing. Here's my thought process: If you take a string the tone produced is set by tension between fixed 'contact points', the bridge saddle and the nut. The 'stretchiness' or tension of an individual string is set by how springy it is in terms of how much it elongates when a force is applied. i.e. if there were no stretch in a string and it was rigidly mounted it would be bar taut and wouldn't work. Given that the longer the string is between it's fixed points (not contact points) then the more it stretches for the same amount of force applied (due to a greater length of string subject to the forces that produces stretch), which makes through body stringing lead to floppier lower tension strings. Well that's my logic anyway. Am I correct and therefore everyone who says it increases string tension is wrong, or am I having a flawed reasoning process? Peter
You are right.... they are wrong. If you stretch a string between two points in order to achieve a certain tuning then the bits on either side of the fixed points make stuff-all difference to the tension or anything much else. What I think people might be thinking/hearing is that the string (which is attached to the vibrating bit after all) is rather more 'attached' (in some sense) to the wooden bit. That is - it just might sound a bit different.
 3.
I, however, am a grumpy, stubborn clot.
Oh, don't get me wrong.... I'm just like that too. However, I'm still right and they are all wrong. Mmm... I should have been a woman!!
 4. Last ditch stand bump.... just decided to sell the house and buy that country mansion (well maybe not) so going to be in headless chicken mode for a while
 5. I'm trying to play open strings more. I always used to avoid them but now I realise it's a whole bunch of new sounds I didn't know I had. The only trouble is that I'm actually having to relearn some stuff to do it.
 6.
Blob dude I feel your pain. But dont get yourself down. You may be a second rate bass player but you can play a five string. I`m a second rate bass player who plays a four string and I only use three of em! Mabye we should start a support group. Jez
It was only because I was too stupid to know any better and I started with a five string!!
 7.
Me neither, sorry if I made you feel that way though.
Just having a bad day In the middle of putting my house up for sale too, so ......STRESS.....
 8.
No, I guess thats the sad thing about trying to stay open minded and avoiding cynicism, huh?
I feel like I've just been chastised - but I can't quite see what for........
 9.
What if everyone above learned second instruments and formed your own band? What if we did a thread of Basschatters who play second instruments AND are looking for a band?
Lot to drink last night? .......I hope!!
 10. Mmm...... I think I may have been overly ambitious describing myself as "second rate"
 11.
This is the daddy
I'm not sure why but there's a little bit of irony that this guy plays a completely vanilla four string fender with a pick! It just goes to show.....
 12.
Ouch! I only have to drive for about 10 minuets for my time to be wasted though TBH I have sod all better to do!
Doing sod all would have been a better thing to do
 13. I wouldn't care but by the time I have loaded up the car and all that stuff... it's about one hour each way and I've got better things to do quite frankly. Grrrrr
 14. Turned up to practice tonight after a one month hiatus due to the drummer "doing other things". Didn't get very far - drummer who clearly didn't want to be there then finds he has "lost" some of his stands and won't / can't play. Meanwhile, I finally learn a song that the guitarist has been hassling me to learn for months and he says "oh, that's good, but I don't actually know it myself". We have no gigs lined up until next year and nobody seems to care enough to go and find any. Sigh! Anybody need a second rate bass player
 15.
As I don't use chords in my band I read rather than contributed to this thread but I'm a bit gutted no one took you up on your offer as I really enjoyed messing about with your chords, so, please, if you've any more Major I'd love to see them. Thanks Les
I still haven't got the first lot under my fingers yet but I'm getting there :-) I'd certainly appreciate some more for when I get to that point!
 16. Sudden flurry of PMs all replied to. A couple of very interesting propositions too although I'm not sure the offer-I-can't refuse has come along yet. If it makes any difference, I am (due to new ridiculous mortgage coming around the corner) trying to downsize everything a bit. I also have a TRB4ii (blue) and a G&L Tribute L2500 (blueburst) to throw into the mix if someone fancies a combination. No cash sales at the moment as the lawyer would get the money not me Still looking for something "proper" and (almost certainly) 5 string.
 17.
Come on guys, your posts are next to each other in the listings!! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=64532
Yep - seen it. Really struggling with the sideboard-esque finish. Just doesn't say StingRay to me It would be a good idea in all other respects. I am in Manchester quite a lot.
 18.
Would you consider a Yamaha TRB5p? It's a lovely bass, originally bought from Gwilym here. It's been in the rainy day cupboard for a year or so... There are a few pictures of it in this thread... although I think I may have had the DT shakes that day. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11755&hl=trb5p If you're interested I have several better photos I can email over Willl
PM'd
 19.
I like those pics. PM sent
PM's replied. Thanks for the interest.... still thinking/looking if any more interest
 20. I can feel the regret starting already.... I normally make my own cables... but.... who/what are OBMM cables? BTW... you were doing well using proper speaker cables. If I had a pound for everybody I've seen plugging their cab in with a signal cable --- I'd have about a fiver
 21.
......interesting alas.... i have nothing 5 stringy!
It's not like you..... I thought you had *everything*
 22. There's somebody on here selling an Overwater 5 string for a very reasonable amount. Not sure if it is still for sale but that's 19mm spacing. Another vote for the TRB5. Do note that doesn't include the TRB1005 which has rather narrower spacing (but still not silly narrow).
 23.
I don't have a 5 string but I'll look after it for you rather than having it sit in a cupboard :brow:
Let me think..... err...... no!
 24. Couple of rubbish pictures added to give you the idea. Any interest at all? Going back in the cupboard for a rainy day at this rate
